It is reported that a method for the hydrogen production from the propane decomposition using carbon black as a catalyst is more effective than from the methane decomposition. Since the by-products like CO and $CO_2$ are not produced by the direct decomposition of propane, it is considered as an environmentally sustainable process. In this study, hydrogen was produced by the direct decomposition of propane using either commercial activated carbon or carbon black at atmospheric pressure in the temperature range of $500-1,000^{\circ}C$. Resulting products in our experiment were not only hydrogen but also several by-products such as methane, ethylene, ethane, and propylene. Hydrogen yield increased as temperature increased because the amount of those by-products produced in the experiment was inversely proportional to temperature. The achieved hydrogen yield at $750^{\circ}C$ with commercial DCC N330 catalyst was 22.47% in this study.
Trans-10, cis-12-conjugated linoleic acid (t10c12-CLA) has been shown to participate in the regulation of anti-inflammatory effects. The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of t10c12-CLA on reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) production and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-${\kappa}B$) activation in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and to determine whether these effects were associated with change of intracellular calcium ion ($Ca^{2+}$). ROS production was increased in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, and this effect was suppressed by 1,2-bis-(o-aminophenoxy) ethane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid-acetoxymethyl ester (BAPTA/AM), a calcium chelator. t10c12-CLA suppressed ROS production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, which was further more decreased by treatment with BAPTA/AM. These indicated that t10c12-CLA decreases $Ca^{2+}$-dependent ROS production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Similarly, NF-${\kappa}B$ p65 DNA binding activity and NO production were decreased by treatment with either t10c12-CLA, BAPTA/AM, or t10c12-CLA and BAPTA/AM combination. However, there were no differences between t10c12-CLA and BAPTA/AM treatment in NO production of LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. These data indicate that t10c12-CLA inhibits the increases in ROS and NO production and the NF-${\kappa}B$ activation in LPS-stimulated condition. These results suggested that CLA exerts potent anti-inflammatory effects by suppression of LPS-induced ROS and NO production, and NF-${\kappa}B$ activationn via $Ca^{2+}$-dependent pathway.

The catalytic hydrogenation of carbon dioxide has been studied for the fixation of carbon dioxide to mitigate global warming problems, but it needed hydrogen, which the price is still high. Recently, the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide has been drawn attractions because carbon dioxide could be converted to the valuable chemicals such as methane, ethane and alcohols electrochemically in the electrolyte solution using a catalytic electrode. This system is simple because the water electrolysis and hydrogenation take place at the same time using the surplus electricity at midnight. In this work, a continuous electrochemical reduction system was fabricated, which was composed of the reduction electrode (copper or perovskite type, $2{\times}2cm^2$), reference electrode(platinum, $2{\times}6cm^2$), standard electrode(Ag/AgCl), and potassium bicarbonate electrolyte solution saturated with carbon dioxide. The quality and quantity of the products and reduction current were analyzed, according to the electrolyte concentration and electrode type.
Ginseng has been used as a general tonic agent to invigorate human body. In the present study, we isolated novel glycolipoproteins from ginseng that activate $Ca^{2+}$-activated $Cl^-$ channel (CaCC) in Xenopus oocytes and transiently increase intracellular free $Ca^{2+}$ concentration ($[Ca^{2+}]_i$) in mouse Ehrlich ascites tumor cells. We named the active ingredients as gintonin. Gintonin exists in at least six different forms. The native molecular weight of gintonin is about 67 kDa but its apparent molecular weight is about 13 kDa, indicating that gintonin might be a pentamer. Gintonin is rich in hydrophobic amino acids. Its main carbohydrates are glucose and glucosamine. Its lipid components are linoleic, palmitic, oleic, and stearic acids. Gintonin actions were blocked by U73122, a phospholipase C inhibitor, 2-aminoethxydiphenyl borate, an inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor antagonist, or bis (o-aminophenoxy) ethane-N,N,N0,N0-tetracetic acid acetoxymethyl ester, a membrane permeable $Ca^{2+}$ chelator. In the present study, we for the first time isolated novel gintonin and showed the signaling pathways on gintonin-mediated CaCC activations and transient increase of $[Ca^{2+}]_i$. Since $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ as a second messenger plays a pivotal role in the regulation of diverse $Ca^{2+}$-dependent intracellular signal pathways, gintonin-mediated regulations of $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ might contribute to biological actions of ginseng.

