Effects of extruded pellet and moist pellet on growth performance, body composition, and hematology of juvenile olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus

  • A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of two different sizes of extruded pellets (EP) ($EP_1$ - 3 mm or $EP_2$ - 5 mm) and a moist pellet (MP) in olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, reared in semi-recirculation system. A total of 450 fish with an average initial weight of $5.0{\pm}0.2g$ (mean ${\pm}$ SD) were fed one of the three experimental diets in triplicate groups. At the end of a 6-week feeding trial, weight gain, specific growth rate, and feed efficiency of fish fed EP diets were significantly higher than those of fish fed MP (P < 0.05). Water quality parameters like turbidity, total ammonia nitrogen, and total phosphorous from tanks of fish fed $EP_1$ and $EP_2$ were significantly lower than those from tanks of fish fed MP. Blood plasma glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase and glucose concentration were significantly higher in fish fed MP diet compared to fish fed EP diets (P < 0.05). Whole body crude protein contents in fish fed EP diets were higher than those from the fish fed MP diet. Whole body amino acid content like threonine, aspartic acid, serine, tyrosine, and cystine were found to be significantly higher in fish fed EP diets than those in fish fed MP diet. In considering overall performance of olive flounder, $EP_2$ diet could be recommended for the successful aquaculture of this important fish species.

Effect of Paeonia lactiflora Pall. Seed Extracts and Forsythia viridissima Lindl. Extracts on Antioxidative System and Lipid Peroxidation in Erythrocytes of Rats Fed High-Cholesterol Diet

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidative effects of Paeonia lactiftora Pall. (PL) seed extracts and Forsythia viridissima Lindl. (FVL) extracts on the antioxidative defense system and lipid peroxidation in the erythrocytes of rats fed a high-cholesterol diet. Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 100 10 g were randomly assigned to nine experimental groups and fed 0.5 % cholesterol. The HC group did not receive any supplement, while the MP group was supplemented with 0.1 % methanol extract of PL seed, the MP2 group with 0.2 % methanol extract of PL seed, the EP1 group with 0.05 % ether-soluble fraction of PL seed, the EP2 group with 0.1 % ether-soluble fraction of PL seed, the MS1 group with 0.05 % methanol extract of FVL, the MS2 group with 0.1 % methanol extract of FVL, the ES group with 0.025% ethyl acetate-soluble fraction of FVL, and the ES2 group with 0.05 % ethyl acetate-soluble fraction of FVL. The experimental diets were fed ad libitum for 3 weeks. The erythrocyte SOD activity in the EP1 and EP2 groups increased 38% and 59%, respectively, when compared with the HC group, while the erythrocyte GSHpx activity in the EP1, EP2, and ES2 groups increased 30%, 31 %, and 29%, respectively, when compared with the HC group. The level of erythrocyte TBARS was significantly lower in the MP2, EP1, and EP2 groups than in the HC group, yet the level of serum TBARS was significantly lower in the all supplemented groups than in the HC group. The level of serum HDL- TBARS was significantly lower in the EP1 and EP2 groups than in the HC group, while the level of serum LDL- TBARS was significantly lower in the all the supplemented groups than in the HC group. Accordingly, the results indicated that the PL seed extracts and FVL extracts reduced oxidative damage by activating the antioxidative defense system in the erythrocytes of rats fed a high-cholesterol diet.

표면 연마 방법에 따른 니티놀 잔류응력 분석 (Analysis of residual stress of Nitinol by surface Polishing Method)

