This study aimed to review the performance stability of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) fiber reinforcing materials among the synthetic fiber types for which the application of performance reinforcing materials to fiber-reinforced concrete is being reviewed by examining short-term and long-term performance changes. To this end, the residual performance was analyzed after exposing the PET fiber to an acid/alkali environment, and the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength of the PET fiber-reinforced concrete mixture by age were analyzed, and the surface of the PET fiber collected from the concrete specimen was examined using a scanning microscope (SEM). The changes in were analyzed. As a result of the acid/alkali environment exposure test of PET fiber, the strength retention rate was 83.4~96.4% in acidic environment and 42.4~97.9% in alkaline environment. It was confirmed that the strength retention rate of the fiber itself significantly decreased when exposed to high-temperature strong alkali conditions, and the strength retention rate increased in the finished yarn coated with epoxy. In the test results of the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength of the PET fiber-reinforced concrete mixture, no reduction in flexural strength was found, and the equivalent flexural strength result also did not show any degradation in performance as a fiber reinforcement. Even in the SEM analysis results, no surface damage or cross-sectional change of the PET reinforcing fibers was observed. These results mean that no damage or cross-section reduction of PET reinforcing fibers occurs in cement concrete environments even when fiber-reinforced concrete is exposed to high temperatures in the early stage or depending on age, and the strength of PET fibers decreases in cement concrete environments. The impact is judged to be of no concern. As the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength according to age were also stably expressed, it could be seen that performance degradation due to hydrolysis, which is a concern due to the use of PET fiber reinforcing materials, did not occur, and it was confirmed that stable residual strength retention characteristics were exhibited.

The maturity concept is based on the fact that concrete gains strength with time as a result of the cement hydration and, thus the strength of concrete is related to the degree of hydration of the cement in concrete. The rate of hydration, as in any chemical reaction, depends primarily on the concrete temperature during hydration. Therefore, the aim of the study is to investigate of the correlation between strength of high-strength concrete and maturity that is expressed as a function of an integral of the curing period and temperature.

From the early 1980s, the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) has been developed as a one of the standard tunneling method in Korea. Approximately 10 years ago, wet-mix shotcrete with sodium silicate accelerator (waterglass) was introduced and widely used to tunnel lining and underground support. However, this accelerator had some disadvantages due to the decrease of long-term strength compared to plain concrete (without accelerator) and low quality of the hardened shotcrete. In order to compensate for these disadvantages, recently developed alkali-free accelerator has been successfully demonstrated in numerous projects and applications as a new material to make tunnels more durable and safer. An experimental investigation was carried out in order to verify the strength behavior of wet-mix Steel Fiber Reinforced Shotcrete (SFRS) with alkali-free accelerator. Compressive strength, flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength were measured by testing specimens extracted from the shotcrete panels. From the results, wet-mix SFRS with alkali-free accelerator exhibited excellent strength improvement compared to the conventional shotcrete accelerator.

The object of this study is to investigate the strength development properties and the strength prediction of three-component concrete using the fly ash and the blast-furnace slag by a maturity method. The results were as follows. The values of the activation energy on this experiment are calculated as 38.69, 36.47, 32.46, 30.99 KJ/mol in the W/B 60, 55, 50, 45%. And it is considered that the equivalent age can be used to predict strength of the three-component concrete in the optional age. Also the strength of the three-component concrete can be predicted from the result of high correlation between predicted strength and measured strength.
In evaluating the ultimate strength of a section for a reinforced concrete flexural member, the effect of member length is not usually considered, even though the strength tends to decrease with increase of member length. In this paper the influence of specimen length on flexural compressive strength of concrete was evaluated. For this purpose, a series of C-shaped specimens subjected to axial compression and bending moment were tested using four different length-to-depth ratios (from 1,2,3 and 4) of specimens with compressive strength of 590 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Results indicate that for the region of h/c <3.0 the reduction in flexural compressive strength with increase of length-to-depth ratios was apparent. A model equation was depth of an equivalent rectangular stress block was larger than that by ACI. It was also founded that the effect of specimen length on ultimate strain was negligible. Finally more general model equation is also suggested.

This study was examined the tensile strength change of a circular tubular member with artificial sectional damage on its surface to consider surface sectional damage by corrosion. The tensile strength tests were conducted using circular tubular specimens with artificial sectional damage considering sectional damaged height and width on its surface according to the corrosion level. From the tensile strength test results, it is confirmed that tensile strength of the circular tubular specimens was affected by the damaged circumference (damaged width), not damaged length (damaged height) and their tensile failures were appeared at the minimum section of the artificial sectional damage part. Nonlinear finite-element analyses were conducted considering equivalent sectional damage effect on sectional damaged part in tensile specimens to examine the change in the tensile strength of tubular specimens with artificial sectional damage since it is difficult to estimate the sectional damaged surface condition of the specimens clearly. From the nonlinear finite element analysis results for the tensile test specimens, tensile strengths of test specimens with irregular sectional damaged surface were relatively evaluated to be highly decreased than these of FE analysis model with equivalent sectional damage. Therefore, residual tensile strengths of tensile members with irregular sectional damage as local corrosion can be evaluated and predicted using correlation coefficient between tensile test results and FE analysis results with equivalent sectional damage.
Based on the equivalent uniform stress concept presented by Seed and Idriss, sinusoidal cyclic loads which simplified the earthquake loads have been applied in evaluating the liquefaction resistance strength experimentally. However, the liquefaction resistance strength of soil based on the equivalent uniform stress concept can not exactly reflect the dynamic characteristics of the irregular earthquake motion. In this study, the criterion of the liquefaction resistance strength was determined by applying real earthquake loading to the cyclic triaxial test. From the test results, relationships between liquefaction behaviors of saturated sand and earthquake characteristics such as magnitude or time-duration were determined. Magnitude scaling factors to determine the soil liquefaction resistance strength in seismic design were also proposed.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to use finite element analysis to predict the fatigue life of an implant system subjected to fatigue load by mastication (chewing force). The reliability and the stability of implant system can be defined in terms of the fatigue strength. Not only an implant is expensive but also it is almost impossible to correct after it is inserted. From a bio-engineering standpoint, the fatigue strength of the dental implant system must be evaluated by simulation (FEA). Material and Methods Finite element analysis and fatigue test are performed to estimate the fatigue strength of the implant system. Mesh of implant is generated with the actual shape and size. In this paper, the fatigue strength of implant system is estimated. U-fit (T. Strong, Korea, internal type). The stress field in implant is calculated by elastic-plastic finite element analysis. The equivalent fatigue stress, considering the contact and preload stretching of a screw by torque for tightening an abutment, is obtained by means of Sine's method. To evaluate the reliability of the calculated fatigue strength, fatigue test is performed. Results: A comparison of the calculated fatigue strength with experimental data showed the validity and accuracy of the proposed method. The initiation points of the fatigue failure in the implant system exist in the region of high equivalent fatigue stress values. Conclusion: The above proposed method for fatigue life estimation tan be applied to other configurations of the differently designed and improved implant. In order to prove reliability of prototype implant, fatigue test should be executed. The proposed method is economical for the prediction of fatigue life because fatigue testing, which is time consuming and precision-dependent, is not required.
