  • Hydroforming is the technology using hydraulic pressure and forming sheet or tube metals to desired shape in a die cavity. lt can be characterized as tube hydroforming and sheet hydroforming depending on the shape of used blank. Due to its prcess-related benefits, this production technology has been remarkably noticed for great potential for feasible applications and recently gained great attraction from many industrials including automotive and non-automotive. This Paper analyzed the tube and the welded blank hydroforming process and compared formability of the processes for automotive engine mount bracket. The mathematical analysis was performed by using the dynamic explicit finite element code, PAM-STAMP. In tube hydroforming, bending, springback, and forming analysis were carried out and the effect of mandrel and axial feeding were examined. In welded blank hydroforming, pressure curve history is determined and the results of forming analysis were evaluated by the comparison of experimental results in the aspects of deformed shape and thickness distribution.

  • Regression analysis (RA) can establish an explicit formula to predict the strength of High-Performance Concrete (HPC); however, the accuracy of the formula is poor. Back-Propagation Networks (BPNs) can establish a highly accurate model to predict the strength of HPC, but cannot generate an explicit formula. Genetic Operation Trees (GOTs) can establish an explicit formula to predict the strength of HPC that achieves a level of accuracy in between the two aforementioned approaches. Although GOT can produce an explicit formula but the formula is often too complicated so that unable to explain the substantial meaning of the formula. This study developed a Backward Pruning Technique (BPT) to simplify the complexity of GOT formula by replacing each variable of the tip node of operation tree with the median of the variable in the training dataset belonging to the node, and then pruning the node with the most accurate test dataset. Such pruning reduces formula complexity while maintaining the accuracy. 404 experimental datasets were used to compare accuracy and complexity of three model building techniques, RA, BPN and GOT. Results show that the pruned GOT can generate simple and accurate formula for predicting the strength of HPC.

  • A new method is proposed for random vibration anaylsis of hysteretic systems subjected to non-stationary random excitations. With the Bouc-Wen model, motion equations of hysteretic systems are first transformed into quasi-linear equations by applying the concept of equivalent excitations and decoupling of the real and hysteretic displacements, and the derived equation system can be solved by either the precise time integration or the Newmark-${\beta}$ integration method. Combining the numerical solution of the auxiliary differential equation for hysteretic displacements, an explicit iteration algorithm is then developed for the dynamic response analysis of hysteretic systems. Because the computational cost for a large number of deterministic analyses of hysteretic systems can be significantly reduced, Monte-Carlo simulation using the explicit iteration algorithm is now viable, and statistical characteristics of the non-stationary random responses of a hysteretic system can be obtained. Numerical examples are presented to show the accuracy and efficiency of the present approach.

  • This paper considers one of the explicit guidance algorithms, which has been proposed by Jaggers, to determine the closed-loop guidance algorithm for upper stages of a 3-staged space launch vehicle. Its commanded thrust vector is closer to the optimal solution when compared with that obtained by using the well-known Powered Explicit Guidance (PEG), which has been developed through the Space Shuttle program. Its performance is evaluated here by applying for guidance of the launcher during the second and third stages. Furthermore, to generate more precise guidance commands, it is attempted not to use the approximate formulas for the derivation of the original guidance law, and it is shown that performance is improved in comparison with the original.

  • As building information modeling (BIM) is expanding its influence in various fields of architecture, engineering, construction and facility management (AEC-FM) industry, BIM-based automated code compliance checking has become possible prospects. For the automated code compliance checking, requirements in building code need to be processed into explicit representation that enables automated reasoning. This paper aims to develop high-level methods that translate verb phrases into explicit representation. The high-level methods represent conditions, properties, and related actions of the building objects and clarify the core content of the constraints. The authors analyze building permit requirements in Korea Building Code and establish a standardized process of deriving the high-level methods. As a result, 60 kinds of the high-level methods were derived. In addition, method classification, analysis, and application are introduced. This study will contribute to the representation of explicit building code sentences and establishment of the automated building permit system of Korea.

  • In rigid-plastic finite element method, there is a heavy computation time and convergence problem. In this study, static-explicit rigid-plastic finite element method will be introduced. This method is the way that restrict the convergence interval. It is expected that various results from the numerical analysis will give very useful information for the design of tools in sheet metal forming process.

  • Today's organizations make every effort to achieve effective knowledge management. under the recognition that knowledge is a powerful. competitive weapon. For knowledge management to be successful, however, not only should knowledge be voluntarily offered by organizational members but also the organizational ownership of knowledge be perceived among members. In this regard. this study explores antecedent factors of organizational ownership of knowledge based on the extension of previous studies. The analysis of two hundred and fifty-five survey data indicates that cohesion of department or team, propensity to share, and task interdependence are significantly related to organizational ownership. The relationship turns out to be stronger with tacit knowledge than with explicit knowledge. Some suggestions are proposed for enhancing effective knowledge management.

  • In this paper, a fuel minimizing closed loop explicit inertial guidance algorithm for the orbit injection of a rocket is developed. In this formulation, the fuel burning rate and magnitude of thrust are assumed constant, and the motion of a rocket is assumed to be subject to the average inverse-square gravity, but with negligible atmospheric effects. The optimum thrust angle for obtaining the given velocity vector in the shortest time with minimizing fuel consumption is first determined, and then the additive thrust angle for targeting the final position vectors is determined by using Pontryagin's Maximum Principle. To establish the real time processing, many algorithms of the onboard guidance software are simplified. Simulations for the explicit guidance algorithm, for the 2nd-stage flight of the N-1 rocket, are carried out. The results show that the guidance algorithm works well in the presence of the maximum .+-.10 % initial velocity and altitude error. The effects of the guidance cycle time is also examined.

  • Knowledge based system includes tools for constructing, testing, validating and refining the system along with user interfaces. An important issue in the design of a complete knowledge based system is the ability to produce explanations. Explanations are not just a series of rules involved in reasoning track. More detailed and explicit form of explanations is required not only for reliable reasoning but also for maintainability of the knowledge based system. This requires the explanation mechanisms to extend from knowledge oriented analysis to task oriented explanations. The explicit modeling of problem solving structures is suggested for explanation generation as well as for efficient and effective reasoning. Unlike other explanation scheme such as feedback explanation, the detailed, smaller and explicit representation of problem solving constructs can provide the system with capability of quality explanation. As a key step to development for explanation scheme, the problem solving methods are broken down into a finer grained problem solving primitives. The system records all the steps with problem solving primitives and knowledge involved in the reasoning. These are used to validate the conclusion of the consultation through explanations. The system provides user interfaces and uses specific templates for generating explanation text.

  • This paper proposes an EMPC (Explicit Model Predictive Controller) for temperature tracking control based on heat load prediction by an ESO (Extended State Observer) for a variable cooling circulation system with multiple indoor units connected to one outdoor unit. In this system, heat transfer and heat loss relative to the input temperature are modeled using system dynamics. Using this model, we design an EMPC based on an ESO that is robust to temperature changes and depends on airflow. To determine the stability of both the controller and the observer, asymptotic stability is verified through Lyapunov stability analysis. Finally, to validate the performance of the proposed controller, simulations are conducted under three scenarios with varying airflow, set temperature, and heat load.
