Blend resin (PET/PETG 70/30 blend) of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and poly (ethylene terephthalate glycol) (PETG) of weight percent 70/30 was prepared by a twin-screw extruder. Undrawn films of the blend and pure PETG were made by melt-press in hot press. Drawn films were made by capillary rheometer. Crystallinity, shrinkage, thermal, dynamic mechanical, and mechanical properties of these blends and PETG drawn films were investigated by wide angle X-ray diffractometer, dry oven, DSC thermal analyzer, and tensile tester. The crystallinity and density of these films increased with increasing draw ratio and draw rate but decreased with increasing draw temperature. The crystallinity and density of the blend films were higher than those of PETG films. The tensile strength and tensile modulus of these drawn alms increased with increasing draw ratio and draw rate but decreased with increasing draw temperature. The tensile strength and tensile modulus of blend films were higher than those of PETG films. Shrinkage of PETG md blend films decreased with draw ratio and draw rate. Shrinkage of undrawn blend film was 600% higher than that of pure PET film.
The temperature dependence of the structure of micelles formed by a deuterated polystyrene-poly(ethylene oxide) diblock copolymer (dPS-PEO) in heavy water were investigated with small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). SANS data were analyzed using the hard-sphere structure factor in combination with the form factor of a core-shell model. The micelle aggregation number and corona radius were obtained from the fits to the SANS data. The micelle aggregation numbers varied with temperature from 229 at $25^{\circ}C$ to 240 at $45^{\circ}C$, with a corresponding increase in the core radius. However, the shell thickness of micelles decreased with increasing temperature from 6.2 to 5.8 nm. These structural changes of micelles might be ascribed to the decrease in the hydration volume per hydrophilic group in the corona because of the increase in hydrophobicity of the PEO block with increasing temperature.
This article describes the topical delivery and localization of budesonide through the hairless mouse skin. Two poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone)-block-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PCL-PEO) triblock copolymers (T 222 and T 252) having different CL:EO ratios were added in the preparation of budesonide particles stabilized with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and Tween 80 under ultrasonication. For comparison, a commercial PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymer (F68) was studied under the same condition. To demonstrate the effects of the triblock copolymer, the particle size of budesonide emulsion, entrapment efficiency, and in vitro release were measured and compared. The budesonide particles stabilized by the triblock copolymers had a diameter of ca. 350 nm with entrapment efficiencies of 66-76%. The In vitro release profiles of all samples showed an initial burst followed by sustained release. The skin penetration and permeation of budesonide were analyzed by using a Frantz diffusion cell. T 222 and T 252 exhibited higher total permeation amounts, but lower budesonide penetration amounts, than F68. The results suggest that the partitioning of budesonide in each skin layer can be adjusted in order to avoid skin thinning and negative immune response arising from the penetration of budesonide in blood vessels.
This study used 4-fluorostyrene with the cross-linker EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and the initiator AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) for copolymerization. Measurement of the physical properties of the copolymerized polymer showed that the water content was 19.98 ~ 31.08%, refractive index 1.443 ~ 1.475, visible transmittance 87 ~ 93% and tensile strength 0.246 ~ 0.311 kgf while the contact angle showed a distribution between $54.14^{\circ}$ and $66.95^{\circ}$. Therefore, the ophthalmic material produced using 4-fluorostyrene satisfied the basic physical properties required for contact lenses and also showed an increase in wettability and refractive index while having no significant change in water content with relation to styrene. Based on the results of this study, the produced copolymer is suitable for use as a material to high refractive index and wettability contact lenses.
Poly (N,N-dimethylacrylamide) is very useful in various fields due to its remarkable properties, such as water solubility and biocompatibility. This study used N,N-dimethylacrylamide with the cross-linker EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), MMA (methyl methacrylate), NVP (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) and the initiator AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) for copolymerization. Measurement of the physical properties of the copolymerized polymer showed that the water content was 36 - 42%, refractive index was 1.433 - 1.426 and visible ray transmittance 90 - 91% while the oxygen permeability showed a distribution between 13.1 and $21.29{\times}10^{-11}(cm^2/sec)$ ($mlO_2/mL{\times}mmHg$). The measurement showed that the increased amount of oxygen permeability of the copolymer measured using the polarographic method range between 11.0% and 80.5%. Based on the results of this study, the produced copolymer is suitable for use as a material to high oxygen permeability hydrogel lenses.
