  • The KNR(Korean National Railroad) is trying to set a new rail standard to back up the speed-up policy of the conventional railways. This work has passably significance since the rail standards used were introduced from Japan without the consideration on our situation. The contact analysis between wheel treads and rail heads, attended with complex calculation and the wear experiments taken long time should be accomplished for the exact investigation to establish a new rail standard. However, this paper just concentrates the structural investigation of the proposed rail standard and the dynamic analysis between trains and rail models with intent to shift the above procedure on the next step.

  • A new method is presented for the synthesis of lossy tapered transmission line having presecribed frequency characteristic in the passband. The theory of lossy case extends lossless cases suggested by Klopfenstein and others, and a special optimization process based on the Fourier transfrom pair and generalized Taylor's procedure is proposed for exact designs of frequency-dependent and distance-dependent lossy tapered line. The process is achieved by control of zero points of lobe-like input reflection coefficient. The validity of the suggested method is confirmed by synthesizing a lossy microstrip transformer and analyzing the simulation results.

  • In the first-order moving average model, we present the exact likelihood equations as function of variance, correlation and parameters of coefficients in the orthogonally transformed model. Existence of maximum likelihood estimates for these unknowns are studied and a computational method is provided. (Because of the limited space Ive do not present the computer program which is written in FORTRAN.) 40 sets of generated data and economic data are used to demonstrate, and few of them are presented in the Appendix. A numerical comparison of MLE with the efficient estimate proposed by Durbin is presented in the particular case.

  • The fundamental theory and application of boundary element method for two-dimensional problem are introduced in this paper. Based on this boundary element procedure, several numerical calculations such as circular cavity problem, a thin plate with hole under tension and a long thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure are performed. The numerical results show fairly good agreement with exact solutions or results of finite element method.

  • Applying the matrix method for the two dimensional Markovian queues, this paper offers a procedure to calculate the exact values of measures of performance of M/M/s queues where customers demand multiple number of servers. A method of obtaining steady state probabilities is illustrated as well. An example problem is also presented.

  • The unbalance response analysis is one of the essential area in the forced vibration analysis of rotor-bearing systems. Local bearing parameters in ortor-bearing systems are the major sources which give rise to a difficulty in unbalance response computation due to the complicated dynamic properties such as rotational speed dependency and anisotropy. In the present paper, an exact condensation procedure is introduced to easily take into account bearing parameters in computation of unbalance responses for rotor bearing systems. The present method is illustrated through a numerical example and compared with the conventional method.

  • A two-step procedure to detect and quantify damages in structures from changes in curvature mode shapes is presented here. In the first step the maximum difference in curvature mode shapes of the undamaged and damaged structure are used for visual identification of the damaged internal-substructure. In the next step, the identified substructures are searched using unified particle swarm optimization technique for exact identification of damage location and amount. Efficiency of the developed procedure is demonstrated using beam like structures. This methodology may be extended for identifying damages in general frame structures.

  • To achieve high precision machine totals with high speed, it is needed to develop excellent rigidity statically, dynamically and thermally as well. In this view the chief things that thermal deformation of machine tool structure is directly related to high precision. And thermal behavior for transmission procedure have an effect on high precision. It is needed to exact temperature distribution of each members and all contact elements included for machine tool structure. This paper deals with thermal behavior caused by temperature variation in a high speed feeding process. At this procedure of temperature distribution is estimated using a Predictor-Corrector Method.

  • The exact cause of the system's failure is often unknown in the masked system lifetime data. In such type of data, there are two observable quantities, namely (i) the systems time to failure and (ii) the set of systems components that contains the component, which might cause the system to fail. Our objective in this paper is to use the maximum likelihood procedure in the presence of masked data to make inference for the reliability of the system's components. We assume a multi-component series system where each component has a constant failure rate. Different cases that permit for closed form solutions of point estimates are considered. The results obtained in this paper generalize other published results.
