A Study on the Edge Extraction and Segmentation of Range Images (거리 영상의 에지 추출 및 영역화에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we investigate edge extraction and segmentation of range images. We first discuss problems that arise in the conventional region-based segmentation methods and edge-based ones using principal curvatures, then we propose an edge-based algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, we extract edge contours by using the Gaussian filter and directional derivatives, and segment a range image based on extracted edge contours, Also we present the problem that arises in the conventional thresholding, then we propose a new threshold selection method. To solve the problem that local maxima of the first- and second- order derivatives gather near step edges, we first find closed roof edge contours, fill the step edge region, and finally thin edge boundaries. Computer simulations with several range images show that the proposed method yields better performance than the conventional one.

Effects of Puffing treatments on the Sensory Qualities improving of Ginseng Extract (팽화처리가 인삼Extract의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of puffing treatments on the sensory qualities improving of Ginseng Extract were investigated in the good products for rejecting soil flavor as Ginseng foreign bad taste, through chemical analysis and actual manufacturing practice, the following results were obtained. Puffing treated<15kg / ㎠psi> ginseng has produced a marked increase in soluble solid, crude saponin yield to the extent of 10% and without soil taste as compared with control Ginseng. Optimum Ginseng ethanol extraction condition were 90$\^{C}$ for 8 hours, which was cheap operating cost and color, apperance, total solid yield of Ginseng extracted products. For 70% ethanol extraction in temperature range of 60∼90$\^{C}$ for 8 hours, the higher temperature resulted higher yields in solids and Ginsenoside Especially, GinsenosideRgl as most effective physiological function component yield was increased in 18% by puffed Ginseng than control Cinseng products. The Hunter's color, L. a and b values of Ginseng extract were 31.09, 21.9 and 49.5 and increase brown and red color value and total Δ Evalue.

  • This study proposes an analysis of the Word2vec-based machine learning classifiers for the sake of opinion mining tasks. As a bench-marking method, BOW (Bag-of-Words) was adopted. On the basis of utilizing the Word2vec and BOW as feature extraction methods, we applied Laptop and Restaurant dataset to LR, DT, SVM, RF classifiers. The results showed that the Word2vec feature extraction yields more improved performance.

Sensory Characteristics of Granular Tea and the Components of Mulberry Fruit Extracts by Different Extraction Process (오디의 추출 공정에 따른 성분 변화 및 분말 과립차의 관능 특성)

  • In the present work, mulberry fruit extracts by four extraction processes, namely wet pressing extraction (WPE), hot-water extraction (HWE), enzymatic hydrolysis (EH), and lactic-acid bacteria fermentation (LBF) by Lactobacillus plantarum TO-2100, were analyzed for nutrients and functional compounds. The sugar contents of extracts by WPE, HWE, EH, and LBF were 12.0, 10.9, 14.5, and 14.3 brix, respectively, and the extraction yields by EH and LBF were 1.65 and 1.50 times higher than those by WPE. Among the organic acids, tartaric acid and malic acid contents were the highest in the extracts by WPE. Acetic acid was best extracted by LBF, and citric acid was best extracted by EH. Lactic acid was detected only in LBF. The extracts by EH showed the highest contents of all vitamins with an exception that the extracts by LBF showed the highest contents of the folic acid, vitamin B12, and vitamin C. We also noted that vitamin B group was not detected in the extracts by LBF. The extracts by EH showed the highest contents of all the amino acids, whereas LBF showed the lowest. Polyphenol contents of extracts by EH and LBF were 3.05 and 2.51 times more than those by WPE respectively. Anthocyanin contents were 7.66, 7.14 times higher for EH and LBF compare to WPE. We manufactured mulberry fruit granular teas with different compositions and tested them for their sensory characteristics. We found that 15% mulberry fruit extracts by enzymatic hydrolysis and 85% dextrin composition gave the most satisfactory result.

Application of Solvent Extraction to the Treatment of Industrial Wastes

  • There are several steps such as slicing, lapping, chemical etching and mechanical polishing in the silicon wafer production process. The chemical etching step is necessary to remove damaged layer caused In the slicing and lapping steps. The typical etching liquor is the acid mixture comprising nitric acid, acetic acid and hydrofluoric acid. At present, the waste acid is treated by a neutralization method with a high alkali cost and balky solid residue. A solvent extraction method is applicable to separate and recover each acid. Acetic acid is first separated from the waste liquor using 2-ethlyhexyl alcohols as an extractant. Then, nitric acid is recovered using TBP(Tri-butyl phosphate) as an extractant. Finally hydrofluoric acid is separated with the TBP solvent extraction. The expected recovered acids in this process are 2㏖/l acetic acid, 6㏖/1 nitric acid and 6㏖/l hydrofluoric acid. The yields of this process are almost 100% for acetic acid and nitric acid. On the other hand, it is important to recover and reuse the metal values contained in various industrial wastes in a viewpoint of environmental preservation. Most of industrial products are made through the processes to separate impurities in raw materials, solid and liquid wastes being necessarily discharged as industrial wastes. Chemical methods such as solvent extraction, ion exchange and membrane, and physical methods such as heavy media separation, magnetic separation and electrostatic separation are considered as the methods for separation and recovery of the metal values from the wastes. Some examples of the application of solvent extraction to the treatment of wastes such as Ni-Co alloy scrap, Sm-Co alloy scrap, fly ash and flue dust, and liquid wastes such as plating solution, the rinse solution, etching solution and pickling solution are introduced.

