초등학교 $3{\sim}4$학년 차세대 과학 교과서 체제 개발 연구 (Developing an Innovative Framework of Grade $3{\sim}4$ Science Textbooks)

  • To respond to the announcement of the revised version of science curriculum early this year, it has been necessary to develop new science textbooks which can be appropriate and effective to achieve the goals of the revised curriculum. The system of new textbooks needs to embrace the concerns of cognitive development in scientific knowledge, skills, and attitudes as well as social and cultural demands in the rapidly changing society. To develop an innovative framework of science textbooks, we examined previous studies on textbook analysis in Korea and analyzed science textbooks in the United States, Singapore, and Japan. We analyzed various ways of introducing and developing conceptual knowledge, leading scientific inquiry skills and process, enhancing scientific attitudes toward science, technology, society and the environment in those science textbooks. In the process of framing the structures of textbooks, we focused on ways of increasing educational effects of visualized texts, leaners' interest, user-friendly procedure, scientific inquiry, effectiveness of hands-on activities, scientific reading and writing skills, and usage of workbook. Based on those aspects and analyses of textbooks, we attempted to propose a feasible framework of Grade $3{\sim}4$ Science textbook which can effectively respond to the educational changes and demands in the local and global society.

7차와 2007 개정 과학교육과정에 따른 초등학교 과학 교과서의 읽기자료 분석 (Analysis of the Reading Materials in Elementary School Science Textbooks Developed under the 7th and the 2007 Revised National Science Curricula)

  • In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the reading materials in the elementary school science textbooks in order to obtain implications for the effective use of them. The reading materials in the elementary school science textbooks developed under the 7th and the 2007 revised National Science Curricula were analyzed. The criteria for classifying the reading materials were the type of theme, purpose, students' activity, the type of presentation, the type of images, the role of images, and readability. The results indicated that the reading materials in the 2007 revised science textbooks are more systematic than those in the 7th science textbooks in terms of their length and their distribution among energy, matter, life, and earth areas. It was also found that various types of reading materials are presented in the 2007 revised science textbooks covering new themes such as frontier science, job opportunity and career, and environment. In addition, the reading materials in the 2007 revised science textbooks introduce more visual images and the readability of them are also better than their counterpart. However, several limitations were still found to exist in the reading materials of the 2007 revised textbooks; most of them are non-inquiry and explanatory; most of the visual images are illustration and/or pictures. Educational implications are discussed.

2009개정 기술·가정교육과정 '소비생활' 영역의 내용 연계성 분석 (Analysis of the Content Connectivity of the 2009 Revised Technology & Home Economics Curriculum 'Consumption' Area)

  • This study analyzed contents of 12 kinds of middle school technology Home Economics(1) textbooks, 9 high school Technology Home Economics textbooks and 2 high school home science textbooks based on the 5 areas and 9 subject areas of 'Understanding of market and consumer', 'Reasonable consumption', 'Resolution and prevention of consumer problems', 'Formation of desirable consumption culture', 'Career and occupation related to consumption life' for the purpose of analyzing connectivity of contents in the area of 'consumption life' in the Technology Home Economics curriculum revised in 2009, and analyzed connectivity of contents on the basis of 'developed', 'repeated', 'different' and 'reduced' based on the results of analysis on the contents of the textbooks. Analysis results show that middle school Technology Home Economics(1) textbooks are mainly dealing with problems related to consumption life and ways to practice healthy consumption life, high school Technology Home Economics textbooks emphasized understanding of consumption culture in modern life and practice and method of sustainable consumption life, and high school home science textbooks contain overall contents of household financial management and consumption life. In general, contents were distributed as 'developed' 11 times (32.4%), 'repeated' 6 times (17.6%), 'reduced' 13 times (38.2%), 'different' 4 times (11.8%). Contents of the majority of textbooks are composed suitable for the curriculum achievement standard, but connectivity of 'developed' cannot be considered a desirable type of connectivity. various formation plans as suggested shall be devised not to let learning elements of 'consumption life' area discontinued considering school levels and achievement standard of curriculum.

Empirical Analysis of Learning Effectiveness in u-Learning Environment with Digital Textbook

  • The purpose of this study is to present innovative approaches for u-Learning environment in public education with Digital Textbook. The Korean Government has been making efforts to introduce the u-Learning environment to maximize the learning effect in public education with Digital Textbook. However, there are only a few studies that analyze the effectiveness of u-Learning environment and Digital Textbook. This paper reviews the current status of u-Learning environment in Korea and analyzes the satisfaction level with Digital Textbooks. The first survey regarding technological factors was collected from 197 students. The results of the survey revealed that the level of satisfaction has declined over a year. The weakness of the study is that the sample frame is insufficient and survey questions did not reflect diverse factors of learning effectiveness. To supplement these shortcomings, 2,226 students were asked about learning performance. The results of the survey showed that the satisfaction with Digital Textbooks is much higher than that of paper textbooks. However, this paper is limited to u-Learning environments in public education. Therefore, research needs to be improved by reflecting both public and private sectors of education in following studies. This paper suggests useful guidelines to educators in improving their u-Learning environment.