  • Nitinol, a shape memory alloy (SMA), is manufactured from titanium and nickel and it used in various fields such as electrical applications, micro sensors. It is also recommended as a material in medical for implant because it has excellent organic compatibility. Nitinol is intended to be inserted into the human body, products require a high-quality surface and low residual stress. To overcome this problems, explore electrolyte polishing (EP) is being explored that may be appropriate for use with nitinol. EP is a particularly useful machining method because, as a non contact machining method, it produces neither machining heat nor internal stress in the machined materials. Sandpaper polishing is also useful machining method because, as a contact machining method, it can easily good surface roughness in the machined materials. The electrolyte polishing (EP) process has an effect of improving the surface roughness as well as the film polishing process, but has a characteristic that the residual stress is hardly generated because the work hardened layer is not formed on the processed surface. The sandpaper polishing process has the effect of improving the surface roughness but the residual stress remains in the surface. We experimented with three conditions of polishing process. First condition is the conventional polishing. Second condition is the electrochemical polishing(EP). And Last condition is a mixing process with the conventional polishing and the EP. Surface roughness and residual stress of the nitinol before a polishing process were $0.474{\mu}mRa$, -45.38MPa. Surface roughness and residual stress of the nitinol after mixing process of the conventional polishing and the EP were $1.071{\mu}mRa$, -143.157MPa. Surface roughness and residual stress of the nitinol after conventional polishing were $0.385{\mu}mRa$ and -205.15MPa. Surface roughness and residual stress of sandpaper and EP nitinol were $1.071{\mu}mRa$, -143.157MPa. The result shows that the EP process is a residual stress free process that eliminates the residual stress on the surface while eliminating the deformed layer remaining on the surface through composite surface machining rather than single surface machining. The EP process can be used for biomaterials such as nitinol and be applied to polishing of wafers and various fields.

Paricalcitol attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation and apoptosis in proximal tubular cells through the prostaglandin E2 receptor EP4

  • Background: Vitamin D is considered to exert a protective effect on various renal diseases but its underlying molecular mechanism remains poorly understood. This study aimed to determine whether paricalcitol attenuates inflammation and apoptosis during lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced renal proximal tubular cell injury through the prostaglandin $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) receptor EP4. Methods: Human renal tubular epithelial (HK-2) cells were pretreated with paricalcitol (2 ng/mL) for 1 hour and exposed to LPS ($1{\mu}g/mL$). The effects of paricalcitol pretreatment in relation to an EP4 blockade using AH-23848 or EP4 small interfering RNA (siRNA) were investigated. Results: The expression of cyclooxygenase-2, $PGE_2$, and EP4 were significantly increased in LPS-exposed HK-2 cells treated with paricalcitol compared with cells exposed to LPS only. Paricalcitol prevented cell death induced by LPS exposure, and the cotreatment of AH-23848 or EP4 siRNA offset these cell-protective effects. The phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of p65 nuclear factor-kappaB ($NF-{\kappa}B$) were decreased and the phosphorylation of Akt was increased in LPS-exposed cells with paricalcitol treatment. AH-23848 or EP4 siRNA inhibited the suppressive effects of paricalcitol on p65 $NF-{\kappa}B$ nuclear translocation and the activation of Akt. The production of proinflammatory cytokines and the number of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling-positive cells were attenuated by paricalcitol in LPS exposed HK-2 cells. The cotreatment with an EP4 antagonist abolished these anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects. Conclusion: EP4 plays a pivotal role in anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects through Akt and $NF-{\kappa}B$ signaling after paricalcitol pretreatment in LPS-induced renal proximal tubule cell injury.

극우 동종정당(Far-Right Party Family) 분류에 기반한 2019년 유럽의회 선거 결과 분석 (Analysis of the 2019 European Parliament Election Results Based on the Far-Right Party Family Classification)