This case report attempts to present a case of acute toxic hepatitis in fire extinguisher manufacturing workers exposed to 2,2-dichloro-1,1,1-trifluoro-ethane (HCFC-123) in August 2017 in Korea. Twenty-two-year-old male workers were exposed to HCFC-123 for 1.5 hours one day and for 2.5 hours the other day, after which one worker died, and the other recovered after treatment. The workers were diagnosed with acute toxicity of hepatitis. However, exposure levels of HCFC-123 were not known with no work environment measurement done. Therefore, this study was conducted to estimate the exposure concentration of HCFC-123 via a job simulation experiment. In the simulation, the HCFC-123 exposure concentration was measured with the same working practice and working time as with the workers aforementioned. As a result, the workers who infused HCFC-123 into storage tanks were estimated to be exposed to HCFC-123 at a concentration of $20.65{\pm}10.81ppm$, and a mean concentration of area samples within a working radius were estimated as $70.30{\pm}18.10ppm$. Valve assembly workers working on valves of a fire extinguisher filled with HCFC-123 were exposed to HCFC-123 at concentrations of $91.65{\pm}4.03ppm$ and $115.55{\pm}7.28ppm$, respectively, in the simulation, and area samples simulated within the working radius were also found to be high with concentrations of $122.75{\pm}91.15ppm$ and $126.80{\pm}60.25ppm$, respectively. Nitrogen gas packing workers, who did not handle HCFC-123 directly, were exposed to the agent at a concentration of $71.80{\pm}8.49ppm$. These results suggest that exposure to HCFC-123 at high concentrations for 1.5-2.5 hours caused acute toxic hepatitis in two workers.
The sources of uncertainty in the analysis of liquified natural gas (LNG) process are evaluated. The uncertainty sources evaluated are the repeatability of measurement, non-linearity of GC, the uncertainty of standard gas used for calibration, difference of gas sampling and deviation after GC calibration and major revealed sources are the non-linearity of GC, the uncertainty of standard gas and the deviation after GC calibration. The determined values and uncertainties of methane and ethane as the major components are $90.0%mol/mol{\pm}1.9%$ (relative and 95% level of confidence) and $6.26%mol/mol{\pm}0.08$ (relative and 95% level of confidence), respectively. The contribution of uncertainty varies depending on the source of uncertainty and gas component. In the case of methane, non-linearity of GC, the uncertainty of standard gas and deviation after GC calibration contribute 0.28%, 0.25% and 0.24% of relative expanded uncertainty, respectively.

The combined effect of bioaugmentation of dechlorinating bacterial cultures and addition of iron powder($Fe^0$ on reductive dechlorination of tetrachloroethylene(PCE) and other chlorinated ethylenes in a artificially contaminated soil slurry(60micromoles PCE/kg soil). Two different anaerobic bacterial cultures, a pure bacterial culture of Desulfitobacterium sp. strain Y-51 capable of dechlorinating PCE to cis-1,2-dechloroethylene(cis-DCE) and the other enrichment culture PE-1 capable of dechlorinating PCE completely to ethylene, were used for the bioaugmentation test. Both treatments introduced with the strain Y-51 and PE-1 culture (3mg dry cell weight/kg soil) showed conversion of PCE to cis-DCE within 40days. The treatments added with $Fe^0$(0.1-1.0%) alone to the soil slurry resulted in extended PCE dechlorination to ethylene and ethane and the dechlorination rate depended on the amount of $Fe^0$ added. The combined use of the bacterial cultures with $Fe^0$(0.1-1.0%)) showed the higher PCE dechlorination rate than the separated application and the pattern of PCE dechlorination and end-product formation was different from those of the separated application. When 0.1% of $Fe^0$ was added with the cultures, the treatments with the strain Y-51 and $Fe^0$ resulted in cis-DCE accumulation from PCE dechlorination, but the treatment with the enrichment culture and $Fe^0$ showed the more extended dechlorination via cis-DCE. These results suggested that the combined application of and the bactrial culture, specially the complete dechlorinating enrichment culture, is practically effective for bioremediation of PCE contaminated soil.