지속가능성 교육으로서 초등학교 환경교육 체계화 연구 (A Study on the Systematizing Environmental Course for Sustainable Education in the Elementary School)

  • Environmental education as worldwide sustainable education is effective when it is carried out as early as possible. But we do not have any aims and textbooks for environmental education in the elementary school. The purpose of this study is systematizing environmental syllabus as sustainable education. To achieve this purpose, firstly, the meaning of environmental education as sustainable education was conceptualized, secondly, the aims of environmental education was set up, thirdly, domains of environmental education was revised, and lastly, the syllabus for environmental instruction were created for each grade. Literature review was practiced over 143 textbooks and teacher's guidebooks from the 4th to 7th curriculum period. The result of this study follows. First, environmental education as sustainable education in the elementary school was conceptualized as an integrative education to keep the lifelong education and welfare. Second, the synthetic aim of environmental education as sustainable education in the elementary school was set up as 'cultivating desirable environmental people that behave for the sustainable future with environment-friendly value and attitude. Third, our environmental domains were divided into 11-12 independent areas, and ESSD (Environmentally Sound and Sustainable Development) was located on the subcategory of environmental domain. These domains were revised into three environmental domains and five sub-domains. Fourth, according to the aims of environmental education as sustainable education and five environmental domains, 253 objectives were established. Fifth, objectives of environmental education of 10 subject matters and integrative objectives were presented. Sixth, based on the objectives of domains and subject matters, 255 contents for environmental education in the elementary school were abstracted and distributed to each grade in the consideration of balance among domains and appropriateness of grades. Seventh, analytic results of textbooks of 7th curriculum shows heavy stress on the 'knowledge perception' section and deficiency on the altitudes and behavior section. The environment-related level and contents overlapped and fragmented deeply. Furthermore, 33 parts of textbooks could bring to mis-concept on environment.

고등학교 1학년 영어교과서의 과업활동 자료 분석 (An analysis of task-based materials in first-grade high school English textbooks)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the aspects of task-based materials in high school English textbooks for first year students in Korea. Based on the theoretical backgrounds for designing communicative tasks and the basic contents of the 7th national curriculum for English, a total of six different qualitative evaluation categories of task-based materials are constructed. The six categories include input data, settings, activity types, language skills, activity themes, and communicative functions. The results of the data analysis showed that the regulations of the 7th national English curriculum, which were aimed at improving the students' communicative abilities, were properly reflected in the materials of task-based activities of all textbooks. On the other hand, a few problems were found in some textbooks: too many individual tasks; being out of proportion in presenting task types and themes; non-systematic introduction of language skills, etc. To conclude, a few suggestions are made to provide some meaningful considerations for the text material developers in order to produce better textbooks in the future: task goals and rationale that encourage the learner's positive motivation; authenticity of input data based on the real-world context; a collaborative learning environment that enhances communicative interaction; a proportional representation of the various activity types including creative problem-solving procedures; systematic introduction of integrated language skills, etc.

중국의 고급중학교 지리교과서 내용체계와 정합성 (The Organization and Coherence of the Geography Experimental Textbooks in Chinese Senior Secondary Schools)

  • 중국 교육부는 2003년 '보통고중지리과정표준(실험)'을 공포하여 고급중학교 지리교육의 '내용표준'을 통한 개혁을 꾀하고 있다. 지리교과서는 교육과정에서 목적하는 바를 명시적, 암묵적으로 반영하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 최근 중국 고등학교 지리교육의 변화를 살펴보기 위해 중국의 새 교육과정에 의거한 보통고급중학교 지리실험교과서 10종의 구성형식과 내용체계 및 필수과목과 선택과목들 간의 내용 정합성을 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 분석대상 교과서는 '학습주제는 풍부하고 다양하게 제시하되 그 내용은 축소'하고 4가지 유형의 탐구활동과 문제연구를 본문 텍스트로 구성함으로써, 학습자가 살고 있는 생활세계에서 지리적 지식을 능동적으로 탐구할 수 있도록 교과서 내용을 조직하였다. 필수과목과 선택과목들 간의 내용은 각 과목들 간의 학습영역의 다양화를 통해 유기적으로 서로 정합하고 있으나, 인구, 자원, 환경, 지속가능한 발전의 4가지 기본개념의 조화와 균형은 과목에 따라 불균형하게 나타났다.

2015 개정 교육과정 통합과학 교과서의 과학의 본성(NOS) 분석 (Analysis of the Nature of Science (NOS) in Integrated Science Textbooks of the 2015 Revised Curriculum)

