The Spectral and Thermal Properties of Styrylquinolium Salts for Disc-Recordable Dyes

  • Several styrylquinolium salts were synthesized to investigate their absorption and thermal properties, which had five different p-aminobenzene units and three different counter ions (iodide, perchlorate, and hexafluorophosphorate anion), respectively. Hydroxy, methoxy, and methyl group in the meta position to the amino group led to bathochromic shift, while Ν-ethyl-Ν-chloroethylamino unit instead of Ν,Ν-diethylamino unit resulted in hypsochromic shift. A dye having a methoxy group in the meta position to the amino group had the highest molar extinction coefficient ($\xi$), while a dye carrying chloro group in Ν-alkyl chains had the lowest $\xi$. The type of counter ions had no effect on spectral properties like the maximum absorption wavelength and $\xi$. All styryl dyes had exothermic peaks at decomposition in DSC curves. Among these styryl dyes, S2 series with perchlorate anions showed the strongest exothermic decomposition. From TGA spectra, S3 series with hexafluorophosphorate anions had the best thermal stability and the sharpest threshold at thermal decomposition.

$TiO_2-Nb_2O_5$ 솔의 물성에 대한 분석 (Analysis on Properties of $TiO_2-Nb_2O_5$ Sol)

  • [ $TiO_2-Nb_2O_5$ ] sol was prepared using sol-gel method. Crystalline properties of gel powder changed from rutile phase to anatase phase with increasing $Nb_2O_5$ additives at $800^{\circ}C$, while they retained rutile phase regardless of $Nb_2O_5$ additives at $900^{\circ}C,\;1,000^{\circ}C$. They retained amorphous phase from $50^{\circ}C\;to\;400^{\circ}C$, retained anatase phase from $500^{\circ}C\;to\;600^{\circ}C$ and had rutile phase over $700^{\circ}C$ at 1mole% $Nb_2O_5$ additive. After $TiO_2-Nb_2O_5$ sol retained low viscosity with normal chain structure for a long time, its viscosity increased fast with network structure. DTA properties of gel powder had endothermic reaction due to evaporation of propanol and water about $78^{\circ}C$, had exothermic reaction due to propanol combustion about $290^{\circ}C$ and had exothermic reaction due to changing of $TiO_2$ phase about $640^{\circ}C$.

TiO2/Epoxy 나노복합재의 발열 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Exothermic Properties of TiO2/Epoxy Nanocomposites)

  • Recently, various nanoparticles have been used for filler in polymer matrices. The particles of nano size are whether high or not cross-link density in polymer affects the thermal and mechanical properties of one. The properties change as a result of chemical reactions between the nanoparticles and the surface of the polymer. There are two models for nanocomposites: "repulsive interaction" and "attractive interaction" between the nanoparticles and matrix. In this study, the variation in the curing mechanism was examined when nano-size $TiO_2$ was dispersed into an epoxy (Bisphenol A, YD-128) with different curing agents. The results of this study showed that the exothermic temperature and Tg in the case of the nanoparticles used (Jeffamine) (D-180) at room temperature were reduced by an increase in the $TiO_2$ contents because of the "repulsive interaction" between the nanoparticles and the matrix. The tensile strengths were increased by increasing amounts of $TiO_2$ until 3 wt% because of a dispersion strengthening effect caused by the nanoparticles, because of the repulsive interaction. However, such tensile properties decreased at 5 wt% of $TiO_2$, because the $TiO_2$ was agglomerated in the epoxy. In contrast, in the case of the nanoparticles that used NMA and BDMA, the exothermic temperature and Tg tended to rise with increasing amounts of $TiO_2$ as a result of the "attractive interaction." This was because the same amounts of $TiO_2$ were well dispersed in the epoxy. The tensile strength decreased with an increase in the $TiO_2$ contents. In the general attractive interaction model, however, the cross-link density was higher, and tensile strength tended to increase. Therefore, for the nanoparticles that used NMA, it was difficult to conclude that the result was caused by the "attractive model."

