In this paper, we propose novel scene change detection and key frame selection techniques, which use two feature images, i.e., DC and edge images, extracted directly from MPEG compressed video. For fast edge image extraction. we suggest to utilize 5 lower AC coefficients of each DCT. Based on this scheme, we present another edge image extraction technique using AC prediction. Although the former is superior to the latter in terms of visual quality, both methods all can extract important edge features well. Simulation results indicate that scene changes such as cut. fades, and dissolves can be correctly detected by using the edge energy diagram obtained from edge images and histograms from DC images. In addition. we find that our edge images are comparable to those obtained in the spatial domain while keeping much lower computational cost. And based on HVS, a key frame of each scene can also be selected. In comparison with an existing method using optical flow. our scheme can select semantic key frames because we only use the above edge and DC images.

As manga is a genre characterized by combined use of letters and pictures, visual expression, that is style, is one of the most important representative elements, even beyond the structuring of the story. Shojo Manga (lit. Young girl's Manga) in particular is distinguished by visual style clearly differentiated from other manga genres. Shojo Manga uses a variety of unique techniques that cannot be found in other manga genres. The use of starry eyes in the depiction of the characters, taller than life characters, and the creative use of frames which disregard the traditional square shape are some examples. Therefore, the question arises of by whom and when such visual characteristics in Shojo Manga were created. This paper will analyze the figure of Nakahara Junichi (1913-1983), illustrator of Shojo magazines active between the 1930's and 1950's, and who as it has been stated in previous research, influenced the splendorous illustrations of Shojo Manga. Therefore, I will look for the commonalities and differences between Shojo Manga and Nakahara's oeuvre, shedding light on the origins of Shojo Manga and attempting to theorize the relationship existing between them.

We propose MBAP(Multi-rate Broadcast Active Probing) technique to get the right measurements for link quality in Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). Most routing protocols for WMN make use of link quality-aware routing metrics, such as ETX(Expected Transmission Count) and ETT(Expected Transmission Time), while the hop count is usually used in MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork). A broadcast based active proving technique is adopted in the previous studies to get the ETX or ETT of a link. However this technique does not reflect the multi-rate feature of WLAN because it uses a single fixed transmission rate for broadcast which usually differs from the actual rate used in data transmissions. MBAP overcomes this shortage by exploiting various rate broadcast frames for probing. We implement MBAP on linux system by modifying WLAN driver and related kernel sub-systems. Experimental results show that MBAP can capture link quality more accurately than the existing techniques.

In this paper, the existing disparity aquisition algorithms were analyzed, on the bases of which a disparity generation technique that is superior in accuracy to the generation time was proposed. Basically it uses a pixel-by-pixel motion estimation technique. It has a merit of possibility of a high-speed operation. But the motion estimation technique has a disadvantage of lower accuracy because it depends on the similarity of the matching window regardless of the distribution characteristics of the texture in an image. Therefore, an enhanced technique to increase the accuracy of the disparity is required. This paper introduced a variable-sized window matching technique for this requirement. By the proposed technique, high accuracies could be obtained at the homogeneous regions and the object edges. A hardware to generate disparity image was designed, which was optimized to the processing speed so that a high throughput is possible. The hardware was designed by Verilog-HDL and synthesized using Hynix $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library. The designed hardware was operated stably at 120MHz using Cadence NC-VerilogTM and could process 15 frames per second at this clock frequency.

The purpose of this paper is to start off a debate in the current situation in which there exists two different logics about a newspaper company expanding their business field to the broadcasting market. In order to analyze the implications of the phenomenon, three points are raised and analyzed. First, Chosun-Ilbo, Jungang-Ilbo and Donga-Ilbo, who had a permission to get into the broadcasting arena, did not make their logic based on the fact while deriving the public opinion to be optimistic. Second, they strictly held their frames in order to support their logics which were an overall deregulation, to stimulate the economy and to create jobs without introducing various perspectives. Third, broadcasting of three major newspaper companies could monopolize the public sphere rather than contributing to the diversity of public opinions against three existing broadcasting companies KBS, MBC, SBS.

This paper proposes a detection method of wipes including horizontal wipes with linear moving borders, such as horizontal or vertical wipes, Barn Doors, and Iris Rounds with circular moving borders. The suggested method first obtains a difference image between two adjacent frames, and extracts lines and circles by applying Hough transformation to the extracted difference image. Then, we detect wipe transitions by employing an evaluation function that analyzes the number of moving trajectories of lines or circles, their moving direction and magnitude. To evaluate the performance of the suggested algorithm, experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively detect wipe transitions with linear and circular moving borders rather than some existing methods.

In this paper, to improve the classification accuracy of bird and amphibian acoustic sound, we utilize GLU (Gated Linear Unit) and Self-attention that encourages the network to extract important features from data and discriminate relevant important frames from all the input sequences for further performance improvement. To utilize acoustic data, we convert 1-D acoustic data to a log-Mel spectrogram. Subsequently, undesirable component such as background noise in the log-Mel spectrogram is reduced by GLU. Then, we employ the proposed temporal self-attention to improve classification accuracy. The data consist of 6-species of birds, 8-species of amphibians including endangered species in the natural environment. As a result, our proposed method is shown to achieve an accuracy of 91 % with bird data and 93 % with amphibian data. Overall, an improvement of about 6 % ~ 7 % accuracy in performance is achieved compared to the existing algorithms.

This study conducted a frame analysis of the news reports of Chonbuk bus strike broadcasted via local broadcasting companies of the Jeollabuk-do. The results showed that all Chonbuk local televisions gave more emphasis on 'episodic' frame by emphasizing demonstrations and struggles between capital and labor. In the case of content frames, news reports did not present the solution or an alternative of the strike, and the democratic process frame or the institutional improvement frame was not embossed. Therefore, local television news of Chonbuk bus strike was insufficient in reporting causes and backgrounds of the strike. Also, it displayed existing press routine in reporting the issue of social conflict such as a bus strike.

In this paper we proposed a combined active contour model and motion estimation-based object tracking technique. After assigning the initial contour, we find the object's boundary and update the initial contour by using object's motion information. In the following frames, similar snake algorithm is repeated to make continuously estimated object's region. The snake algerian plays a role in separating the object from background, while motion estimation provides object's moving direction and displacement. The proposed algorithm provides equivalently stable, robust, tracking performance with significantly reduced amount of computation, compared with the existing shape model-based algorithms.

Although the effect of menu quality is very important in customer satisfaction and restaurant management, there are so many problems; many restaurants have not gotten out of their existing frames and ideas of customer services and management. Thus, this study chose some family restaurants, O, T, V, B, M in Seoul and Gwangju and examined the relationships of customer satisfaction, trust and revisit intention identified by their menu quality, using statistical data of total 199 copies of questionnaire. First, menu quality turned out to influence customer satisfaction partially. Second, customer satisfaction turned out to influence revisit intention. Third, trust of a customer turned out to influence revisit intention. In this respect, the image from menu quality of family restaurants perceived by customers must have affected customer satisfaction, trust, and revisit intention positively. Thus, it is expected that the study can contribute to working out effective business strategies in family restaurants in future.