  • 본 연구에서는 2015 개정 교육과정 고등학교 통합과학 교과서에 나타난 과학의 본성(NOS) 분포를 분석하였다. 분석 대상은 2015 개정 교육과정으로 출판된 통합과학 교과서 5종 모두를 분석하였으며, 분석의 개념적 틀로는 과학적 소양 기반 4가지 영역의 과학의 본성(NOS)(Lee, 2013)을 활용하였다. 4가지 영역의 과학의 본성(NOS)은 1. 과학지식의 본성(nature of scientific knowledge), 2. 과학적 탐구의 본성(nature of scientific inquiry), 3. 과학적 사고의 본성(nature of scientific thinking), 그리고 4. 과학과 기술 및 사회의 상호작용의 본성(nature of interactions among science, technology, and society)이다. 분석은 2명의 분석자가 수행하였으며, 두 분석자간의 신뢰도는 Cohen's kappa 계수 0.83 ~ 0.96으로 비교적 높은 신뢰도 값을 나타냈다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2015 개정 교육과정 통합과학 교과서에서는 과학의 본성(NOS) 4가지 측면 중에서 '과학탐구의 본성(nature of scientific inquiry)' 영역을 전반적으로 가장 강조하고 있었다. 이것은 통합과학 교과서 5개 출판사 전체 영역에서 '과학 탐구의 본성(범주 II)'의 분포가 평균 약 44 %로 나타나는 것에서 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 2015 개정 교육과정 통합과학 교과서는 출판사에 상관없이 '과학탐구의 본성(범주 II)'을 가장 강조하고 있었지만, 그외 다른 측면의 과학의 본성(NOS) 부분은 출판사별로 다소 차이가 나타나고 있었다. 따라서 통합과학 교과서들은 과학적 내용과 활동을 탐구하는 방법으로서 주로 제시하면서 출판사별로 다소 다르게 과학의 본성(NOS) 특징을 강조하고 있다고 말할 수 있다. 셋째, 2015 개정 교육과정 통합과학 교과서에서 강조하는 과학의 본성(NOS) 측면은 4. 환경과 에너지 단원을 제외하고 모든 단원에서 유사하게 나타났다. 이것은 과학의 본성(NOS) 단원별 분석 결과가 대부분의 단원에서 전체 교과서 분석 결과와 유사한 양상이었으며, 4. 환경과 에너지 단원에서만 범주 II의 '과학 탐구의 본성' 영역 다음으로 '과학-기술-사회와 상호작용하는 과학의 본성(STS)(범주 IV)'이 강조되고 있는 것에서 확인할 수 있다. 이와 같은 결과는 2015 개정 교육과정 통합 과학 교과서가 지난 교육과정에 비하여 비교적 다양하고 균형 있는 과학의 본성(NOS) 측면을 제시하고 있으며, 2015 개정 교육과정의 목표인 과학적 문제해결력과 창의력 증진을 위하여 과학적 탐구를 강조를 하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

한국과 미국의 교과서 체제 비교분석 (Experimental Analysis of Korean and CPMP Textbooks: A Comparative Study)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 미국의 개정 교과서(reform curriculum) 중 하나인 CPMP 교과서 (코스1-코스3)와 한국의 교과서(중3-고2)를 사전에 설정한 비교 준거를 토대로 비교분석하여 두 교과서 및 교수 학습 환경에서의 차이점을 토대로 한국의 수학과 교육과정 및 수학 교과서의 질적 수준을 향상시킬 수 있는 요인을 찾아보는 데 있다. 비교 준거는 두 교과서의 구성상의 특징인 내용의 위계 및 지도계열의 설정, 수업의 방법적 접근 방법, 교수 학습 환경으로 설정하였다. 연구 결과, 한국의 교과서는 수학의 구조 또는 계통성, 수학 내적 연결망을 강조하여 수학의 구조를 효율적으로 전달할 수 있는 교수 방법에 맞게 구성되어 있고, CPMP 교과서는 수학의 계통성과 더불어 수학외적 연결망과 통합 연결망을 강조하여 학생들이 수학적 개념을 보다 다양한 맥락 속에서 탐구 활동을 통하여 학습할 수 있도록 구성되었다. 또, 한국 교과서의 경우 엄격한 개념의 일반화를 중요하게 여겨 논리적이고 형식적인 내용 전개 과정을 강조한 반면, CPMP 교과서는 비형식적 사고 과정 또는 직관을 중요하게 여겨 실생활 소재를 포함한 다양한 맥락 속에서 수학적 개념의 탐구와 문제 해결을 보다 강조하였다. 각 교과서가 사용되는 교수 학습 환경은 한국의 경우 주로 유의미 설명 방법으로 수업이 진행되었고 보조 학습 도구로 교구 및 학습지가 활용되었다. 반면, CPMP 교과서를 사용하는 교실에서는 학생들의 의사소통 활동을 강조한 모둠 활동과 그래픽 계산기의 사용이 강조되었다.

초등학교 저학년 교과서의 성교육 내용분석 (Analysis of Sexuality Content in Textbooks for Students in Lower Grades of Elementary School)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a sexuality education course of study for students in the lower grades of elementary school. Method: On the basis of the sexuality education guidebook for elementary school students published by Korea Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development, the state-designated textbooks for first to third grade were analyzed. Results: 1) In the category of physical and psychological development, physical development and psychosexual development content were covered, but not sexual health content. 2) In the category of understanding of human relationship, marriage and family, and the opposite sex and love were presented but self-determination and selection were only partially presented. 3) In the category of sexual culture and sexual ethics, sexual role in society was covered, but not social environment or equality of the sexes. Conclusion: These results suggest that content on sexuality which is not covered in textbooks for students in lower grades should be included in other school courses or activities in class.
