A Basic Study on Reliability Evaluation using METRIS for Long Term Expansion Planning of Transmission System (송전개통망의 장기확충계획수립을 위한 METRIS를 이용한 신뢰도 평가에 관한 기초연구)

  • The paper presents a basic study on reliability evaluation using METRIS for long term expansion planning of transmission system. The main frame of methodelogy of the reliability evaluation of a transmission system in the METRIS is based on evaluation philosophy that the reliability level of a transmission system is equal to difference between the reliability level of HLII and that of HLI. While basic general theory of probabilistic reliability evaluation of transmission system has been presented, the GUI characteristics of input/out data system of METRIS have been demonstrated by the RBTS case study on METRIS.

  • This paper illustrates some case studies of reliability evaluation of iEEE MRTS using the tie line constrained equivalent assisting generator model(TEAG) for reliability evaluation of NEAREST. The proposed TEAG is able to supply the information for reliability evaluation of interconnected power systems. It is important that interconnection between power systems can provide the improved levels of reliability. Therefore, It is expected that the TEAG model developed in this study will provide some solution to many problems for interconnected power systems. The characteristics and validity of this developed TEAG considering transmission systems are introduced by case study of IEEE MRTS.

  • This paper suggests the power system reliability evaluation fur transmission lines planning in composite power systems. In recent the importance and necessity of some studies on reliability evaluation of grid comes from the recent black-out accidents occurred in the world. Since probabilistic criterion can reflect recognize the probabilistic nature of system components, the application of probabilistic criterion has received a lot of attention. This paper introduces features and operation modes of the Transmission Reliability Evaluation fur Large-Scale Systems(TRELSS) Version 6.2, a program made in EPRI, for assessing reliability indices of composite power system. The characteristics of the TRELSS program are illustrated by the case studies using the KEPCO system.

  • This paper deals with a comparative evaluation of the reliability of control rod drive mechanisms including their driving methods for nuclear power plants. Basically there exist two types of electromagnetic-jack-type drive mechanisms in commercial use that are called as Control Rod Drive Mechanism and Control Element Drive Mechanism. Each type has corresponding drive sequence to make the movements of insertion and withdrawal. A state-space model is derived for each model graphically. Then the evaluation of the reliability is carried out on the programming tool called SHARPE. The evaluation does not give any meaningful numerical values for the reliability but just shows a relative degree to each other in view of reliability.

  • Reliability engineering is regarded as the major and important roll for all industry. And advanced manufacturing systems with high sped and intelligent have been developing for betterment of machining ability. In this study, we have systemized evaluation of reliability for machinery system. We proposed the reliability assessment and designed and manufactured reliability test-bed to evaluate reliability. In addition we acquired reliability data using test-bed system and made database to handle reliability data. And also we not only use reliability data by analyzing reliability, but also apply design review method using analyzing critical units of machinery system. Form this study, we will expect to guide and increase the reliability engineering in developing and processing phase of high quality product.

  • The importance of conducting necessary studies on grid reliability evaluation has become increasingly important in recent years due to the number of blackout events occurring throughout the world. Additionally, quantitative evaluation of transmission system reliability is very important in a competitive electricity environment. The reason behind this is that successful operation of an electric power company under a deregulated electricity market depends on transmission system reliability management. The results of many case studies for the Korea Electric Power Cooperation (KEPCO) system using the Transmission Reliability Evaluation for Large-Scale Systems (TRELSS) Version 6.2 are illustrated in this paper. The TRELSS was developed by EPRI and Southern Company Services Inc. This paper presents the reliability analysis of KEPCO system expansion planning by using the TRELSS program.

  • This paper proposes a improved investment priority decision method of the facilities considering the reliability of distribution networks. The proposed method decides a investment order of the facilities combining, by fuzzy rules, the investment priority decision of KEPCO and the priority decision considering reliability evaluation indices. Where reliability evaluation indices are SAIFI(System Average Interruption Frequency Index) and SAIDI(System Average Interruption Duration Index), as referred to evaluation index for sustained interruption. The reliability analysis method of distribution networks applied in this paper utilizes analytic method, where the used reliability data is historical data of KEPCO. Particularly, we assumed that the failure rate increased as the equipment ages. To verify the performance of the proposed method, we applied it with the planned projects to reinforce the weak facility electrical facilities in KEPCO in 2004. The evaluation result showed that, under a limited budget, the reliability of the KEPCO in the Busan region using the proposed method can be enhanced than using the conventional KEPCO's method. Therefore, the results verify the proposed method can be efficiently used in the actual priorities method for investing the electrical facilities.

  • This paper deals with the ways that can improve the reliability of the course evaluation system based on reformation of the system and design of user interface for the practical applications. In the reformation of the system aspect, there are the improvements of the course evaluation questionnaires and the feedback of course evaluation to the lecturers. In the design aspect, a computer screen of the graphic user interface is redesigned to reflect the reformation of the system aspect issues. The results show the effectiveness in the reliability improvement.

  • Purpose of the electric power system planning and operation is to supply the electric energy to customers continuously and economically. With the mutual exclusive laws of nature between reliability and economic, finding the meeting point is very important but not easy. Commonly the probabilistic reliability indices of the electric power systems are represented with negatively. And the effectiveness of FACTS on the probabilistic reliability could not be reflected with common methods. In this paper, a method to evaluate the probabilistic arrival power at each load point is presented. With this new proposed method, probabilistic reserve margin at load points can be calculated and which can be used with positive reliability index also. Using the P-V analysis, the voltage stability is considered in reliability evaluation. It is expected that the proposed method will be useful expecially in reliability evaluation of electric power system which has voltage restriction.

  • This paper presents a practical approach to evaluate the reliability indices of electric distribution systems. The use of reliability evaluation is placed with framework of distribution system planning and operation. In this paper, the reliability model is based on an analytical method, connecting component failure to load point outage in each section. Five cases are reported in the paper to study the effect of varying failure rates and repair times on real distribution systems. Simulations are preformed by the developed reliability evaluation program.
