  • This paper presents an approach to evaluate the appropriate parameters for Piezoelectric ceramic utilization by adopting Impedance Method. Butterworth Van Dyke model (BVD) is considered to use as an equivalent circuit of Piezoelectric ceramic in case of no load. The experimental results from this model will be compared with the results from a circular Piezoelectric ceramic with 4.8 cm. diameter and 3 mm. thickness. The Thickness Mode vibration measured by Impedance Analyzer model 4192A can be analyzed from 1Hz to 13MHz for calculating and analyzing parameters at resonance frequency and anti-resonance frequency. These parameters are evaluated to design the efficient circuit for Piezoelectric ceramic utilization to obtain the optimal efficiency.

  • Finite element analysis was carried out to investigate the integrity and reliability of boiler module during sea transportation. The boiler module was supported by steel structure to relieve the instantaneous shock from oceanic wave and its primary parts were strengthened with several reinforcements. Finned tube walls which were used in the furnace wall were assumed as orthotropic plates having equivalent material properties. The bank tubes were also equivalently modeled in accordance with ASME B31.1 for the convenience of finite element modeling. The calculation results were compared with the yield stress of the material. In particular, the bank tube stress, which was evaluated by converting the calculated stresses in equivalent tubes into those in original tubes by using the ratio of diameter, was also examined with yield stress.

  • In this study, the influence of carbon equivalents on friction welds of similar steels was investigated. Four types of steels with 15mm diameter tested in the wide range of carbon equivalents from 0.3 to 1.1 Main experimental results are summarized as follows : (1) Under the constant burn-off length, the friction time becomes longer with the increasing carbon equivalent, but the upset length shows no consistent tendencies. (2) Due to the recrystallization in the contact area, the maximum hardness occurs some away from the contact surface. And it increases almost linearly with the increasing carbon equivalent. (3) Even a steel with 1.1 C.E. can be friction welded to make defect-free welds. (4) With the increasing carbon equivalent, the bend angle and charpy impact value decrease very rapidly in the range from 0.3 C. E., but remain nearly unchanged for C. E. higher than 0.6. (5) Heat treatment of the base metals before welding has very little influence on the mechanical properties of welds. On the other hand, normalizing of the welds improves the bend angle and charpy impact value, but its effect becomes almost negligible, when the carbon equivalents are higher than 0.6.

  • This paper presents design procedures of a transverse flux linear motor (TFLM). The minimum and maximum flux linkage was determined by the simplified equivalent magnetic circuit and estimated average magnetic flux density at the air gap region by considering the shape of applied magnetomotive force (MMF). With this information, the number of turns of each phase winding was calculated based on the amplitude of applied voltage and speed of a mover. The rated current, coil diameter, and winding area were obtained with the aid of an empirical formula for determining the required MMF. The usefulness of the proposed design method for TFLM is verified by the three-dimensional equivalent magnetic circuit network (EMCN) method and the experimental results of prototyped machine.

  • The main purpose of this study is to provide the information of soot generation of toluene fuel droplet. To achieve this, this paper provides the experimental results on the different initial diameter of toluene droplet combustion characteristics conducted under equivalent ambient pressure ($P_{amb}$) and oxygen concentration ($O_2$) conditions. Visualization of single fuel droplet was performed with high resolution CCD camera and visualization system. At the same time, ambient pressure ($P_{amb}$) and oxygen concentration ($O_2$) were maintained by ambient condition control system. Soot volume fraction ($f_v$) was analyzed and compared on the basis of intensity ratio ($I/I_0$) of background image. The result of soot generation was almost the same regardless of initial droplet diameter since thermophoretic flux is not much changed under the same ambient conditions. Soot standoff ratio (SSR) of 2 mm diameter showed unstable variation characteristics due to the short available measuring time.