Enzyme-assisted extraction of Ecklonia cava fermented with Lactobacillus brevis and isolation of an anti-inflammatory polysaccharide

  • Fermentation and enzyme-assisted extraction (EAE) improve nutritional and functional properties of foods by increasing the extraction of active compounds, ingestion rates, and body absorption. In this study, we investigated whether applying the EAE process improves the extraction and isolation efficiency of a polysaccharide from fermented Ecklonia cava (FE), which inhibited NO production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated RAW 264.7 cells. The results showed that the FE using the fungi Candida utilis and two different bacteria, namely Lactobacillus brevis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae increased protein and carbohydrate contents in comparison with those in non-fermented E. cava (NE). Aqueous extracts of fermented E. cava increased extraction yields and carbohydrate content, compared with the aqueous extract of NE. In addition, treating LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells with aqueous extracts resulted in reduced NO production compared to that in LPS-treated cells. Ten EAEs of L. brevis-fermented E. cava (LFE) improved NO inhibitory effects in LPS-activated RAW 264.7 cells and the Viscozyme extract (VLFE) from the resulting extracts showed the highest NO inhibitory effect. We found that the >30 kDa fraction of VLFE led to markedly high inhibition of LPS-induced NO production as compared to that in the <30 kDa fraction. The crude polysaccharide isolated from >30 kDa fraction (VLFEP) consisted of fucose and markedly decreased NO production induced by LPS stimulation. VLFEP could be useful as an anti-inflammatory agent to suppress macrophage activation.

Changes in Chemical Composition of Korean Red Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) Extract With Alcohol Extraction

  • We extracted red ginseng with various alcohol concentrations and evaluated total carbohydrate, uronic acid, polyphenols compounds and ginsenoside contents, and yields of alcohol extract. The water extraction (0% alcohol extraction) showed a high level of total carbohydrate content. 10% and 20% alcohol extraction showed the highest uronic acid contents (7,978.8 and $7,872.7\;{\mu}g/mL$ of extract, respectively). The efficiency order of the red ginseng extract (RGE) preparations in liberating polyphenols was: $0{\sim}50%$ alcohol${\geq}\;60%$ alcohol> $70{\sim}90%$ alcohol. Solid contents in RGE were decreased with increased alcohol concentration; the same tendency as with the results of total carbohydrate content. Total ginsenoside contents in $20{\sim}50%$ alcohol extracts showed similar levels ($442,962.9{\sim}47,930.8\;{\mu}g/mL$ of extract). Water extraction showed the lowest ginsenoside content ($14,509.4\;{\mu}g/mL$ of extract). The ginsenoside contents at above 60% alcohol were decreased with increased alcohol concentration. Generally, ginsenoside (Rg2, Rg1, Rf, Re, Rd, Rb2, Rc and Rb1) contents were increased with increased alcohol concentrations. However, Rg3 content was decreased with increases in alcohol concentration.

Inhibition of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Nitric Oxide (NO) by Gelidium elegans Using Alternative Drying and Extraction Conditions in 3T3-L1 and RAW 264.7 Cells

  • Gelidium (G.) elegans is a red alga inhabiting intertidal areas of North East Asia. We examined anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects of G. elegans, depending on drying and extraction conditions, by determining reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) in 3T3-L1 and RAW 264.7 cells. Extraction yields of samples using hot air drying (HD) and far-infrared ray drying (FID) were significantly higher than those using natural air drying (ND). The 70% ethanol extracts showed the highest total phenol and flavonoid contents compared to other extracts (0, 30, and 50% ethanol) under tested drying conditions. The scavenging activity on 2,2-diphenyl- 1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and nitrite correlated with total phenol or flavonoid content in the extracts. The greatest DPPH scavenging effect was observed in 70% ethanol extract from FID and HD conditions. The production of ROS and NO in 3T3-L1 and macrophage cells greatly decreased with the 70% ethanol extraction derived from FID. This study suggests that 70% ethanol extraction of G. elegans dried by FID is the most optimal condition to obtain efficiently antioxidant compounds of G. elegans.

Isolation of Solanesol from Korean Native Tobacco (한국산 재래종 잎담배중의 Solanesol의 분리)

  • Solanesol has been isolated from aged Korean native tobacco leaf(Hyangcho and Sohyang) by water pretreatment, hexane extraction and column chromatography on Florisil in yields of 0.41% and 0.31% dry wt., respectively. Thin-layer densitometric analysis of the hexane extracts of samples(Hyangcho Sohyang) has shown that the amounts of solanesol present are 0.74% and 0.52% dry wt., respectively.

An Efficient Video Retrieval Algorithm Using Luminance Projection

  • An effective video indexing is required to manipulate large video databases. Most algorithms for video indexing have been commonly used histograms, edges, or motion features. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm using the luminance projection for video retrieval. To effectively index the video sequences and to reduce the computational complexity, we use the key frames extracted by the cumulative measure, and compare the set of key frames using the modified Hausdorff distance. Experimental results show that the proposed video indexing and video retrieval algorithm yields the higher accuracy and performance than the conventional algorithm.
