One of the delicate problems in aquifer management is the identification of the spatial distribution of tile hydrological parameters. The observed data are insufficient to identify the distribution of transmissivities in LAN aquifer. To determine the distribution of the transmissivity in LAN aquifer, it would be required to transform the observed heads at the pilot points into transmissivities. Therefore, three procedures wire tackled for the identification of the spatial distribution of the hydrological parameters; geostatistical estimate of the parameter field on the basis of known well point, heads reconstructed by a numerical model, and modification of the values at pilot points by a minimization algorithm. The variogram of Kriging has been applied to a total of 258 transmissivity value in attempt to quantify their distribution of LAN aquifer. Variogram of the observed and optimized transmissivities at pilot points are adapted to the exponential form. So, it is fitted by theoretical one with coefficients of w=0.623, a=2.743. Values of head obtained through numerical analysis are adjusted to the observed values so that heads have been transformed completely into the transmissivities at the observation wells. The procedure represented contour map of the estimated transmissivities and the calculated head.

In this paper, an analytical solution of calculating the excess temperature field due to a point heat source is presented in the presence of spring-neap modulation of convective alongshore flow. The basic form of the solution is identical to that given by Jung et al. (2003) but the convective term in the exponential kernel function is extended and a spring-neap variation in the horizontal eddy diffusivity is newly introduced. A set of calculations have been performed to examine the sensitivity of the heat build-up to the change in current fields and turbulent dispersion. Results indicate that the excess temperature field is confined within the tidal excursion distance, while the excess temperature field beyond the distance is mainly controlled by the horizontal diffusion. The heat build-up within the distance is considerably affected by the spring-neap variation in the horizontal eddy diffusivity; the relatively high excess temperature more than 1$^{\circ}C$ is extended further when the eddy diffusivity has spring-neap modulation.

The effects of coexpression of GroEL/ES and DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE chaperones on the productivity of the soluble form of human granulocyte colony stimulating factor (hG-CSF) in E. coli were examined. Recombinant hG-CSF protein was coexpressed with DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE or GroEL/ES chaperones under the control of the araB or Pzt-1 promoter, respectively. The optimal concentration of L-arabinose for the expression of DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE was found to be 1 mg/ml. When L-arabinose was added at $OD_{600}$=0.2 (early-exponential phase), soluble hG-CSF production was greatly increased. In addition, it was observed that the DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE and GroEL/ES chaperones had no synergistic effects on preventing aggregation of hG-CSF protein. Consequently, by coexpression of the DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE chaperone, the signal intensity of the hG-CSF protein band in the soluble fraction of cell lysate was increased from $3.5\%\;to\;13.9\%$, and Western blot analysis also revealed about a 4-5-fold increase of production of soluble hG-CSF over the non-induction case of DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE.
A kernel in support vector machines can be described as a similarity measure between data, and this measure is used to find an optimal hyperplane that classifies patterns. It is therefore important to effectively incorporate the characteristics of data into the similarity measure. To find an optimal similarity between amino acid sequences, we propose a real exponent exponential form of the two metrices, which are derived from the evolutionary relationships of amino acids and the hydrophobicity of amino acids. We prove that the proposed metric satisfies the conditions to be a metric, and we find a relation between the proposed metric and the metrics in the string kernels which are widely used for the processing of amino acid sequences and DNA sequences. In the prediction experiments on the cleavage site of the signal peptide, the optimal metric can be found in the proposed metrics.