  • 본 연구는 유럽의회 선거에서 극우정당들이 거둔 성과를 논하거나 지지세 추이를 확인하기 위해서 유럽의회 정치그룹이 확보한 의석수를 중심으로 분석하는 기존의 방법을 지양하고, 그 대신 EU 회원국들 국내 정치에서의 극우 동종정당(far-right party family) 분류를 통하여 그들이 유럽의회 선거에서 거둔 의석수를 합산하는 방식으로 분석한다. 이러한 극우 동종정당에 기반한 선거 결과 분석이 필요한 이유는 두 가지이다. 첫째로 유럽의회 선거에서 선출된 극우성향의 유럽의회의원들 중 일부는 극우성향의 정치그룹에 가입하지 않기 때문이며, 둘째로 극우성향으로 분류되는 일부 정치그룹의 경우에 소속 의원들의 성향이 균질하지 않아 오히려 다수는 중도우파성향의 의원들로 구성된 경우도 있기 때문이다. 이러한 문제의식에서 출발한 본 연구는 구체적으로 2019년 유럽의회 선거에서 극우정당이 거둔 성과를 극우 동종정당 분류에 기반하여 분석해 보았다. 그 결과, 유럽의회 정치그룹이 확보한 의석수 중심 분석에 기반하여 극우정당들이 이번 유럽의회 선거에서 그다지 약진하지 못했다는 평가를 내린 서구 주요 언론들의 분석에 명확한 한계가 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 극우 동종정당 분류에 기반한 선거 결과 분석에 따르면, 2019년 유럽의회 선거에서 극우정당들이 확보한 의석수는 선거 전 여론조사 결과를 오히려 크게 상회하는 것으로 나타났음은 물론, 2014년 유럽의회 선거와 비교하더라도 극우정당들의 의석수가 큰 폭으로 증가한 것인 바, 본 연구는 2019년 유럽의회 선거에서 극우정당은 크게 약진했다고 평가하는 것이 타당하다고 주장한다.

Identification of DNA Aptamers toward Epithelial Cell Adhesion Molecule via Cell-SELEX

  • The epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM, also known as CD326) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is specifically detected in most adenocarcinomas and cancer stem cells. In this study, we performed a Cell systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) experiment to isolate the aptamers against EpCAM. After seven round of Cell SELEX, we identified several aptamer candidates. Among the selected aptamers, EP166 specifically binds to cells expressing EpCAM with an equilibrium dissociation constant (Kd) in a micromolar range. On the other hand, it did not bind to negative control cells. Moreover, EP166 binds to J1ES cells, a mouse embryonic stem cell line. Therefore, the isolated aptamers against EpCAM could be used as a stem cell marker or in other applications in both stem cell and cancer studies.

  • 본 연구는 차세대 포탈(EP) 기능의 평가 프레임워크를 지식창출의 관점에서 제시하는데 목표를 두고 있다. 스마트 엔터프라이즈 통합포탈 (SES)과 같은 차세대 상품이 기존의 EP 기능에 협업과 컨텐츠 관리를 통합시킴으로써, EP는 더 이상 정보와 컨텐츠의 단순 통로가 아니게 되었다. EP는 상호 보완적인 정보기술의 통합체로서 거듭나고 있다. 이러한 통합현상의 일반화와 더불어 지식창출의 중요성을 감안한다면 EP기능을 지식창출의 관점에서 평가할 수 있는 기반을 마련하는 것은 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 문헌조사를 통하여 EP 기능의 기본적 요소를 설정하였다. 이를 기반으로 델파이 조사법을 이용하여 각각의 요소를 실증적으로 검증함과 동시에 지식창출 모델에 근거하여 분류하였다. 델파이 조사법에 사용된 전문가 그룹은 엔트루 컨설팅 파트너스에 근무하고 있는 7명의 지식경영 전문 컨설턴트로 구성되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 이론적 모델을 실무와 통합시킴으로써 EP의 평가에 있어서 새로운 비전을 제시하였다고 할 수 있다.

2관능성 에폭시/생분해성 폴리부틸렌 숙시네이트 블렌드의 유변학적 특성 및 경화거동에 관한 연구 (Studies on Rheological Properties and Cure Behaviors of Difunctional Epoxy/Biodegradable Poly(butylene succinate) Blends)

