This study is intended to examine an effectiveness of STS module concerning food waste, 'Even if food waste is the money, would you throw it away', in the areas of affective domains related to science and attitudes towards environmental problems. For this study, one group of 142 seventh graders attending 'L' middle school in Iksan city, Jeonrabukdo received 8 class hours with this module. Their affective domains related to science and attitudes towards environmental problems were measured by pre- and post-test design in a single group. In addition, their views on STS instruction was also analyzed. Results are as follows. Students in the transition period who had been taught with this module showed that they had a statistically significant effectiveness in interests related to science, scientific attitudes and execution towards environmental problems(p<.05). Students taught with this module had a positive views on the STS instructional methods or contents. It was also shown that their recognition or behavior towards environmental problems have been changed positively.
In Korea, no CRA (comparative risk analysis) studies have been undertaken, nor have their methodologies of such studies been established. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to establish the framework of CRA consisting of health risk, economic risk and perceived risk, and to estimate and compare these risks among the three environmental problems of air pollution, indoor air pollution and drinking water contamination, which are themselves subject to the eight sub -problems of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), regulated pollutants (representative as PM 10) and dioxins (PCDDs/PCDFs) in air pollution, indoor air pollutants (IAPs) and radon in indoor air pollution, and drinking water pollutants (DWPs), disinfection by -products (DBPs) and radionuclides in drinking water contamination in Seoul, Korea. After which, the priorities of these problems were set by individual and integrated risk. From the results, the rankings of both health risk and economical risk were in the following order: radon, PM10, IAPs, HAPs, DWPs, dioxins, DBPs, and radionuclides among the eight sub problems. On the contrary, the ranking of perceived risk was in the following order: HAPs, dioxins, radionuclides, PM10, DWPs, IAPs, Radon and then DBPs among the eight sub-problems.
The present study is to investigate the middle school students' worldview and consciousness about the environment. To conduct this study, 605 students from the two middle schools of Daegu metropolitan area, seventh grade, were measured using a modified version of New Environmental Paradigm (NEP) instrument and qustionnaire of environmental consciousness. The results are as follows: First, a majority of middle school students held an ecological environmental worldview. They also had a similar environmental worldview to education experience on environment-related to subjects. The strongest area of agreement with the NEP were in the "Negative results of growth and technology." The weakest area of agreement with the NEP were in the "Quality of life" dimension with only 44.9 percent agreement across that dimension's four statements. Second, the middle school students are sensible of consciousness in environmental problems. They pointed out that air pollution and noise are the most as sever problems in country and local area, respectively. Finally, the subjects who showed the higher environmental worldview had a higher environmental consciousness and better attitudes related to environmental problems.
As the concern with the creation of environmental problems and regulations about them becomes internationally growing, environmental cooperations with countries concerned are emerging as the first item on the political agenda. In case of South Korea, cooperations with countries in the Asian region is needed urgently. In particular, cooperations with North Korea will be an important factor to reunify the Korean peninsula as well as to solve environmental problems in South Korea. Accordingly, it is necessary to seek feasible alternatives and possibilities of coping with international environment in South and North Korea. This study is limited to literature study based on collecting materials and the testimony of former residents in North Korea. The period of study ranges from May to December in 1992. The research findings show the following environmental problems and alternatives : It is recognized in South Korea that the creation of environmental problems is product of economic development. Currently, the Korean government makes an effort to revise environmental administration and law, to encourage environmental education, and to proceed with environmental technology policies by establishing environmental policies together with economic development plans. North Korea ascribes the cause of environmental problems to colonial exploitation by Japan and the U.S. Environmental pollutants in North Korea is relatively less than South Korea, provisions such as environmental conservation movement, environmental education, and environmental administration and law are not well organized in the country. However, North korea will speed up its economic development to solve economic crises. Therefore, it is expected that industrial wastes, corrosion of nature, and water pollution will result in serious environmental problems. The fields expected to cooperate with South and North Korea are in the following : South Korea may adopt the model of the former East and West Germany and proceed to cooperate with North Korea in public sector as well as private sector. The possible programs are such as academic exchange to conserve environment, joint research in the area of the Demilitarized Zone, conservation of ecosystems around Imjin and Pukhan Rivers, South Korea's support of advanced environmental technology and industrial and financial aid to North Korea. Conflicts between countries concerned in the North East Asian region will be caused by the responsibilities of pollutions because of the seashore development of the Yellow Sea by South Korea and increasing seashore industrial complexes around the Yellow Sea in China, Therefore, it is desirable that the two countries will participate in organizations related to environment. Joint projects between South and North Korea will be as follows : 1. Construction of long-range monitoring system : 2. Investigation of the state of pollutions around the Yellow Sea and alternatives : 3. Construction of joint monitoring system to regulate the movement of pollutants : 4. Cooperation of environmental technology and exchange of information ; and 5. Support of Cooperation of environment in private sector. Efforts to cooperate with North korea is expected to overcome differences between the two countries as well as to encourage unification of the korean peninsula, which will lead to reducing the cost of environmental recovery. These efforts will also contribute to the maintenance for peace and stability on the korean peninsula as well as in the North East Asian region.
