  • In this paper, an experiment was carried out to measure the hydrodynamic oil pressure distribution in the clearance gap between a piston and cylinder. The results showed that the pressure distributions are highly affected by the eccentricity of the piston. Therefore present experimental method can be used to enhance the performance of hydraulic piston pumps. Further experimental studies for various operating conditions and improvement in data acquisition methods are required to obtain more accurate results.

  • The objective of experimental study is to apply simultaneous measurement by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) to high_speed flow characteristics within ginseng cleaner model. Three different kinds of flow rate(15. 20, 27l/min) are selected as experimental condition. Optimized cross correlation identification to obtain velocity distribution, time-mean velocity distribution, velocity, profile, kinetic energy and turbulence intensity are represented quantitatively for the deeped understanding of the flow characteristics in a ginseng cleaner model.

  • This paper presents a new method based upon the light scattering concept for on-the-machine measurement of roughness of ground surfaces. The present method utilizes fluxes of scattered lights condensed through lenses aligned along the specular direction. A theorctical analysis is preformed for the purpose of investigating the possibility of the method as well as determining the experimental condition. Experiment is also performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The theoretical and experimental results show that the proposed method has a potential to identify a wide range of surface roughness and is robust enough to be useful in on-the-machine measurement of roughness of ground surfaces.

  • A thermally stimulated current measurement using a temperature gradient (TG-TSC) has been applied to the study of dipolar depolarization in polymers. It has been clarified that theoretical analysis of TG-TSC in the initial rise region corresponds with the experimental results. We conclude that the experimental results on a cross-linked polyethy-lene (XLPE) film can be explained using the above relation and that the charasteristics obtained from the above theoretical analysis can be used for ascertaining the presence of a constant temperature gradient in a film.

  • The objective of experimental study is to apply simultaneous measurement by PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry)to high_speed flow characteristics within Ginseng washing machine. Three different kinds of flow rate(15,20,27 $\ell$/min)are selected as experimental conditions. Optimized cross correlation identification to obtain velocity vectors is implemented by direct calculation of correlation coefficients. Instantaneous velocity distribution, time-mean velocity distribution and velocity profiles are represented quantitatively at the full-scale region for the deeper understanding of the flow characteristics in Ginseng washing machine.

  • In this report, as the active position measurement system, a new method for two-dimensional position measurement system using a concept of semi-open type signal field has proposed. The feature of this system is realizing a position measurement only by scanning the encoded laser beams from scanning points to a measurement field, and observed it. First, both system configuration and encoding method are considered concretely, and M-sequence signal is selected for encoding. Next system design is performed to realize the theoretical measurement accuracy, and applied to a position measurement experiments.   • The Measurement method of the plastic strain ratio is various in Automotive sheet steel. In this paper, the measurement of the plastic strain are used two different methods, ASTM E 517 method and the automatic strain measurement tensile specimen during the tensile test, and compared the plastic strain ratios from the two methods. The experimental results showed that the measured plastic strain ratios from the automatic strain measurement method are coincide with that from the ASTM E 517 standard measurement in various specimens. Therefore, automatic strain measurement method by two extensometers shows good accuracy. Also, the strain dependance of plastic strain ratios could be recorded by the computer continuously and anisotropy of the strength coefficient, K, and strain hardening exponent, n ,could be compared with each direction automatically through the use of automatic strain measurement system.

  • It is necessary to calibrate measurement systems to enhance its measurement accuracy. The visual sensing system that is presented in our previous work has to be calibrated, too. It is a multiple mirror system for three-dimensional measurement, which is composed of a camera and a series of mirrors. It is important to calibrate the positions and orientations of the mirrors relative to the camera because they have direct influence on the relationship between the image plane and the task space. This paper presents the calibration method for the visual sensing system. To confirm the measurement performance of the implemented system. its measurement accuracy in measuring the locations in three-dimensional space is investigated. A series of experiments for measuring the locations of the circle-shaped marks are performed. Experimental results show that the sensing system can be effectively used for three-dimensional measurement.

  • In this study, an experimental method measuring the scroll under the temperature distribution similar to the operating condition is proposed and the results are presented. Direct measurement of the actual thermal stress is very difficult because of the rapid and complex motion of the orbiting scroll. Therefore, the experimental condition is provided on the stationary scroll heated in the electric furnace and, then, the mechanical stress and the effects of refrigerant are excluded from the resulting measurement. The experimental results are compared with these of FEM, both showing good agreement.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the most appropriate experimental method of the measurement of "damping loss factors" (DLF) for the statistical energy analysis(SEA) calculation. The successful prediction of vibration levels from the structure is critically dependent on the accurate estimation of DLF's not only in conventional vibration analysis but especially in SEA. Unforunately, calculation of accurate DLF is not an easy matter. So experimental methods are made use of for the DLF values. Three kinds of experimental methods for estimating DLF, i.e. decay rate method, half-power bandwidth method and power balance method, are presented and tests are carried out for the plate and the cylindrical shell examples. Pro and con of each methods is reviewed. Finally, calculated DLF values are used for vibration level estimation using commercial SEA software and compared with measured vibration data.tion data.
