Copper is one of the non-ferrous metals used in the electrical/electronic manufacturing industries due to its superior properties particularly the high conductivity and less resistivity. The effluent generated from the surface finishing process of these industries contains higher copper content which gets discharged in to water bodies directly or indirectly. This causes severe environmental pollution and also results in loss of an important valuable metal. To overcome this issue, continuous R & D activities are going on across the globe in adsorption area with the purpose of finding an efficient, low cost and ecofriendly adsorbent. In view of the above, present investigation was made to compare the performance of a plant root (Datura root powder) as a bio-adsorbent to that of the synthetic one (Tulsion T-42) for copper adsorption from such effluent. Experiments were carried out in batch studies to optimize parameters such as adsorbent dose, contact time, pH, feed concentration, etc. Results of the batch experiments indicate that 0.2 g of Datura root powder and 0.1 g of Tulsion T-42 showed 95% copper adsorption from an initial feed/solution of 100 ppm Cu at pH 4 in contact time of 15 and 30 min, respectively. Adsorption data for both the adsorbents were fitted well to the Freundlich isotherm. Experimental results were also validated with the kinetic model, which showed that the adsorption of copper followed pseudo-second order rate expression for the both adsorbents. Overall result demonstrates that the bio-adsorbent tested has a potential applicability for metal recovery from the waste solutions/effluents of metal finishing units. In view of the requirements of commercial viability and minimal environmental damage there from, Datura root powder being an effective material for metal uptake, may prove to be a feasible adsorbent for copper recovery after the necessary scale-up studies.

Early childhood caries which mainly affect maxillary anterior area, defined as 'the presence of 1 or more decayed, missing, or filled tooth surfaces in any primary tooth in a child 71 months of age or younger'. Extraction of teeth when early childhood caries affected in maxillary primary incisors often develops progressively, result in severe destruction of crowns, acute or chronic pulpitis, and periapical abscess formation. Maxillary primary incisors are need to preserve as possible, because the early loss of maxillary primary incisors may lead to various functional, esthetical, and psychological problems. It is necessary to the availability of an easy to perform technique capable of providing efficient, durable, functional, and esthetic restorative methods. Polyethylene fiber-reinforced post can be used in strengthen of composite resins that is esthetic and good physical and mechanical properties. $Ribbond^{(R)}$ is made from an polyethylene fiber, has numerous usages, its surface is treated to enhance adhesion to resins, ease of manipulation, relatively cost effective. We report this case, had restored of maxillary primary incisors with severe coronal destruction due to affecting severe early childhood caries, using polyethylene fiber-reinforced posts, composite resin cores, and celluloid crowns. We could obtain good result of treatment.
This study was carried out to develop a method of removing unnecessary sugars and high-molecular weight soluble components from water extract by using various highly porous polymer resins: these resins are widely used as adsorbents for polyphenolic compounds. Each anthocyanin-rich fraction (ARF) that was eluted from column packed with 4 different resins (SEPABEADS SP207, 700, 850 and Diaion HP 20) was obtained from an aqueous extract of the ripe fruits of Rubus coreanus, which is well-known in Korea as "Bok-bun-ja". Among the above mentioned resins, Diaion HP20 had the highest efficacy and provided maximum yield of the ARF. The ARF eluted from the column packed with HP 20 exhibited the strongest antioxidant activity in vitro. Bioactive phytochemicals extracted from Rubus coreanus were investigated using the on-line HPLC-$ABTS^{{\cdot}+}$ system, and the resulting 6 peaks were identified as radical-scavenging components. By using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, 5 peaks were obtained, and these were identified as cyanidin-3-sambubioside, cyanidin-3-glucoside, cyanidin-3-xylosylrutinoside, cyanidin-3-rutinoside and pelargonidin-3-rutinoside. These results indicate that the use of appropriate porous resin (Diaion HP 20) leads to an increase in the yield of bioactive components and enhancement of their biological properties.