This paper reports that the Lambert W function applies to a non-iterative design of minimum mean square-error scalar quantizers for a Laplacian source. Specifically, it considers a non-iterative design algorithm for optimum quantizers for a Laplacian source; it finds that the solution of the recursive nonlinear equation in the non-iterative design is elegantly expressed in term of the principal branch of the Lambert W function in a closed form; and it proves that the non-iterative algorithm applies only to exponential or Laplacian sources. The contribution of the paper is in the reduction of the time needed for the design and the increased accuracy in resulting quantization points and thresholds, because the algorithm is non-iterative and the Lambert W function can be evaluated as accurately as desired. Also, numerical results show how optimal quantization distortion converges monotonically to the Panter-Dite constant and help derive an approximation formula for the key parameters of optimum quantizers.
High Deborah or Weissenberg number problems in viscoelastic flow modeling have been known formidably difficult even in the inertialess limit. There exists almost no result that shows satisfactory accuracy and proper mesh convergence at the same time. However recently, quite a breakthrough seems to have been made in this field of computational rheology. So called matrix-logarithm (here we name it tensor-logarithm) formulation of the viscoelastic constitutive equations originally written in terms of the conformation tensor has been suggested by Fattal and Kupferman (2004) and its finite element implementation has been first presented by Hulsen (2004). Both the works have reported almost unbounded convergence limit in solving two benchmark problems. This new formulation incorporates proper polynomial interpolations of the logarithm for the variables that exhibit steep exponential dependence near stagnation points, and it also strictly preserves the positive definiteness of the conformation tensor. In this study, we present an alternative procedure for deriving the tensor-logarithmic representation of the differential constitutive equations and provide a numerical example with the Leonov model in 4:1 planar contraction flows. Dramatic improvement of the computational algorithm with stable convergence has been demonstrated and it seems that there exists appropriate mesh convergence even though this conclusion requires further study. It is thought that this new formalism will work only for a few differential constitutive equations proven globally stable. Thus the mathematical stability criteria perhaps play an important role on the choice and development of the suitable constitutive equations. In this respect, the Leonov viscoelastic model is quite feasible and becomes more essential since it has been proven globally stable and it offers the simplest form in the tensor-logarithmic formulation.
In the last decade, there has been an exponential increase of scientific interest in smart additive manufacturing (AM) technology. Among the different AM techniques, one of the most commonly applied processes is digital light processing (DLP). DLP uses a digital projector screen to flash an ultraviolet light which cures photopolymer resins. The resin is cured to form a solid to produce parts with precise high dimensional accuracy. During the curing process, there are several process parameters that need to be optimized. Among these, the exposure time affects the quality of the 3D printed specimen such as mechanical strength and dimensional accuracy. This study examines optimal exposure times and their impact on printed part. It was found that there is optimal exposure time for printed part to have appropriate mechanical strength and accurate dimensions. The gel fraction and TGA test results confirmed that the improvement of mechanical properties with the increasing UV exposure time was due to the increase of crosslinked network formation with UV exposure time in acrylic resins. In addition, gel fraction and thermogravimetric analysis were employed to microscopically investigate how this process parameter impacts mechanical performance.

Background: The generalized gamma distribution statistics constitute an extensive family that contains nearly all of the most commonly used distributions including the exponential, Weibull and log normal. A saturated version of the model allows covariates having effects through all the parameters of survival time distribution. Accelerated failure-time models assume that only one parameter of the distribution depends on the covariates. Methods: We fitted both the conventional GG model and the saturated form for each of its members including the Weibull and lognormal distribution; and compared them using likelihood ratios. To compare the selected parameter distribution with log logistic distribution which is a famous distribution in survival analysis that is not included in generalized gamma family, we used the Akaike information criterion (AIC; r=l(b)-2p). All models were fitted using data for 369 women age 50 years or more, diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in BC during 1990-1999 and followed to 2010. Results: In both conventional and saturated parametric models, the lognormal was the best candidate among the GG family members; also, the lognormal fitted better than log-logistic distribution. By the conventional GG model, the variables "surgery", "radiotherapy", "hormone therapy", "erposneg" and interaction between "hormone therapy" and "erposneg" are significant. In the AFT model, we estimated the relative time for these variables. By the saturated GG model, similar significant variables are selected. Estimating the relative times in different percentiles of extended model illustrate the pattern in which the relative survival time change during the time. Conclusions: The advantage of using the generalized gamma distribution is that it facilitates estimating a model with improved fit over the standard Weibull or lognormal distributions. Alternatively, the generalized F family of distributions might be considered, of which the generalized gamma distribution is a member and also includes the commonly used log-logistic distribution.
Voume functions, which are usually expressed by the function of dbh and height, are estimated commonly through the regression analysis with the highest statistical accuracy considered. In Korea, general volume functions for each tree species were prepared by means of the regression analysis with the exponential function ($V=aD^bH^c$) having the dbh(D) and height(H) as independent variables. In this study, regional stem curve functions for the Pinus densiflora in Kangwon-province were derived and a regional volume function model, in which the stem volume can be directly estimated through the rotational integral of the regional stem curve functions, was prepared. The regional volume estimated by the prepared model was more accurate than the volume by the general volume table for the Pinus densiflora in Kangwon-province. Additionary, the form of stem curves derived by the regional stem curve functions showed difference from each other. The stem in Youngwol and Wonju taper down more fast in upper part than that in other regions. These various stem forms also led to the regional difference in volume estimates.

The temperature accelerated dielectric breakdown strength of on-wafer low-k dielectric polymer films with thicknesses ranging from 94 nm to 1141 nm is investigated by using the current-voltage characteristic measurements with MIS structures. The temperature dependence of dielectric strength is demonstrated to be Arrhenious for all thicknesses. However, the activation energy is found to be strongly thickness dependent. It follows an exponential relationship rather than being a single value, i.e., the activation energy increase significantly as film thickness increases for the thickness below 500 nm, but it is almost constant for the thickness above 500 nm. This relationship suggests that the change of the activation energy corresponding to different film thickness is closely related to the temperature dependence of the electron trapping/detrapping process in polymer thin films, and is determined by both the trapping rate and the detrapping rate. Thinner films need less energy to form a conduction path compared to thicker films. Hence, it leads to smaller activation energy in thinner films, and the activation energy increases with the increase in film thickness. However, a nearly constant value of the activation energy is achieved above a certain range of film thickness, indicating that the trapping rate and detrapping rate is almost equal and eventually the activation energy approaches the value of bulk material.