  • Nanoporous silica aerogel insulation material is both lightweight and efficient; it has important value in the fields of aerospace, petrochemicals, electric metallurgy, shipbuilding, precision instruments, and so on. A theoretical calculation model and experimental measurement of equivalent thermal conductivity for nanoporous silica aerogel insulation material are introduced in this paper. The heat transfer characteristics and thermal insulation principle of aerogel nano are analyzed. The methods of SiO2 aerogel production are compared. The pressure range of SiO2 aerogel is 1Pa-atmospheric pressure; the temperature range is room temperature-900K. The pore diameter range of particle SiO2 aerogel is about 5 to 100 nm, and the average pore diameter range of about 20 ~ 40 nm. These results show that experimental measurements are in good agreement with theoretical calculation values. For nanoporous silica aerogel insulation material, the heat transfer calculation method suitable for nanotechnology can precisely calculate the equivalent thermal conductivity of aerogel nano insulation materials. The network structure is the reason why the thermal conductivity of the aerogel is very low. Heat transfer of materials is mainly realized by convection, radiation, and heat transfer. Therefore, the thermal conductivity of the heat transfer path in aerogel can be reduced by nanotechnology.

  • I made the axon to the electrical transmission model and then constructed electrical equivalent model using Kirhhoff's current law and voltage law in this paper. I calculated various axon parameters in order to analyze the electrical potential hehavior versus minute distance chang of axon. The transmission velocity of unmyelinated nerve is proportional to square root of axon diameter, while that of myelinated nerve is directly proportional to its diameter. Because the transmission of myelin sheath is independent of voltage unlike unmyelinated sheath, the Hodgkin-Huxley model across the membrane is not so precise.

  • Tissue equivalent proportional counter (TEPC) can measure the Linear Energy Transfer (LET) spectrum and calculate the equivalent dose for the complicated radiation field in space. In this paper, we developed and characterized a TEPC for radiation monitoring in International Space Station (ISS). The prototype TEPC which can simulate a 2 ${\mu}m$ of the site diameter for micro-dosimetry has been tested with a standard alpha source ($^{241}Am$, 5.5 MeV). Also, the calibration of the TEPC was performed by the $^{252}Cf$ neutron standard source in Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS). The determined calibration factor was $k_f=3.59{\times}10^{-7}$ mSv/R.

  • ASME BPVC provides stress evaluation rules for Class 2 and 3 nuclear piping. However, such rules are difficult to be applied to reinforced wall-thinned pipes during service. To resolve this issue, a new method for stress evaluation of reinforced wall-thinned pipes is proposed in this work, based on the equivalent stiffness concept. By converting a reinforced wall-thinned pipe to an equivalent straight pipe having the same stiffness, stress evaluation can be proceeded using the current ASME BPVC rules. The proposed method is applied to pipes with 4 different normal pipe size and the effects of reinforcement and wall-thinning dimensions on evaluated stresses are discussed.

  • Von Mises stress and compliance distribution was evaluated using a finite element analysis on the anastomosis of an artery with length of 20mm(z direction, along the horizental artery), inner diameter of 4mm, thickness fo 0.5mm and a PTFE graft with length of 5.7mm, inner diameter of 2mm, thickness of 0.2mm when anastomotic angle was $45^{\circ}$ and inner pressure of 1330 dyne/mm2 was applied inside the 2 conduits. From the analysis results were obtained as follows. (1) Artery diameter increased in both horizontal x(along the length of artery) and vertical y(perpendicular to the length of artery)directions and the magnitude of that in x direction was bigger than that in y direction. (2) The compliance was maximum on the anastomosis, especially on that with acute angle. The reduction of compliance was observed from the anastomosis area to the either right or left end. (3) The equivalent stress was maximum on top in the y direction and minimum on the nodes apart $110^{\circ}$ in circumferential direction from the top. (4) The equivalent stress was maximum in t도 vicinity of anastomosis with acute angle along the longitudinal direction of the artery. This trend was also observed along the PTFE graft.
