Structural monitoring is the most important part of the construction and operation of the embankment dams. Appropriate instruments selection for dams is vital, as inappropriate selection causes irreparable loss in critical condition. Due to the lack of a systematic approach to determine adequate instruments, a framework based on three comparable Multi-Attribute Decision Making (MADM) methods, which are VIKOR, technique of order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and Preference ranking organization method for enrichment evaluation (PROMETHEE), has been developed. MADM techniques have been widely used for optimizing priorities and determination of the most suitable alternatives. However, the results of the different methods of MADM have indicated inconsistency in ranking alternatives due to closeness of judgements from decision makers. In this study, 9 criteria and 42 geotechnical instruments have been applied. A new method has been developed to determine the decision makers' importance weights and an aggregation method has been introduced to optimally select the most suitable instruments. Consequently, the outcomes of the aggregation ranking correlate about 94% with TOPSIS and VIKOR, and 83% with PROMETHEE methods' results providing remarkably appropriate prioritisation of instruments for embankment dams.
Purpose: As Korean society has rapidly become multicultural in the last few decades, it is essential for nurses to become culturally competent to provide effective care for ethnically and culturally diverse populations. Considering the advantages of standardized instrument, there is a need to evaluate current cultural competence instruments to assess adaptability to Korean nurses. Methods: Using Macdowell's instrument evaluation guideline, a review and evaluation was done of the Inventory for Assessing the Process of Cultural Competence among Healthcare Professionals (IAPCC) and Cultural Competence Assessment (CCA), which were both developed based on cultural competence theoretical models and have been commonly used in nursing research. Two other Korean instruments were also evaluated. Results: The instruments reviewed have limitations in reliability and validity, as well as cultural background and development process, for measurement of cultural competence in Korean nurses. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to discuss and agree on a definition of what cultural competence is and to develop instruments to measure cultural competence in Korean nurses.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to analyze the current status of the possession of measurement and analytical instruments among work environment monitoring organizations that have been designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MoEL) in Korea. Methods: Data for measurement and analytical instruments were gathered by inspectors who had been assigned by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) and MoEL during the evaluation program for designated work environment monitoring service providers in 2012. Data for 11 monitoring instruments and nine analytical instruments were collected from 108 organizations. Basic data such as the type of service provides and the size of employment were also recorded by the inspector. Results: The total number of personal air samplers including high and low flow rates operated in Korea was 5,418, with average of 50.2. Average operation number of noise dosimeters was 35.0, while 3,780 dosimeters were used in 108 work environment monitoring organizations. There were 10,488 monitoring instruments in total. All service providers possessed at least one AAS and GC in their analytical laboratory. Total number of HPLC/MS was five, followed by ICP/MS of seven, with an average of 0.07. Conclusions: Based on the data, domestic work environment monitoring service providers possessed relatively reasonable measurement and analytical instruments. Nearly all instruments had been imported from advanced countries such as USA, UK and Japan. Periodic gathering of data on these instruments may help maintain good workplace monitoring results and the health of workers at the sites.
The factors involved in development of electronic grading systems for commodities such as grains and seeds include determination of the factors that influence the end-product utilization of the commodities, and the degree to which these can be predicted by electronic methods. The possibility of exchanging existing methods of grading by electronic methods has to be considered. The respective merits of techniques such as Digital Imaging and Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy have to be considered. Digital Imaging is a computerized version of visual inspection and grading, whereas NIR spectroscopy has the potential for grading on the basis of composition and functionality, Selection and evaluation of NIR instruments is an important factor, as are sampling and sample presentation to electronic instruments, and particularly the engineering involved in sample presentation. Sample assembly, and software for calibration development are described in the presentation. Finally the impact and implications of introduction of electronic grading are discussed with particular attention to marketing of the commodities.
This paper deals with the development of measuring methodology and the requirement for its evaluation of the infrared radiation from a naval ship to optical sensors, considering the Meteorological conditions. Factors required for measuring the apparent temperature and infrared radiation are identified and two methods are suggested based on the measuring instruments carried by ship or aircraft. and target operation in the Meteorological conditions is considered. This study describes some factors affecting the IR signature. required instruments to obtain the IR signal considering the naval ship.

