The top-to-bottom compression strength of corrugated board box is the most important mode of loading during it's no, and it depends largely on the edgewise compression strength of the corrugated board in the cross-machine direction and to a considerable extent on the flexural stiffness in both principal directions (CD; cross-machine direction, MD; machine direction) of the corrugated board. Corrugated board is a sandwich structure with an orthotropic property. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the principal design parameters for board combination of corrugated board from the viewpoint of bending strength through the finite element analysis [FEA] fur the various corrugated board. In general, the flexural stiffness [FS] in the MD was 2-3 times larger than that in the CD, and the effect of liner for the FS of corrugated board was much bigger than that of corrugating medium. The flexural stiffness index [FSI] was high when the stiffness of liner was in the order of inner, outer, and middle liner in double-wall corrugated board [DW], and the effect of the stiffness arrangement or itself reinforcement of corrugating medium on the FSI was not high. In single-wall corrugated board [SW] with DW. the variation of FSI with itself stiffness reinforcement of liner was much bigger than that with stiffness arrangement of liner. The highest FSI was at the ratio of about 2:1:2 for basis weight distribution of outer, middle, and inner liner if the stiffness of liner and total basis weight of corrugated board were equal in DW Secondarily. basis weight was in the order of inner, outer, and middle liner. However, the variation of FSI with basis weight distribution between liner and corrugating medium was much bigger than that with itself basis weight distribution ratio of liner and corrugating medium respectively in both DW and SW. md the FSI was high as more total basis weight was divided into liner. These phenomena fur board combination of corrugated board based on the FEA were well verified by experimental investigation.

In order to evlauate feasibility of the gene tagging by the maize transposable element Ac in heterologous plant systems, we have investigated physical distances and directions of transposition of the element in Arabidopsis thaliana and tobacco cultured cell line BY-2. We prepared a T-DNA construct that carried a non-autonomous derivative of Ac with a site for cleavage by endonuclease I-Scel (designated dAc-I-RS element). Another cleavage site was also introduced into the T-DNA region outside dAc-I-RS. A number of transgenic Arabidopsis plants were generated, each of which had a single copy of the T-DNA at a different chromosomal location. To examine the pattern of transposition, three out of these transgenic plants were crossed with the Arabidopsis plant that carried the gene for Ac transposase and progeny in which dAc-I-RS had been transposed were isolated. After digestion of the genomic DNA of these progeny with I-SceI, sizes of segment of DNA were determined byd pulse-field gel electrophoresis. We also performed linkage analysis for the transposed elements and sites of mutations near the elements. Our results with three transgenic lines showed that 50% of all transposition events had occurred within 1,700 kilo-base pairs (kb) on the same chromosome, with 35% within 200 kb, and that the elements transposed in both directions on the chromosome with roughly equal probability. The data thus indicate that the Ac-Ds system is most useful for tagging of genes that are present within 200 kb of the chromosomal site of Ac in Arabidopsis. In addition, determination of the precise localization of the transposed dAc-I-RS element should definitely assist in map-based cloning of genes around insertion sites. In the present paper, we report typical examples of such gene isolation studies.
In this paper, we perform a study on the directionality of broadband ship radiation noise, mainly resulting from propeller cavitation. By examining a few foreign studies for ship radiation noise and domestic data measured in Korean waters, it is reconfirmed that the asymmetric directionality of the ship radiation noise at bow and stern aspect is observed commonly. In order to explore the reason of this asymmetric directionality, a numerical analysis, based on the acoustic boundary element method, is applied into the geometric form equal to the commercial ship used in the domestic experiment. The numerical result demonstrates that the diffraction of the propeller cavitation noise by ship is a primary cause of the bow-stern asymmetry in the directionality of ship radiation noise.
The behavior of shear-wall dominant, low-rise, multistory reinforced concrete building structures is investigated. Because there are no beams or columns and the slab and wall thicknesses are approximately equal, available codes give little information relative to design for gravity and lateral loads. Items which effect the analysis of shear-wall dominant building structures, i.e., material nonlinearity including rotating crack capability, 3-D behavior, slab-wall interaction, floor flexibilities, stress concentrations around openings, the location and the amount of main discrete reinforcement are investigated. For this purpose 2 and 5 story building structures are modelled. To see the importance of 3-D modelling, the same structures are modelled by both 2-D and 3-D models. Loads are applied first the vertical then lateral loads which are static equivalent earthquake loads. The 3-D models of the structures are loaded in both in the longitudinal and transverse directions. A nonlinear isoparametric plate element with arbitrarily places edge nodes is adapted in order to consider the amount and location of the main reinforcement. Finally the importance of 3-D effects including the T-C coupling between walls are indicated.

