  • In this paper, a compact planar ultra wideband (UWB, 3.1~10.6GHz) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is proposed. This antenna consists of two monopole planar UWB antennas and T-shaped stub decoupling between two antennas. The T-shaped stub improve the isolation characteristic at the wide band. The evolution strategy(ES) algorithm is employed to optimized design. As a result, optimized antenna has a return loss less than -10dB and the isolation less than -15dB from 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz. During the optimization process, the antenna gain is enhanced at lower band and the envelope correlation coefficient(ECC) is lower than 0.003.

  • In this study, seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete buildings using the pushover and incremental dynamic analysis method was investigated. A numerical study was performed for a reinforced concrete frame building. Pushover analysis according to uniform and triangular load shapes and incremental dynamic analyses were performed for selected building. For the nonlinear analysis, three ground motion records were selected to ensure compatibility with the design spectrum defined in the Turkish Seismic Code. The maximum response, dynamic pushover curve, capacity curves, interstorey drifts and moment rotation curves for various element ends of the selected building were obtained. Results were compared each other and good correlation was obtained between the dynamic analyses envelope with static pushover curves for the building.

  • Mechanical properties of degraded materials must be measured for evaluating the integrity of the facilities operating at high temperature. In fact it is complicated to obtain the different degraded specimens from an operating facility. Specimens of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel prepared by the isothermal heat treatment at $700^{\circ}C$ were tested, which has been widely used as tubes for heat exchangers and as plates for pressure vessels. The magnetic properties and Rockwell hardness (HRB) were measured at room temperature. The peak interval of Barkhausen noise envelope (PIBNE), coercivity, and hardness decreased with the increase of degradation. The magnetic and mechanical softening of matrix is likely to govern the properties of the specimen more than the hardening of grain boundary by carbide precipitations. The degradation of test material may be determined by the linear correlation of PIBNE and HRB. Degradation of 1Cr-0.5Mo steel could well be nondestructively evaluated by PIBNE measured with surface type probe.

  • In this paper, a headset multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) antenna for on-body application is proposed and the antenna performance with body effect and the impact on human body are investigated. The proposed MIMO antenna is composed of two planar inverted-F antennas(PIFA) above ground plane and an isolator located between the two antennas enhance the isolation characteristic. Simulation was carried to analyze the effect of human body on antenna performance when a human body is located in the near field of the antenna. According to the measurement result, the diversity performance of the proposed antenna can be considered good since ECC(Envelope Correlation Coefficient), which commonly indicates the performance of a MIMO antenna, remains below 0.1 over the ISM band. The measured SAR values for antennas 1 and 2 are 0.575 W/kg and 0.571 W/kg, respectively when 250 mW input power in engaged. These values satisfy the FCC guideline which states that the 1-g average SAR should be lower than 1.6 W/kg.

  • Bearing is an essential component in many rotary machineries. To prevent its unpredicted failures and undesired downtime cost, many researches have been made in the field of Prognostics and Health Management(PHM), in which the key issue is to establish a proper feature reflecting its current health state properly at the early stage. However, conventional features have shown some limitations that make them less useful for early diagnostics and prognostics because it tends to increase abruptly at the end of life. This paper proposes a new feature extraction method using the envelope analysis and weighted sum with correlation coefficient. The developed method is demonstrated using the IMS bearing data given by NASA Ames Prognostics Data Repository. Results by the proposed feature are compared with those by conventional approach.

  • We design, fabricate, and measure a MIMO antenna system mountable on a small PCB (such as UMPC). The proposed antenna system accommodates three radiation elements on the PCB area of $40mm\;{\times}\;100mm$. Two of them employ a slot type and one uses a modified monopole with an inverted L shape expecting high isolation and polarization purity. The bandwidth of each proposed MIMO antenna ranges from 80MHz and 200MHz at the center frequency of 1.8 GHz. The isolations between ports have been found to be greater than 10dB over the interested frequency band. Besides, the proposed MIMO system has been evaluated in terms of ARC(Active Reflection Coefficient, TARC(Total ARC), correlation, MEG, and etc. The envelope correlation is calculated to be much less than 0.04 and the ratio of the mean effective gain(MEG) between the antennas is found to be close to unity.

  • In this paper, a small internal antenna for a mobile handset is presented using multiband, wideband, and high-isolation multiple-input multiple-output techniques. The proposed antenna consists of three planar inverted-F antennas (PIFAs) that operate in the global system for mobile communication (GSM900), the digital communication system (DCS), the personal communication system (PCS), the universal mobile telecommunication system (UMTS), and wireless local area network (WLAN) bands with a physical size of $40mm{\times}10mm{\times}10mm$. A resonator attached to the folded PIFA creates dual resonances, achieving a wide bandwidth of approximately 460 MHz, covering the DCS, PCS, and UMTS bands; a meander shorting line is used to improve impedance matching. Additionally, a modified neutralization link is embedded between diversity antennas to enhance isolation, which results in a 6-dB improvement in the isolation and less than 0.1 in the envelope correlation coefficient evaluated from the far-field radiation patterns. Simulation and measurements demonstrate very similar results for S-parameters and radiation patterns. Peak gains show 3.73 dBi, 3.77 dBi, 3.28 dBi, 2.15 dBi, and 5.86 dBi, and antenna efficiencies show 56.15%, 72.15%, 68.59%, 52.92%, and 82.93% for GSM900, DCS, PCS, UMTS, and WLAN bands, respectively.

  • In this paper we design MIMO antenna with high isolation between antennas by using an isolation aid for WLAN. Two dual-band PIFAs which operates IEEE 802.11n are arranged symmetrically along the central axis of antenna frame and ground plane. By inserting an isolation aid between two PIFAs the isolation is improved maximum 5dB and 7dB for 2.4GHz band and 5GHz band respectively. Total efficiency is above 60%. ECC is below 0.1.