The application of time-domain methods in emission measurement instruments allows for a reduction in scan time by several orders of magnitude and for new evaluation methods to be realized such as the real-time spectrogram to characterize transient emissions. In this paper two novel systems for time-domain EMI measurements above 1 GHz are presented. The first system combines ultra-fast analog-to-digital-conversion and real-time digital signal processing on a field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA) with ultra-broadband multi-stage down-conversion to enable measurements in the range from 10 Hz to 26 GHz with high sensitivity and full-compliance with the requirements of CISPR 16-1-1. The required IF bandwidths were added to allow for measurements according to MIL-461F and DO-160F. The second system realizes a system of time-interleaved analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and has an upper bandwidth limit of 4 GHz. With the implementation of an automatic mismatch calibration, the system fulfills CISPR 16-1-1 dynamic range requirements. Measurements of the radiated emissions of electronic consumer devices and household appliances like the non-stationary emissions of a microwave oven are presented. A measurement of a personal computer's conducted emissions on a power supply line according to DO-160F is given.
Objective: The aim of this study was to perform a comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of ultrasonic tips versus the Terauchi file retrieval kit (TFRK) for the removal of broken endodontic instruments. Materials and Methods: A total of 80 extracted human first mandibular molars with moderate root canal curvature were selected. Following access cavity preparation canal patency was established with a size 10/15 K-file in the mesiobuccal canals of all teeth. The teeth were divided into 2 groups of 40 teeth each: the P group (ProUltra tips) and the T group (TFRK). Each group was further subdivided into 2 smaller groups of 20 teeth each according to whether ProTaper F1 rotary instruments were fractured in either the coronal third (C constituting the PC and TC groups) or the middle third (M constituting the PM and TM groups). Instrument retrieval was performed using either ProUltra tips or the TFRK. Results: The overall success rate at removing the separated instrument was 90% in group P and 95% in group T (p > 0.05) The mean time for instrument removal was higher with the ultrasonic tips than with the TFRK (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Both systems are acceptable clinical tools for instrument retrieval but the loop device in the TFRK requires slightly more dexterity than is needed for the ProUltra tips.
Even experienced clinicians have difficulties in diagnosing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) exactly, due to its diverse clinical features, which vary according to individuals, traumas, and various comorbid psychopathologies, and its related compensation issues. It is usually mandatory for clinicians and researchers to use screening and assessment tools when diagnosing and evaluating PTSD. To date, research has developed numerous PTSD screening and assessment tools ; therefore one of the cardinal issues is to select the best of the various tools, the one most suitable for the clinician's or researcher's purposes. This article reviews several currently-available subjective and objective instruments for the diagnosis and evaluation of PTSD and groups them according to whether they are Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders-Correspondent Measures ; PTSD-Focused, Non-DSM-Correspondent Measures ; or Empirically Derived Measures. We present the instruments' psychometric properties and scoring methods and describe their merits and weak points, focusing on their practical usage.
The purpose of this study was to find out and analyze the science teacher's teaching methods. A total of 35 teaching methods were abstracted from the previous studies and the relating literatures. An instrument to measure the frequencies of using methods was developed and then tested to middle school science teachers. The Results of two factor analysis methods were compared. The results are as follows: The instruments's reliablity coefficient(Cronbach ${\alpha}$) was 0.7707. The teaching methods which middle school science teachers have used frequently were represented as the proposing of the learning objectives, the deductive teaching, the experimental activities by teacher's guide, the summarization after explanation, the reading text etc. Also, it was revealed that they have not use the diagnostic evaluation, the formative evaluation, the experimental activities by student's design, the instructional medium. By confirmatory factor analysis, the 1st factor included 13 teaching methods and 2nd and 3rd factor included 9 and 7 methods respectedly. The meaning of 1st factor was interpreted to stimulate student's learning motives. And the other's were about the development of instruction. In exploratory factor analysis factors were overlapped or more fined. These were due to the structure of factors.