  • 본 실험에서는 2관능성 에폭시 수지(2EP)와 생분해성 poly(butylene succinate)(PBS) 블렌드의 유변학적 특성, 경화거동, 열안정성 그리고 기계적 특성을 살펴보았다. 유변학적 특성은 레오미터를 이용하여 등온 조건 하에서 검토하였고, 겔화시간과 경화 온도를 이용한 Arrhenius 방정식을 적용하여 가교 활성화 에너지($\textrm{E}_c$)를 구하였다. $\textrm{E}_c$는 2EP에 대한 PBS의 비율이 10 wt%로 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. DSC 측정 결과, 경화 활성화 에너지($\textrm{E}_a$)는 $\textrm{E}_c$와 유사만 경향을 나타내었는데 이는 2EP와 PBS 사이의 분자상호작용이 증가하였기 때문으로 사료된다. 그리고 열안정성과 관련하이 분해 활성화에너지($\textrm{E}_t$)는 Horowitz-Metzger식을 이용한 적분법을 사용하여 구하였는데 PBS 10 wt%에서 증가하였다. 그리고 20 wt% PBS일 때 가장 높은 임계응력세기 인자를 보이는데, 이는 2EP/PBS 블렌드 시스템의 파괴인성이 증가하였기 때문으로 사료된다.

Influence of Bromocriptine on Release of Norepinephrine and Epinephrine Evoked by Cholinergic Stimulation from the Rat Adrenal Medulla

  • The present study was conducted to examine the effects of cholinergic stimulation and membrane depolarization on secretion of epinephrine (EP) and norepinephrine (NE) in the perfused model of the rat adrenal gland and to investigate the effect of bromocriptine on secretion of EP and NE evoked by these secreta-gogues. Acetylcholine (ACh, 5.32 mM), high $K^{+}$(56mM), 1.1-dimethyl-4-phenyl piperazinium iodide (DMPP, 100 $\mu$M for 2 min), (3-(m-cholro-phenyl-carbamoyl-oxy)-2butynyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (McN-A-343, 100 $\mu$M for 2 min), cyclopiazonic acid (10 $\mu$M for 4 min) and methyl-1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-3-nitro-4-(2-trifluoromethylphenyl) -pyridine-5-carboxylate (Bay-K-8644, 10 $\mu$M for 4 min) evoked a 1.3~5.3-fold greater secretion of EP than NE in the perfused rat adrenal gland. The perfusion of bromocriptine (1-10 $\mu$M) into an adrenal vein for 20 min produced relatively dose-dependent inhibition in secretion of EP and NE evoked by ACh, high $K^{+}$, DMPP, and McN-A-343. Moreover, under the presence of bromocriptine (1~10 $\mu$M), releasing responses of EP and NE evoked by cyclopiazonic acid and Bay-K-8644 were also greatly reduced. Taken together, these results suggest that cholinergic stimulation and membrane depolarization enhance more release of EP than NE in the perfumed rat adrenal medulla, and that bromocriptine inhibits the release of EP and NE evoked by stimulation of cholinergic receptors as well as by membrane depolarization. It seems that this inhibitory effect of bromocriptine is associated with inhibition of calcium channels through activation of dopaminergic D2-receptors located in the rat adrenomedullary chromaffin cells.lls.

EPS의 거동 예측 모델에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Modelling for the Prediction of the Behaviour of EPS)

  • 초 경량재인 E.P.S(20~30kg/m3)를 성토재로 사용하여 부족한 지지력과 침하에 대한 안정 성을 확보하는 방법이 최근 많이 사용되고 있다. 국내에서는 1993년 인천의 연약지반상 교대 됫채움재로 이 공법이 처음 사용된 이래 점차 활용이 늘어나고 있는 실정이다. 그러나 아직까지 EPS를 성토 재료로 사용한 지반에서 EPS의 거동을 예측하기 위한 합리적인 수치해석 모델이 제시되어 있지 않고 일축압축강도 및 크리프시험 결과에 따른 설계강도만이 제안되어 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 성토재료로 사용된 EPS의 수치해석 모델을 제시하기 위하여 성토재로 사용되는 여러 종류 밀도의 EPS에 대해 구속압을 변화시키면서 삼축압축시험을 실시하였다. 삼축압축시험 결과를 분석하여 EPS의 축방향 변형률-응력 관계와 이의 도함수 그리고 포아송비를 밀도와 구속압에 의한 함수식으로 나타낼 수 있었다. 이 관계로부터 EPS의 거동을 예측하기 위한 비선형모델을 제안하였다.