  • The electromagnetic properties and thermal behavior of Mn-Zn ferrite cores used for the blocking filter in he Power Line Communication(PLC) application were investigated as the function of additives. The highest density and permeability of 4.98 g/㎤) and 8,221 respectively were obtained to the specimen with composition of MnO 24 mol%, ZnO 25 mol% and Fe$_2$O$_3$ 51 mol% added MnO$_3$ 400 ppm, SiO$_2$ 100 ppm and CaO 200 ppm since the uniform grains were organized and the microstructures were compacted through reduction of pores. The permeability was increased up to 13,904 as temperature of specimen increased to 11$0^{\circ}C$, however, it was decreased precipitously under 100 over 11$0^{\circ}C$. The exothermic behavior was observed in the frequency range from 1 kHz to 1 MHz that the maximum temperature of specimens became 102$^{\circ}C$ at 1 MHz. In the consequence, the Mn-Zn ferrite core developed by this research will maintain the stable electromagnetic properties since the temperature of ferrite core rose to 93$^{\circ}C$ in the range of 10 kHz to 450 kHz bandwidth qualified for PLC.

  • Frequency-dependent electrical properties of $C_{22}$-Quinolinium(TCNQ) LB films were investigated in a frequency range of 10[Hz]-13[MHz] along a perpendicular direction. The films were heat-treated to understand an electrodynamic response in a temperature range of 20-240[.deg. C]. Frequencydependent dielectric constants show that there are two characteristic dispersions; one is a dispersion occuring near 1[MHz] coming from the orientational polarization of the molecules and the other one is an interfacial polarization effect below 1[kHz] or so when the annealing temperature is above 80 [.deg. C]. The overall frequency-dependent dielectric constant is higher near 80[.deg. C]. It may be due to a softness of the alkyl chains. Several other methods were employed to identify the internal structure change of the films. DSC(differential scanning calorimetry) data of the $C_{22}$-Quinolinium(TCNQ) molecules shows that there is an endothermic process near 110[.deg. C] and a weak exothermic process near 180[.deg. C]. While the endothermic process is related to a disordering of the alkyl chains, the exothermic process seems to be due to a chemical structure change of the TCNQ molecules. Thickness measurement by ellipsometry shows that there is a thickness drop near 100[.deg. C], and the thickness above 120[.deg. C] becomes around 20[%] of the room-temperature value.lue.

  • The electromagnetic properties and thermal behavior of ferrite cores used in the blocking filter for PLC were investigated as a function of additives. The highest density of 4.98 $g/cm^2$ and permeability of 8221 were obtained to the specimen added $MoO_3$ 400 ppm, $SiO_2$ 100 ppm and CaO 200 ppm since the microstructures were compacted through reduction of pores in the specimen. The permeability was increased up to 13094 at $110^{\circ}C$ with increasing temperature of specimen, however, it was decreased precipitously to under 100 over $110^{\circ}C$. The exothermic behavior was observed that the temperature of specimens became $102^{\circ}C$ at 1MHz. In the consequence, the ferrite core developed by this research will maintain the stable electromagnetic properties since the temperature of ferrite core rose to $93^{\circ}C$ in the range of 10kHz to 450kHz bandwidth qualified for PLC.

석조문화재 보존.복원에 적용될 에폭시 수지의 경화 시 반응열 제어 및 안정성 향상 연구 (Tuning Exothermic Curing Reaction of Hydrogenated Bisphenol A Epoxy Resins for Stone Conservation)

