  • This study is to develop the pretreatment for the excess and digested sludge by elector-coagulation and dewatering. Electrocoagulation is applied to excess and digested sludge before transferring to the pistion type for dewatering. Piston type filter press as a laboratory scale plant was used to estimate the dewaterability. MMD of excess sludge was increased from initial diameter of particles ($34.16{\mu}m$) to the 87%($64.01{\mu}m$) after electrocoagulation. Al electrode is more effective than Fe electrode for the dewaterabiltity of excess sludge Electrodewatering after electrocoagulation as pretreatment makes the water content of sludge cake 50~60 wt%.

  • Sand piling method is one of the most widely used methods to improve soft soils. There are several methods to install sand piles, but driven pile method is considered as one of the easiest method. This method simply pushes down the sand piles into soft soils, so that the excess pore pressure would be generated if the soil is saturated. This pore pressure acts as consolidation load. If the amount of sand pile induced pore pressure can be predicted in reasonable ways, the effects of sand piling to improve soft soils would be predicted, and the height of preload can be reduced. In this article, sand pile induced excess pressure was predicted by cavity expansion theory, and the predicted values were compared with the field measured values. The results showed fair agreements between the measured and the predicted excess pore pressure.

  • In this paper, an analytical expression of the excess MSE of ITLMS(Individual Tap LMS) which results from the random fluctuation of the distance between the actual and optimal coefficients due to noisy gradient estimates, is derived. The expression reveals that the excess MSE of the ITLMS algorithm is smaller that that of the LMS algorithm. The performance of the algorithm from the computer simulation for a fading time-dispersive channel verifies the theoretical results.

  • In order to estimate the detection range of a active SONAR system, the SONAR equation is commonly used. In this paper, an algorithm to calculate detection range in active SONAR system as function of SONAR depth and target depth is presented. For given SONAR parameters and environment, the transmission loss and background level are found, signal excess is computed. Using log-normal distribution, signal excess is converted to detection probability at each range. Then, the detection range is obtained by integrating the detection probability as function of range for each depth. The proposed algorithm have been applied to the case of omni-directional source with center frequency 30Hz for summer and winter sound profiles. It is found that the optimal search depth is the source depth since the detection range increase at source depth where the signal excess is maximized.

  • A theoretical model was developed for rotary kiln and computational study was conducted to find the effect of feeding characteristics. One dimensional model with the variations of heating distribution, length of heating zone, excess air ratio and revolution was considered. The comparison of parallel-flow rotary kiln with that of counter-flow was conducted. For parallel-flow type, it is found that the variation of temperature of solid is not great for the zone that is following flame-heating zone. This zone is good to take the special treatment because thermal deviation is small and contacting time is enough for another treatment. Increase of excess air ratio have the effect of decreasing solid temperature. But this effect of decreasing solid temperature goes small for the great excess air ratio. The heating is efficient for the flame which has the maximum heating at the central region of the full length.

  • This study was performed to evaluation the consolidation behavior of agricultural reservoir in the very soft ground. The final settlement prediction methods by Hyperbolic and Asaoka methods were used to compare with the degree of consolidation estimated by exess pore water pressure. The dissipated excess pore water pressure during embankment construction and peak excess pore water pressure on the completed embankment were suggested for the estimation of the degree of consolidation. It was concluded that the degree of consolidation estimated from dissipated excess pore water pressure was more reliable than that from the peak excess pore water pressure.

  • A theoretical equation was proposed to consider the effect of ponding for the excess pore water pressure in agricultural reservoir on soft clay ground. The value of excess pore water pressure predicted using the proposed equation was compared to those predicted with the Terzaghi's method and the finite difference method(FDM), respectively, for the purpose of verification. The degree of consolidation according to ponding predicted by applying the proposed equation was close to the observed degree of consolidation on the double drainage condition(at DP-3) but it was less than the observed degree of consolidation on the single drainage condition(at DP-5). The equation was very applicable to practice because the analysis result by the equation was close to the observed data.

  • In this work, transient characteristics of the Non-Punch Through(NPT) Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor(IGBT) has been studied. we has analyzed with lifetimes excess minority carrier injected into N-dirft, base region of IGBT's BJT part and accumulated charge of on-state which affected swiching characteristic. In this paper, excess minority carrier and charge distribution in active base region is expressed analytically. This analysis proposed optical trade-off between lifetimes and accumulated charge for decreasing switching losses because charge result in switching loss when device was tuned off.

  • Scheduling technology is one of the most important elements required to support the Qos(quality of service) in the Internet and a lot of scheduling algorithms have been developed. However, most of there algorithms are not flexible in the distribution of the excess bandwidth. In order to improve the weakness of existing algorithms, DGPS(decoupled generalized processor sharing)has suggested recently. But, the DGPS algorithm is complex to implement and difficult to apply to the existing algorithms. In this paper, we propose a scheduling algorithm for distribution of the excess bandwidth which improves the implementation complexity of the DGPS and easy to be applied to ordinary algorithms.

  • The influence of gas hydrate dissociation on submarine slope stability was studied in this paper. Gas hydrates are stable under high pressure and low temperature conditions. Once gas hydrate dissociates due to natural or human activities, it generates large amount of gas and water. During gas hydrate dissociation, a pore pressure between soil particles increases and results in the loss of an effective stress and degradation of soil stiffness. A pore pressures model was proposed to calculated excess pore pressures generated by gas hydrate dissociation at the Storegga Slide. A slope stability analysis for the Storegga Slide using a two dimensional finite difference method was carried out by considering excess pore pressures due to gas hydrate dissociation. Since the excess pore pressure calculated by the proposed method resulted in the considerable loss of stiffness and strength in slope, a submarine slope failure occurred at the Storegga slide was well simulated.