This study was designed to find answers for the two questions that had been raised in the study of Lee and Fortner(2000): 1) How can the appropriateness of classification of environmental issues by perceived certainty and tangibility be improved? and 2) How are perceived certainty, tangibility, significance of environmental issues and willingness to act to solve those problems related to each other? A questionnaire consisted of 40 questions was administered to 144 college students. Results of the study revealed that classification through cluster analysis appeared to be more appropriate and credible than classification by mean scores or medians. Four major factors were found to have high positive correlations to each other as hypothesized. These results imply for environmental educators that people's attitude toward and behavior on environmental problems are likely to be more strongly and meaningfully associated with their perceptions of those problems that are subjective and flexible than physical or chemical characteristics of the problems that are frequently considered as objective.

In Korea, there is no CRA studies and has not well known CRA and not well established their methodologies. Therefore, objectives of this study is to establish the framework of CRA consisting of health risk, economic risk and perceived risk and the detail methodologies of three main component of estimating and comparing those risks for on the three environmental problems of air pollution, indoor air pollution and drinking water contamination which being subjective to the eight sub-problems of hazardous ai. pollutants (HAPs), regulated pollutants (representative as PM10) and Dioxins (PCDDS/ PCDFs) in air pollution, and indoor ai. pollutants (IAPs) and Radon in indoor air pollution, and drinking water pollutants (DWPs), disinfection-by- products(DBPs) and radionuclides in drinking water contamination in Seoul, Korea. And then, their problems set priorities by individual and integrated risk. As a results, ranking of health risk were the following order of indoor air pollution, air pollution and then drinking water contamination, in three environmental problems and of radon, PM10, IAPs, HAPs, DWPs, Dioxins, DBPs, and then radionuclides in eight sub-problems. And that of economic risk were the same order. In the contrary, ranking of perceived risk were the following order of air pollution, drinking water contamination, and then indoor air pollution, and of HAPs, Dioxins, radionuclides, PM10, DWPs, IAPs, Radon and then DBPs.
Mathematics has been usually recognized as value-neutral and anti-ideological subject, and as a result, it has not dealt with environmental problems clearly. Also, it is not easy to find any environment-related contents in the 7th mathematics curriculum. However, because mathematics is also precious human products and essence, in any ways there is a need to reflect the social issues in the mathematics subject which speak for human mental activities. If this need is admitted to change the mathematics contents to the direction of social issues, environmental problems can stand out and be dealt in the mathematics education. Among the 6 domains in the 7th mathematics curriculum, the environmental problems can be dealt with in the domains of ‘numbers and operation’, ‘letters and formulas’, ‘regularity and function’, ‘chances and statistics’, ‘measurement’ except in the domain of ‘diagrams’. Also, the '문장제들' which takes up a considerable part of mathematics textbooks needs the authentic situation, and thus it will be possible to take environmental situations as mathematical materials. Furthermore, one of the 7th mathematics curriculum is that it suggested further study in each level of each domain, the representative pattern of which is the application of the mathemantics contents to the daily life. With this kind of mathematics further study contents, environmental problems can provide a variety of contents for the further study. From this viewpoint, it can be expected that the contents of environmental education will be increased in the mathematics subject. Under the recognition that the mathematics subject cannot be an exception in considering environmental problems, this study has studied some concrete plans and examples for how the mathematics textbooks based on the 7th educational curriculum can deal with environmental Problems.

Background: As self-employed workers are vulnerable to health problems, this study aimed to analyze mental health problems and sleep disturbances among self-employed workers compared with paid workers in Korea. Methods: A total of 34,750 workers (23,938 paid workers and 10,812 self-employed workers) were analyzed from the fifth Korean Working Condition Survey, which included 50,205 households collected by stratified sampling in 2017. To compare mental health problems and sleep disturbance among self-employed workers and paid workers, multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. Results: The odds ratio in self-employed workers compared with paid workers was 1.25 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.09-1.42) for anxiety, 1.11 (95% CI: 1.04-1.17) for overall fatigue, 1.11 (95% CI: 1.04-1.20) for difficulty falling asleep, 1.10 (95% CI: 1.02-1.18) for difficulty maintaining sleep and 1.24 (95% CI: 1.16-1.32) for extreme fatigue after waking up. Conclusions: Self-employed workers in Korea have a higher risk of self-reported mental health problems and sleep disturbances than paid workers. Further studies with a longitudinal design and structured evaluation are required to investigate the causal relationship between health problems and self-employment.
Residents Participation in Environmental Problems is essential for achieving better environmental. But, the Residents Participation in Korea is lack of popularity and still be situated in the level of only problem raises and protests afterwards. Public Environmental Education necessary for Residents Participation, is not a pratical education, because the education in the government side be performed mostly for the government employees and the environmental experts. To encourage the Residents Participation in Environmental Problems, the decision procedure of the environmental policies should by opened, and pratical movements. To enhance the Public Environmental Education, the NGOs' programs and mass-media campaign for environment should be enlarged and supported by the government.
This research reviews the current state of the environmental problems in Northeastern Asia and emphasizes the necessity of building a sustainable regime of multilateral environmental cooperation. The Process and problems of multilateral environmental cooperation system are briefly discussed. This research stresses the importance of contractual environment that enhances the level of enforcement of international environmental agreement. Within the contractual environment, international regimes can support the parties of conference to build up administrative capacity and scientific technology to cope with transborder pollution problems. Some policy proposals such as cooperation among central governments and local governments, and the participation of NGOs are suggested.