  • 석조문화재의 보존 복원 과정에 적용되는 에폭시 수지에 경화제의 혼합을 통하여 경화 시 발열 반응을 제어할 수 있는 접착 시스템을 연구하였다. 사용된 에폭시 주제는 hydrogenated bisphenol A (HBA), 경화제로는 속경화형 경화제 FH와 poly(propyleneglycol)bis(2-aminopropylether) (SH)를 사용하였으며, 무기 첨가물은 탈크를 사용하였다. 에폭시 수지와 경화제의 혼합비에 따라 경화 시 온도를 측정하고, differental scanning calorimeter (DSC)를 이용하여 경화동력학을 확인하였으며, 기계적 특성을 파악하기 위해 무기 첨가물의 함량에 따른 인장강도, 전단강도를 측정하였다. 연구 결과, 에폭시 수지의 경화제 혼합을 통하여 경화 시 반응열 상승폭 제어 및 경화 거동 제어의 가능성을 확인하였으며, 무기 첨가물 첨가를 통해 적절한 강도 조절이 가능하여 석조문화재에 적용 가능한 새로운 접착 시스템을 개발하였다.

THERMAL IGNITION OF A REACTION DIFFUSION SYSTEMS IN SOME CLASS A GEOMETRIES WITH DIFFERENT THERMAL BOUNDARY CONDITIONS

  • We examined the steady state solution for a strongly exothermic mixtures in some class A geometries subjected to different boundary conditions under Arrhenius, Bimolecular and Sensitised reactions. The solution of the governing nonlinear reaction diffusion equation was obtained using the variational method formulation executed in Mathematica package. The paper elucidates the influence of geometry, boundary conditions and types of reaction on the thermal ignition of the reactive mixture. Apart from validating known results in literature, the solution gave further insight into the influence of material properties and conditions on the occurrence of thermal ignition.

Synthesis and Optical Recording Properties of Coupled Hemicyanine Salts for DVD-R

  • A series of coupled-hemicyanine dyes with alkylene spacer were successfully synthesized by a reaction of coupled aldehydes with corresponding salts, respectively. These coupled dyes had more excellent thermal properties (high decomposition temperature, stiff decomposition behavior) and higher molar absorption properties than an uncoupled dye. The coupled dyes with perchlorate anions showed the strongest exothermic decomposition while those with hexafluorophosphorate anions showed endothermic decomposition. As the coupling length (n=3, 4, 5, 6) increased, thermal properties decreased and dyes with even spacer was more thermally stable than dyes with odd spacer. Among several coupled dyes, C4-NP-ClO4 and C4-Cl-ClO4 exhibited the best recording properties with the lowest jitter value of 7.5∼9.5% in authoring disc.

누전차단기 외함 전원측 단자사이의 트래킹에 의한 탄화특성 분석 (The Analysis of the Carbonization Properties between RCD Source Terminals Deteriorated by Tracking)

  • 본 논문은 누전차단기 외함 전원측 단자사이에서 발생하는 전기화재 원인에 대한 분석을 연구하였다. 누전차단기는 보호범위의 전기시설물에서 누전 또는 과부하에 의한 차단을 목적으로 한다 누전차단기의 전원측 단자는 트래킹에 의해 화재로 쉽게 이어질 수 있다. 따라서, 누전차단기의 재현실험을 통해 트래킹시료($E_1$)와 화재현장에서 트래킹된 것($S_1$)을 비교분석하여 전기화재의 원인을 밝히는데 중요한 자료가 되도록 하였다. 실험은 IEC Publ. 112법을 응용하여 실시하였고 누전차단기에서 미소방전과 건조대가 발생한 후 소손되는 것을 확인하였다. $_1$에서 전원측 단자간의 절연저항은 약 25.7Ω이고 $S_1$의 절연저항은 약 58.6Ω이었다. $E_1$의 발열피크는 $491.0^{\circ}C$$603.2^{\circ}C$였다. $603.2^{\circ}C$에서의 발열피크는 트래킹에 의한 것이다. $S_1$의 발열피크는 $593.1^{\circ}C$에서 나타났다. 트래킹에 의해 변화된 시료는 IR 흡수스펙트럼에서 $1590 cm^{-1}$ 에서 흡광피크가 나타나지 않았다.