To recover phosphorus from incinerated sewage sludge ash(ISSA), ISSA were extracted with sulfuric acid solution, and the optimal phosphorus recovery conditions were experimented by comparing the recovered phosphorus contents and heavy metals by raising pH. Also the phosphorus recovery efficiency was compared when acid extract was reused or classified by particle size of ISSA. The optimal conditions for recovering phosphorus from ISSA were 1N sulfuric acid solution with an L/S ratio of 10, and an extraction time of 30 minutes. Considering the addition of alkali substances and the content of heavy metals in the recovered sediment, it is concluded to recover phosphorus under pH 5. Reuse of the ISSA extract increased the recovery rate of phosphorus by 14~21% depending on the reuse rate (100 and 50%), but it also increased zinc contents to 33 and 21%, and copper contents to 35 and 20%, respectively. The experiment of ISSA divided into four sections by particle size showed that there was no distinct advantage of phosphorous recovery by classification of certain particle size of ISSA. The removal of heavy metals from extracts through EDTA and cation exchange resin showed no definite effect.
Phytoestrogens are biologically active compounds derived from plants foods. It had been suggested that phytoestrogens, by inhibiting aromatase in peripheral and/or cancer cells and lowering estrogen levels, may play a protective role as antipromotional compounds during growth of estrogen-dependent cancers. Therefore, simultaneous analysis of estrogens and phytoestrogens is necessary to elucidate the possible involvement of phytoestrogens in estrogen metabolism. In this view, we developed a simple and reproducible procedure to quantitatively determine estrogen and phytoestrogen metabolites. The proposed method consisted of solid phase extraction using preconditioned Serdolit AD-2 resin, enzyme hydrolysis with ${\beta}$-glucuronidase/arylsulfatase from Helix pomatia, liquid-liquid extraction and TMS-ether derivatization. And the final determination was carried out by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) in selected ion monitoring mode (SIM). The precision and accuracy of this method was evaluated through within-a-day and day-to-day test. Recovery range and detection limit were 71.96~105.66%, 2~4 ng/mL, respectively. Using this method, 17 estrogen and 5 phytoestrogen compositions in urine of normal subjects were analyzed. It was found that amounts and relative distribution of urinary phytoestrigens and estrogens showed different pattern in male and female subjects.

A study has been carried out on the extraction chromatographic separation of fission products from spent pressurized water reactor (PWR) fuels for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometric analysis. Impregnation capacity of tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP), which is well known as an extractant in the field of uranium separation from various nuclear grade materials, on Amberlite XAD polymeric macroporous support materials was measured. Amberlite XAD-16 of which the surface area is the highest was selected as a support material because its TBP impregnation capacity was the largest in Amberlite XADs. Sorption behaviour of this TBP impregnated resin was investigated for the fission product elements using acidic solutions simulated for dissolver solutions of spent PWR fuels. The parameters affecting the performance of the separation system were optimized. The fission product elements studied excluding Pd and Ru were quantitatively recovered with the precision of less than 3.1%.

