  • A fast cell contour extraction method using CUDA parallel processing technique is presented. The cell contour extraction is one of important processes to analyze cell information in pathology. However, conventional sequential contour extraction methods are slow for a huge high-resolution medical image, so they are not adequate to use in the field. We developed a parallel morphology operation algorithm to extract cell contour more quickly. The algorithm can create an inner contour and fail to extract the contour from the concave part of the cell. We solved these problems by subdividing the contour extraction process into four steps: morphology operation, labeling, positioning and contour extraction. Experimental results show that the proposed method is four times faster than the conventional one.

  • Solvent extraction, soxhlet method, and supercritical fluid extracion were considered, respectively, as the method of choice for the recovery of DHA from lyophilized Thraustochitrium sp., and the results of corresponding extraction were compared. Supercritical fluid extraction seems to be the most appropriate process with respect to time, process simplicity, and extractant intoxicity.

  • This paper presents the design of a layout processing system that performs circuit and symbolic extraction from hierarchical designs containing arbitrarily shaped layout. The system is flexible enough to deal with various technologies, MOS or bipolar, by providing extraction rules in the form of technology files. In this paper, new efficient algorithms for trapezoidal decomposition of polygon and symbolic path extraction using trapezoidal template are proposed for symbolic extraction. Circuit and symbolic extractor is developed as an integrated design environment of SOLID system.

  • Lane extraction is basically required for a driving car to understand its external road environments via a camera. In this paper, a lane extraction method using "Sobel Intensity Profile" is described. The Sobel intensity profile is obtained using only vertical edge components of Sobel edge outputs, and used to yield fitted lines for lanes. The RANAC algorithm is applied to fit lines using only inliers. Experimental results have shown the reliability of the proposed lane extraction method.

  • Counters for the various kinds of bank notes require high-speed distinctive point extraction and recognition for notes. In this paper we propose a new point extraction and recognition algorithm for bank notes. For distinctive point extraction we use a coordinate data extraction method from specific parts of a bank note representing the same color. The recognition algorithm uses a back-propagation neural network that has coordinate data input. The proposed algorithm is designed to minimize recognition time.

  • In this Paper, we propose an optimal feature extraction for multiclass problems through proper choice of initial feature vectors. Although numerous feature extraction algorithms have been proposed, those algorithms are not optimal for multiclass problems. Recently, an optimal feature extraction algorithm for multiclass problems has been proposed, which provides a better performance than the conventional feature extraction algorithms. In this paper, we improve the algorithm by choosing good initial feature vectors. As a result, the searching time is significantly reduced. The chance to be stuck in a local minimum is also reduced.

  • When the soil vapor extraction as a remediation method of contaminated soil and groundwater has been used, the effects of curtain wall, mode of pump operation were examined by numerical simulation. Consequently, it was found that the removal rate was enhanced in case that the curtain wall was established around the extraction well with the extraction pumps operated alternatively. It was because that the removal of high density gas around the extraction well was possible.

  • Ginseng leaf/stem extract produced by subcritical water extraction at high temperature ($190^{\circ}C$) posses higher cytotoxic activity against human cancer cell lines than ethanol extract. Subcritical water extraction can be a great candidate for extraction of functional substance from ginseng leaves/stems.

  • In this paper, we propose the iris feature extraction by using statistical methods. There are many approaches for iris feature extraction, but most of them require a set of parameters that one should choose for the transformation to obtain a useful representation of the iris. It would be most useful to estimate the method of the iris feature extraction from iris itself. Therefore, we apply the unsupervised statistical methods for the iris feature extraction.

  • A simple apparatus for adding a modifying solvent to supercritical CO2 extractant was described. Small, fixed volumes (typically 100 μL) of liquid modifying solvents were delivered during the extraction process by use of an in-line high pressure loop injector and an air pump. Without disconnecting the extraction cell from the supercritical fluid extraction system, the modifying solvent was repeatedly delivered. The solvent modification device was optimized during the extraction of carbaryl and bis(acetylacetonato) copper(Ⅱ). Extraction recoveries from spiked filter paper and soil samples ranged between 22% and 109%, depending on the analyte and matrix components. The addition of polar modifying solvents were necessary to improve the extractability of the nonpolar CO2.
