The object of this paper is to investigate collapse characteristics of CF/Epoxy(Carbon Fiber/Epoxy resin) composite tubes on the change of interlaminar number and fiber orientation angle of outer and to evaluate reappearance of collapse characteristics on the change of tension strength of fibers under static and impact axial compression loads. When a CF/Epoxy composite tube is mushed, static/impact energy is consumed by friction between the loading plate and the splayed fiends of the tube, by fracture of the fibers, matrix and their interface. In general, CF/Epoxy tube with 6 interlaminar number(C-type) absorbed more energy than other tubes(A, B, D-types). The maximum collapse load seemed to increase as the interlaminar number of such tubes increases. The collapse mode depended upon orientation angle of outer of CF/Epoxy tubes and loading status(static/impact). Typical collapse modes of CF/Epoxy tubes are wedge collapse mode, splaying collapse mode and fragmentation collapse mode. The wedge collapse mode was shorn in case of CF/Epoxy tubes with 0$^{\circ}$ orientation angle of outer under static and impact loadings. The splaying collapse mode was shown in only case of CF/Epoxy tubes with 90$^{\circ}$ orientation angie or outer under static loadings, however in impact tests those were collapsed in fragmentation mode. So that CF/Epoxy tube with 6 interlaminar number and 90$^{\circ}$ outer orientation angle presented to the optimal collapse characteristics.
The effect of a multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWNCT) on the adhesive properties and thermal properties of epoxy were studied by double lap-shear tests. Epoxy/MWCNT resins were prepared from a different amount of the MWCNT incorporated into the epoxy resins (araldite 2011). Steel plates and carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) were chosen as materials. Mechanical tests were performed by a universal testing machine (UTM). The analysis of thermal properties were conducted by a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The fracture surface morphology was examined using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscope. Compared to neat epoxy, it was found that the mechanical properties of epoxy/MWCNT resins are increased.
The effects of cure kinetics and mechanism of DGEBA(diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A)/MDA(4,4'-methylene dianiline) with SN(succinonitrile) and HQ(hydroquinone) as an additive and accelerator were investigated. Cure kinetics was evaluated by Kissinger equation and fractional-life method through DSC analysis. The activation energy has hydroxyl group as an accelerator, the activation energy and the starting cure-temperature were lower than those of DGEBA/MDA/SN system. Cure mechanism of those systems was investigated through FT-IR according to the various SN contents. The ratio was SN : HQ = 4 : 1. It has been known that the cure reactions of an epoxy-diamine system are composed of primary amine-epoxy reaction, secondary amino-epoxy reaction and epoxy-hydroxyl group reaction. But in DGEBA/MDA/SN system, primary amino-CN group reaction and CN group-hydroxyl group reaction were added to the above mentioned reactions. These reactions attributed to the long main chain and the low crossliking density. And in DGEBA/MDA/SN/HQ system, hydroxyl group of HQ formed a transition state with epoxide group and amime group and also opened the ring of the epoxide group rapidly, then amino-epoxy reaction took place easily.

This study evaluated the performance of Korean epoxy asphalt mixtures using several laboratory tests. Four types of epoxy asphalt mixtures were manufactured based on 13mm dense graded asphalt mixtures: three Korean and one Japanese epoxy asphalt mixtures where 20% or 40% of asphalt binder was replaced by epoxy resins. Curing time was determined as 3 and 6 hours for the mixtures containing 40% and 20% of epoxy resins, respectively. From the laboratory tests including wheel tracking, indirect tension fatigue, bending beam, and moisture susceptibility tests, it was concluded that the epoxy asphalt mixtures had superior performance than conventional asphalt mixtures except moisture susceptibility. Also, the performance of the Korean epoxy asphalt mixtures was comparable to the Japanese mixtures. Thermal coefficient, bond strength, and indirect tension tests were conducted to examine the applicability of the Korean epoxy asphalt mixtures to concrete repair. Its adhesion was strong enough to be bonded to surrounding concrete materials and its tensile strength was comparable to the concrete, but thermal expansion coefficient was 5 times greater than the surrounding concrete.
In this study, epoxy/anhydride mixing ratio for the highly silica filled compounds with chromium (III) octoate catalyst was investigated at a low curing temperature ($71^{\circ}C$ for 40 hr) by evaluating the compressive strength with the weight ratio ranges from 0.3/1.0 to 1.0/1.0 of epoxy part (Part A)/anhydride part (Part B). In case of epoxy/anhydride compounds used surface unmodified silica by coupling agent, these compounds need excess anhydride unlike the weight ratio in the conventional epoxy/anhydride compounds. In curing behavior, the epoxy/anhydride compounds containing chromium (III) octoate showed high conversions at $71^{\circ}C$ for 40 hr, even if a dipropylene glycol (DPG) was not used as a polymerization initiator. Also, DPG leads to a poor epoxy network structure. In conclusion, the appropriate weight ratio of Part A/Part B of highly silica filled epoxy/anhydride compounds with chromium (III) octoate catalyst is 0.5/1.0 and the maximum amounts of silica is 1470 phr of epoxy resin.
The physical properties of the epoxy resins were studied with an addition of filler content and the application of artificial weathering test. When talc as a filler was added to the epoxy resin (L-30), the water resistance seemed to be increased because of the results of the reducing of water absorption rate and the increasing of contact angle. Although the adhesive strength of epoxy resins was not affected by the increasing amount of talc, its compressive strength was reduced. The physical properties of the epoxy resins had different trends according to the site environments. The artificial weathering test with the change of temperature and humidity showed that the changes of water absorption rate and colour differences of the epoxy resins containing talc were lower than the pure epoxy resin itself. However, the contact angle was higher. The artificial weathering test with ultraviolet irradiations showed the opposite result; the damage of epoxy resins was increased with the increasing of talc content. These mean the site environment of the stone monuments should be considered to determine the content of talc added to increase the durability of epoxy resin.