A novel severe plastic deformation process named half channel angular extrusion (HCAE) is proposed in order to produce bulk UFG materials. In HCAE process, equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) and conventional forward extrusion process is integrated to increase the strain per pass and effectiveness of the SPD process. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was carried out to study the deformation behavior of the materials in the HCAE process. HCAE process was performed experimentally on commercially pure aluminum (AA1050) and micro-Vickers hardness test was used to measure the distribution of hardness on the section of normal to the extrusion direction. The results show that HCAE is able to impose more intensive strains per pass and give rise to higher micro-hardness than ECAE.

Micro molding technology is a promising mass production technology for polymer based microstructures. Mass production technologies such as the micro injection/compression molding, hot embossing, and micro reaction molding are already in use. In the present study, we have developed a numerical analysis system to simulate three-dimensional non-isothermal cavity filling for hot embossing, with a special emphasis on the free surface capturing. Precise free surface capturing has been successfully accomplished with the level set method, which is solved by means of the Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin (RKDG) method. The RKDG method turns out to be excellent from the viewpoint of both numerical stability and accuracy of volume conservation. The Stokes equations are solved by the stabilized finite element method using the equal order tri-linear interpolation function. To prevent possible numerical oscillation in temperature Held we employ the streamline upwind Petrov-Galerkin (SUPG) method. With the developed code we investigated the detailed change of free surface shape in time during the mold filling. In the filling simulation of a simple rectangular cavity with repeating protruded parts, we find out that filling patterns are significantly influenced by the geometric characteristics such as the thickness of base plate and the aspect ratio and pitch of repeating microstructures. The numerical analysis system enables us to understand the basic flow and material deformation taking place during the cavity filling stage in microstructure fabrications.

This investigation is the result of the structural analysis by finite element method for optimal design of the cross beam with circular holes of the electric car-body. in order to install the air pipe and electric wire pipe that correspond signal between electric machines for the control system and to reduce the weight of the electric car-body, several circular areas from a cross beam should be taken off. What we want to perform is the optimal design of a cross beam with circular holes to posses equal stress in comparison with no hole cross beam. first, no hole cross beam as basic modal be chosen, executing the analysis, reviewing the distribution of stress and displacement at each location. several parameter should be adopted from the cross beam geometry like the location and shape of the hole to affect the maximum stress and displacement. So the analysis was executed by finite element analysis for finding optimal design parameter to the change of the location and shape of the circular hole. finally, the optimal design of the cross beam with circular holes was obtained and the maximum equivalent stress was compared with no hole cross beam at each location.
An ($n_1,\;n_2,\;{\ldots},\;n_k$)-colored permutation is a permutation of $n_1+n_2+{\cdots}+n_k$ in which $1,\;2,\;{\ldots},\;n_1$ have color 1, and $n_1+1,\;n_1+2,\;{\ldots},\;n_1+n_2$ have color 2, and so on. We give a bijective proof of Steinhardt's result: the number of colored permutations with no monochromatic cycles is equal to the number of permutations with no fixed points after reordering the first $n_1$ elements, the next $n_2$ element, and so on, in ascending order. We then find the generating function for colored permutations with no monochromatic cycles. As an application we give a new proof of the well known generating function for colored permutations with no fixed colors, also known as multi-derangements.

In this paper, optimum shape design of permanent magnet in slotted type Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PMLSM) is progressed for minimization of detent force owing to structure of slot-teeth and thrust ripple by harmonic magnetic flux of permanent magnet. In order to reduce remodeling time as changing design parameter for Permanent Magnet shape optimization, the moving model node technique was applied. The characteristics of thrust and detent force computed by finite element analysis are acquired equal effect both skewed basic model and optimum model which is optimization of permanent magnet shape. In addition to, thrust per unit volume is improved 4.l2[%] in optimum model.

We discuss the condition that every nonzero right annihilator of an element contains a nonzero ideal, as a generalization of the insertion-of-factors-property. A ring with such condition is called right AP. We prove that a ring R is right AP if and only if Dn(R) is right AP for every n ≥ 2, where Dn(R) is the ring of n by n upper triangular matrices over R whose diagonals are equal. Properties of right AP rings are investigated in relation to nilradicals, prime factor rings and minimal order.