A number of techniques may be employed to reduce the discomfort of syringe or needle for dental care. The use of topical anesthesia is one such method. Topical anesthetics are applied to alleviate pain during many clinical procedures, such as injection of local infiltration anesthetics, primary tooth extraction, X-ray taking of sensitive patients, reducing gag reflex prior to impression taking. In children, placement of a rubber dam clamp, however, may cause significant discomfort for purpose of pit and fissure sealant and preventive resin restoration(PRR). A topical anesthetic would be beneficial to aid in rubber dam placement for this purpose. It has been suggested that all intra-oral topical anesthetics are equally effective on reflected mucosa, however EMLA(an acronym for eutectic mixture of local anesthetics), which was developed in the 1980s and produces surface anesthesia of skin, has been shown to be more effective than conventional topical anesthetics when used on attached gingivae. This report is topical anesthesized 4 case by EMLA cream, who showed better effect in reducing the pain of infiltration anesthesia, extraction of deciduous teeth, rubber dam clamp placement and reducing the pain of preformed crown adaptation.
A suitable method of sample treatments to minimize the analytical interferences was presented in order to determine bisphenols [bisphenol F (BPF), bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol F diglycidyl ether (BFDGE), and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE)] in various canned beverages coated with epoxy resin by the reversephase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) equipped with a fluorescence detector and the gas chromatography with mass selective detection. The recovery test of bisphenols was performed using 1, 5, and 10 ${\mu}g/L$ bisphenols spiked beverages with the combined technique of the solid-phase extraction (SPE) and the liquid-phase extraction (LPE). Both BPA and BADGE showed quite adequate resolutions in HPLC-chromatograms. The recoveries of BPA obtained by LPE with diethyl ether were higher than those obtaind with methylene chloride on coffee, shikhye and fruit juice. For cola and tea, the recoveries of BPA obtaind by SPE were higher than those by LPE with diethyl ether. The recoveries of BADGE were less than those of BPA for all beverage samples treated by either SPE or LPE method. In survey of bisphenols for eighteen commercial canned beverage samples, BPA contents of coffee, cola, tea, shikhye, and fruit juice were in the range of $1.3{\sim}11.6,\;0.5{\sim}0.9,\;1.0{\sim}1.3,\;2.4{\sim}7.9$, and $3.0{\sim}3.4\;{\mu}g/L$, respectively, but there was no detection of BPA in beer sample.

Aplastic anemia (AA) is a blood dyscrasia characterized by hypocelluar bone marrow and peripheral blood pancytopenia. Symptomatology depends on the severity of pancytopenia. Patients with AA are susceptible to infection because of agranulocytosis. Hemorrhage caused by thrombocytopenia can be fetal to these patients. Therefore dental procedure potentially can cause serious complications and should be applied with caution. A 6-year-old boy with moderate aplastic anemia was referred to treat dental caries. General dental procedure including resin filling, preformed crown, pulpectomy and extraction was performed under sedation. Combination of modalities such as platelet transfusion, oral hygiene instruction, and dental prophylaxis was also implemented. In this report, the dental and medical management of a patient with AA was presented. Interdisciplinary care should be administered to patients with AA.
For about half a century. dental implants made of titanium have developed as a method of restoration for the tooth loss. In these days. the titanium implants seem to be considered as the alternative for the conventional prosthodontics. But its hard to say that the titanium implants are superior to the treatments that preserve the natural tooth. As this is a general opinion among dentists. the implant will not be able to be the alternative for all the prosthetic treatments. Clinically, there are many causes for extracting tooth. The severe destruction of the tooth structure or periodontal diseases leads to inevitable tooth extraction. When the complete cure is doubtful because of narrow intraoral visibility and improper accessibility in approaching to the tooth and periodontal lesion, we. clinicians often inevitably extract tooth. Passive treatments like conventional restoration, curettage or surgical flap cant be the perfect treatments for the tooth that has subgingival root caries or severe periodontal diseases involved furcation. Many clinicians might have been forced to pull out the relatively healthy tooth by the difficulties of approaching to the lesions and poor prognosis. Though the intentional tooth replantation is performed sometimes. as it doesnt have enough scientific foundation. it has not been considered as a popular treatment method yet. I have been felt keenly the necessity of positive tooth preservation, so I have been attempting the treatment that has new concept. calling Natural Tooth Implantation (NTI) clinically. NTI differs from the tooth replantation in the goal for the treatment and biological healing process. Now. I confirm that NT! is a very positive and valid method of tooth preservation. Like you can get from the name. NTI is the dental implant procedure using natural teeth and similar to the healing process of the titanium implants in many aspects. I have been using biocompatible composite resin. DRM. with NTI and got affirmative clinical results from that. So I would like to introduce.roduce.