We have been fabricated Thin-walled carbon nanotubes (TWNTs)/amine epoxy additives composite using Eco-friendly solvent system such as supercritical process and dry mixed process. TWNTs/amine epoxy additives composite has used as a curing agent for urethane based bisphenol A type epoxy resin. The thermo-mechanical property of the epoxy resin cured by TWNTs/amine epoxy additives composite is characterized by dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) and dispersability of the nanotubes in the epoxy matrix is also confirmed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). As a results, the epoxy resin cured by TWNTs/amine epoxy additives composite with supercritical process shows enhanced dispersability of the TWNTs in the matrix and thermo-mechanical property when compare to dry mixed process.
The moisture absorption properties such as diffusion coefficient and moisture content ratio of liquid type epoxy resin systems with the filler were investigated. Bisphenol A type and Bisphenol F type epoxy resin, Kayahard MCD as hardener and 2-methylimidazole as catalyst were used in these epoxy resin systems. The nano-sized spherical type fused silica as filler were used in order to study the moisture absorption properties of these liquid type epoxy encapsulant according to the change of filler size. The temperature of glass transition (Tg) of these epoxy resin systems was measured using Dynamic Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), and the moisture absorption properties of these epoxy resin systems according to the change of time were observed at $85^{\circ}C$ and 85% relative humidity condition using a thermo-hygrostat. The diffusion coefficients in these systems were calculated in terms of modified Crank equation based on Ficks' law. An increase of Tg and diffusion coefficient with filler size in these systems can be observed, which are attributed to the increase of free volume with Tg. The change of maximum moisture absorption ratio according to the filler size and filler content cannot be observed; however, the diffusion coefficients of these systems decreased with filler content. The diffusion via free volume is dominant in the epoxy resin systems with low nano-sized filler content; however, the diffusion with the interaction of absorption according the increase of the filler surface area is dominant in the liquid type epoxy encapsulant with high nano-sized filler content.
A molded transformer is maintenance-free, which makes it unnecessary to replace the insulating material, like in an oil-filled transformer, because the epoxy, which is a molded insulating resin, does not suffer variations in its insulating performance for heat cycles over a long time, as compared to insulating oil. In spite of these advantages, a molded transformer may still be accessed by the user, which is not good in regards to reliability or noise compared to the oil transformers. In particular, a distrust exists regarding reliability due to the long-term insulating performance. These properties have been studied in regards to the improvement of epoxy composites and molded transformer insulation. There have nevertheless been insufficient investigations into the insulation properties of epoxy composites. In this study, it is a researching of the epoxy for insulating material. In order to prepare the specimens, a main resin, a hardener, an accelerator, and a nano/micro filler were used. Varying amounts of TiO2 and ZnO nano fillers were added to the epoxy mixture along with a fixed amount of micro silica. This paper presents the DC insulation breakdown test, thermal expansion coefficient, and thermal conductivity results for the manufactured specimens. From these results, it has been found that the insulating performance of nano/micro epoxy composites is improved as compared to plain molded transformer insulation, and that nano/micro epoxy composites contribute to the reliability and compactness of molded transformers.

Waste tire management and recycling have grown to be significant issues because they bring up a global environmental concern. Thus, turning recycled waste tires into useful products may help tackle the environmental issue. This research aims to study and compare the effect of recycled carbon black (rCB) and commercial carbon black (CB) at certain 15 vol. % of filler loading on the mechanical, thermal, morphology and electrical properties of epoxy/CB composites. For this project, epoxy resin, diethyltoluenediamine (DETDA), recovered carbon black (rCB) and commercial carbon black (CB) graded N330, N550, N660 and N774 were mixed and compared accordingly to the formulation determined. The CB content was dispersed in the epoxy matrix using the mechanical mixing technique. The distribution and dispersion of CB in the epoxy matrix affect the characteristics of the conductive composites. rCB content at 15 vol% was selected at fixed content for comparison purposes due to the optimum value in electrical conductivity results. The flexural strength results followed the sequence of rCB>N774>N660>N550>N330. As for electrical conductivity results, epoxy/N330 exhibited the highest conductivity value, while the others achieved a magnitude of X10-3 due to the highest external surface area of N330. In terms of thermal stability, epoxy/N330 and epoxy/N774 were slightly more stable than epoxy/rCB.
