  • The efficiency and quality of the social reference sites are being challenged because a large quantity of the questions have not been answered or satisfied for quite a long time. Main goal of this study is to investigate important factors that affect the performance of question triage to relevant answerers in the context of social reference. To achieve the goal, expert finding techniques were used to construct an automated question triage approach to resolve this problem. Furthermore, important factors affecting triage decisions in digital reference were first examined, and extended them to the social reference setting by investigating important factors affecting the performance of automated question triage in the social reference setting. The study was conducted using question-answer pairs collected from Ask Metafilter. For the evaluation, logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine which factors would significantly affect the performance of predicting relevant answerers to questions. The results of the current study have important implications for research and practice in automated question triage for social reference. Furthermore, the results will offer insights into designing user-participatory digital reference systems.

  • Single-chain variable fragments of antibodies (scFv) specific to 2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT) were isolated from a phage library displaying synthetic human scFv fragments with 6 diversified complementary determining regions (CDRs). A DNT derivative that contained an extended amine group was synthesized and conjugated to the NHS-group that was linked to magnetic beads. Phages specific to the immobilized DNT derivatives were isolated from the library after 4 rounds of sequential binding and elution processes. The displayed scFv fragments from the isolated phages showed consensus CDR sequences. One DNT-specific scFv was expressed in E. coli and purified using Ni-affinity chromatography. The purified DNT-specific scFv binds specifically to the immobilized DNT-derivative with $K_D$ value of $6.0{\times}10^{-7}$ M. The scFv and DNT interaction was not disrupted by the addition of 4-nitrotoluene or benzoic acid. These data demonstrate that the screened scFv from the phage displayed library could be used for selective and sensitive detection of explosives such as TNT.

  • To determine the prevalence and genotypes of $\beta$-lactamases among clones of a metagenomic library from the cold-seep sediments of Edison seamount (10,000 years old), we performed pulse-field gel electrophoresis, antibiotic susceptibility testing, pI determination, and DNA sequencing analysis. Among the 8,823 clones of the library, thirty clones produced $\beta$-lactamases and had high levels of genetic diversity. Consistent with minimum inhibitory concentration patterns, we found that five ($167\%$) of thirty clones produced an extended-spectrum $\beta$-lactamase. 837- and 259-bp fragments specific to bla$_{TEM}$ genes were amplified, as determined by banding patterns of PCR amplification with designed primers. TEM1 was the most prevalent $\beta$-lactamase and conferred resistance to ampicillin, piperacillin, and cephalothin. TEM-116 had a spectrum that was extended to ceftazidime, cefotaxime, and aztreonam. The resistance levels conferred by the pre-antibiotic era alleles of TEM-type $\beta$-lactamases were essentially the same as the resistance levels conferred by the TEM-type alleles which had been isolated from clinically resistant strains of bacteria of the antibiotic era. Our first report on TEM-type $\beta$-lactamases of the pre-antibiotic era indicates that TEM-type $\beta$-lactamases paint a picture in which most of the diversity of the enzymes may not be the result of recent evolution, but that of ancient evolution.

  • As archivists are professional who is responsible for professional works related in archives, they are required to perform expanded roles including traditional roles in changed environment surrounding archives. To solve those requirements, reeducation program can be essential for improving archivists expertise. However, as compared with education quality and programs for professional improvement required to archivists, reeducation program currently offered in National Archives of Korea is inadequate to deal with performing the extended roles required to archivists. This study analyzed the current situation and problem of reeducation program currently offered in National Archives of Korea, as compared to domestic and foreign reeducation programs, and surveyed archivists' opinion about requirements to perform their extended roles in practice. Based on the results, this study improved a reeducation program in National Archives in Korea.

  • In this paper, we design and implement the prototype system, and propose the Extended Faceted Classification. Scheme and the Hybrid Retrieval Method that support classifying the software components, storing in library, and efficient retrieval according to user's request. In order to designs the classification scheme, we identify several necessary items by analyzing basic classes of software components that are to be classified. Then, we classify the items by their characteristics, decide the facets, and compose the component descriptors. According to their basic characteristics, we store software components in the library by clustering their application domains and are assign weights to the facets and its items to describe the component characteristics. In order to retrieve the software components, we use the retrieval-by-query model, and the weights and similarity for easy retrieval of similar software components. As the result of applying proposed classification scheme and retrieval model, we can easily identify similar components and the process of classification become simple. Also, the construction of queries becomes simple, the control of the size and order of the components to be retrieved possible, and the retrieval effectiveness is improved.

  • This study aimed to understand why small libraries, which have been continuously extended by the increase of social interest in them and the enactment of 「Promotion of Small Library Act」, an independent law about small libraries, are poorly activated. To this end, it examined the actual status of small library operation, related policies, support and legislations. By summarizing the results, it proposed a policy direction and tasks for activating small libraries. The policy tasks for activating them consist of three main tasks such as 'the improvement of laws and institutions for establishing the base of policies and securing practical momentum', 'the reestablishment of roles by policy units and the reinforcement of cooperation systems' and 'the construction of stable operation support system for small libraries', and their 14 sub-tasks, under the vision of 'the activation of small libraries support local residents' happy life' and the core value of 'a comprehensive policy ground, the innovation of policy systems and sustainable management support'.

  • This study suggested that the concept of creative zone raised by the national interest of the 'Creation' should be extended in public libraries. The concept of creative zone in public libraries was analyzed on the basis of 'Con-creative structure ontology' by Rombach. As we understand a creator and creation as the relation of 'subject'-'object', The current concept of 'Creation' dilutes the possibility of 'Autogenese' that all beings as a subject possess. But 'Con-creative Structure' describes the process of 'Autogenese' through sharing and mutual communication of all beings. The formation process of Con-creative Structure corresponds to the philosophy of the library that supports the self-growth through communication and sharing. 'Co-working Space' is more suitable for the substantive image of Con-creativity than 'Makerspace'. Therefore, this study analyzed circumstances of creative zone in public libraries and Co-working Space in business areas and provided the conceptive and substantive modeling for Co-working Space in public libraries.

  • The characteristic and application of a new duality structure in the $NCV-{\mid}v_1$ > library is studied in this paper. All unitary operations on arbitrarily many qudit's n can be expressed as composition of one- and two-qudit $NCV-{\mid}v_1$ > libraries if their state vectors are eigenvectors. This research provides an extended realization from Barenco's many bits n operator(U(2n)) which is applicable to only all positive polarity statevectors to whole polarity ones. At the control gate synthesis of a unitary operator, such an enhanced expansion is possible due to their symmetric duality property in the case of using both $NCV-{\mid}v_1$ > and $NCV^{\dag}-{\mid}v_1$ > libraries which make the AND predominantly dependent cascade synthesis possible.
