  • The dynamic characteristics of a system can be critically influenced by system uncertainty, so the dynamic system must be analyzed stochastically in consideration of system uncertainty. This study presents the stochastic model of a nonlinear dynamic system with uncertain parameters under nonstationary stochastic inputs. And this stochastic system is analyzed by a new stochastic process closure method and moment equation method. The first moment equation is numerically evaluated by Runge-Kutta method and the second moment equation is numerically evaluated by stochastic process closure method, 4th cumulant neglect closure method and Runge-Kutta method. But the first and the second moment equations are coupled each other, so this equations are approximately evaluated by a iterative method. Finally the accuracy of the present method is verified by Monte Carlo simulation.

  • In this paper, the stability of a flexible missle, idealized as a free-free beam, is evaluated by using the finite element method. For the study, heavy machinery part is modeled as a concentrated mass and the thrust, which is controlled by a feedback sensor located at a predetermined position, is considered as a constant follower force. The aerodynamic forces, the structural damping, the cross sectional variation servo lag effect are neglected in this study. With unconstrained variational principle, the finite element method is applied to the nondimensionalized beam eqution. The matrix eigenvalue equation is obtained and the eigenvalues are calculated by a computer for the stability analysis. The stability is evaluated by the inspection of the eigenvalues are calculated by a computer for the stabilith analysis. The stabilith is evaluated by the inspection of the eigenvalues of the problem. For the study, the behaviors of the eigenvalues at various thrusts and the effects of the magnitudes and positions of the concentrated mass and directional control constant are analyzed.

  • Ixeris dentata Nakai (Compositae) is a perennial herb and the young shoots when prepared properly are edible as a bitter appetizing vegetable in the early spring. The whole plant has been used as a folk medicine in treating diabetes in Korea. As a part of our studies on bitter substances, we have investigated the bitterness of the plant through a taste-guided fractionation method. Bitter substances were extracted by the solvent fractionation and the bitterness was evaluated by 10 trained panelists consisted with graduate students of Dept. of Foods and Nutrition. It has been revealed that the bitter compounds were distributed throughout the extracting fractions and the higher intensity of the bitterness was seen in the n-BuOH fractions. The bitter compounds were subfractionated by the silica gel column chromatography and the bitterness was evaluated by the trained panelists. The subfractions which were indicated as the bitter compounds will be further studied to isolate the compounds. The H$_2$O fractions were grouped according to the molecular weight through the ultrafiltration and the group with 1,000 < m.w. < 30,000 was evaluated as the most intense bitter subfraction.

  • This paper aims at assessing the seismic performance of Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) based on sets of recorded ground motions. For the simplest configuration of a structure-TMD assembly, in a comprehensive study characteristic response quantities are derived and statistically evaluated. Optimal tuning of TMD parameters is discussed and evaluated. The response reduction by application of a TMD is quantified depending on the structural period, inherent damping of the stand-alone structure, and ratio of TMD mass to structural mass. The effect of detuning on the stroke of the TMD and on the structural response is assessed and quantified. It is verified that a TMD damping coefficient larger than the optimal one reduces the peak deflection of the TMD spring significantly, whereas the response reduction of the main structure remains almost unaffected. Analytical relations for quantifying the effect of a TMD are derived and subsequently evaluated. These relations allow the engineer in practice a fast and yet accurate assessment of the TMD performance.

  • In this paper, the structural integrity and fatigue strength for the bogie frame of Monorail being developed in domestic was evaluated. Presently, the standard of evaluation for the bogie frame of monorail was not regulated. Therefore, the evaluation of the structural integrity and fatigue strength for the bogie frame was performed on the basis of the UIC 615-4 standard. The structural integrity of the designed bogie frame was evaluated by displacement and Von-Mises stress under each load conditions. And the fatigue strength was evaluated by combined main in-service load conditions specified at UIC 615-4 standard and it was compared with result of fatigue analysis using winLIFE v3.1 with the function of batch processing. The results shows that the structural integrity and fatigue strength of the designed bogie frame was satisfied, and the fatigue analysis using batch processing was more effective than conventional fatigue analysis using combined load conditions.

  • A new diagnosis model was constructed by combining atomic force microscopy (AFM), wavelet, and neural network. Plasma faults were characterized by filtering AFM-measured etch surface roughness with wavelet. The presented technique was evaluated with the data collected during the etching of silicon oxynitride thin film. A total of 17 etch experiments were conducted. Applying wavelet to AFM, surface roughness was detailed into vertical, horizon%at, and diagonal components. For each component, neural network recognition models were constructed and evaluated. Comparisons revealed that the vertical component-based model yielded about 30% improvement in the recognition accuracy over others. The presented technique was evaluated with the data collected during the etching of silicon oxynitride thin film. A total of 17 etch experiments were conducted

  • The purpose of this study was to verify fitness of a new raglan sleeve pattern according to the result of appearance and function evaluation. Also, it was to search the relation between the construction factor and the function on the selected 3 types of the existent raglan sleeve patterns and the new sleeve pattern. Three female university students having different shoulder shapes were selected as subjects, wore 4 different types of the raglan steeve was evaluated by professional panel. The functions of the evaluated sleeve patterns evaluated was made by the wearer themselves. According to the comparison of the new raglan sleeve pattern with the existent raglan sleeve pattern, the new raglan sleeve pattern acquired the higher evaluation scores both on the appearance test and the function evaluation. It was known that the appearance and function of the raglan sleeve pattern were effected by construction factors of the sleeve pattern.

  • In this study, seismic performance of low and medium-rise RC buildings with wide-beam and ribbed-slab were evaluated numerically. Moment resisting systems consisting of moment and dual frame were selected as structural system of the buildings. Sufficiency of moment resisting wide-beam frames designed with high ductility requirements were evaluated. Upon necessity frames were stiffen with shear-walls. The buildings were designed in accordance with the Turkish Earthquake Code (TEC 2007) and were evaluated by using the strain-based nonlinear static method specified in TEC. Second order (P-delta) effects on the lateral load capacity of the buildings were also assessed in the study. The results indicated that the predicted seismic performances were achieved for the low-rise (4-story) building with the high ductility requirements. However, the moment resisting frame with high ductility was not adequate for the medium-rise building. Addition of sufficient amount of shear-walls to the system proved to be efficient way of providing the target performance of structure.

  • An ozone condensation system is evaluated from the viewpoint of an ozone supplier for Bi-superconductor thin film growth. An ozone condenser by a selective adsorption on the silica gel surface is constructed. Ozone density is evaluated by three methods; ultraviolet absorption, thermal decomposition and Q-mass analyzing methods. Thermal decomposition method is found to be available to the density evaluation from dilute to highly condensed ozone. The highest ozone density condensed by the adsorption method is evaluated to be 97 mol%.