This study used 3-vinylanisole and 4-vinylanisole with the cross-linker EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), MMA (methyl methacrylate), NVP (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) and the initiator AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) for copolymerization. Measurement of the physical characteristics of the copolymerized material showed that the refractive index is 1.4496 - 1.4894, water content 22.93 - 35.50%, visible transmittance 88.8 - 90.8%. Also, measurements showed that the refractive index increased while the water content decreased as the ratio of 3-vinylanisole and 4-vinylanisole increased. And in cases of copolymer with 3-vinylanisole, 4-vinylanisole (added 15%) the results showed transmittance of 52.8 - 82.2%, 13.2 - 26.2% respectively for UV-A and UV-B showing that they have UV-blocking effects. Based on the results of this study, the produced copolymer can be estimated to be suitable for use as ophthalmic lens material for high refractive index and UV- blocking effects.

Elastomer-clay nanocomposite membranes were prepared by melt intercalation mothod with internal mixer. We are used NMR, Ionomer, SEBS (Styrene Ethylene Butadien styrene Copolymer) as elastomer, and modified clay. Gas barrier property of the elastomer-clay nanocomposites membranes were investigated by a gas permeability of $CO_2,\;O_2,\;N_2$ at room temperature. Gas permeability through the elastomer-clay nanocomposite membranes increased due to increased tortuosity made by intercalation of clay in elastomer.
Blend films based on the poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL) and amphiphilic biodegradable polymer, poly(ethylene glycol) grafted poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL-g- PEG), were prepared with different blend ratios in order to develop new biomedical material. PCL was the main component in the blend. The miscibility and characteristics of the blends were investigated. The crystallization temperature of the blend shifted to high temperatures with an increase of the graft copolymer contents when the homopolymer PCL was the main component of the blend. The PEG side chain in the blend affected the crystallization rate of the PCL crystals in the blend and alternating extinction bands were observed by optical microscopy. The protein adhesion behavior of the film was influenced by the water uptake of the film.
This study used glycerol dimethacrylate with the cross-linker EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), MMA (methyl methacrylate), MA (methacrylic acid) and the initiator AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) for copolymerization. Measurement of the physical properties of the copolymerized polymer showed that the water content was 22~32%, refractive index was 1.442~1.463 and visible ray transmittance 90.0~90.5% while the contact angle showed a distribution between 56 and $65^{\circ}$. Also, the measurement showed that the decreased amount of contact angle of the copolymer measured using the sessile drop method ranged between $9.89^{\circ}$ and $18.99^{\circ}$ with increase of glycerol dimethacrylate. Based on the results of this study, the produced copolymer is suitable for use as a material to high wettability ophthalmic lenses.
This study was performed to investigate the change in the chemical components of red pepper powder using different packaging materials and various storage conditions. Red pepper powders with 11 and 15% initial moisture content were packed with five different materials and stored at different temperatures (0, 20, and 30 C) for a one year period. Over the storage period, each combination was periodically sampled, and examined for composition changes. The five packaging materials were: linear low density polyethylene(LLDPE), nylon/LLDPE(Ny/LLDPE), saran coated ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer/linear low density polyethylene(B650), nylon/Tie/nylon/ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer/nylon/Tie/LLDPE(RDX-2787) and oriented polypropylene/alumimum/LLDPE(OPP/Al/LLDPE), and the three storage conditions were (28.3${\pm}$1.0)$^{\circ}C$ with (15.5${\pm}$2.8)% relative humidity, (18.6${\pm}$0.5)$^{\circ}C$ with (46.6${\pm}$4.9)% RH, and (0${\pm}$2)$^{\circ}C$ with (80${\pm}$10)% RH, respectively. The moisture contents of all samples changed according to the relative storage humidity, except those of the samples packed with OPP/Al/LLDPE, which remained constant throughout the storage period. The capsaicinoids content of the red pepper powder did not change significantly for 6 months, but gradually decreased after that until about 85% of the original amount remained at the final stage of storage. The ASTA color values of all samples decreased gradually throughout the storage period. The higher the storage temperature, the more severe the deterioration. The color deterioration seemed greatly related to the existence of oxygen, as the deterioration was especially severe in the samples packed with LLDPE and B650, where the oxygen transmission rate were highest among the five packaging materials.
