The estimation of block erection work time at a dock is one of the important factors when establishing or managing the total shipbuilding schedule. In order to predict the work time, it is a natural approach that the existing block erection data would be used to solve the problem. Generally the work time per unit is the product of coefficient value, quantity, and product value. Previously, the work time per unit is determined statistically by unit load data. However, we estimate the work time per unit through work time coefficient value from series ships using machine learning. In machine learning, the outcome depends mainly on how the training data is organized. Therefore, in this study, we use 'Feature Engineering' to determine which one should be used as features, and to check their influence on the result. In order to get the coefficient value of each block, we try to solve this problem through the Ensemble learning methods which is actively used nowadays. Among the many techniques of Ensemble learning, the final model is constructed by Stacking Ensemble techniques, consisting of the existing Ensemble models (Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boost, Square Loss Gradient Boost, XG Boost), and the accuracy is maximized by selecting three candidates among all models. Finally, the results of this study are verified by the predicted total work time for one ship among the same series.

Predicting path loss is one of the important factors for wireless network design, such as selecting the installation location of base stations in cellular networks. In the past, path loss values were measured through numerous field tests to determine the optimal installation location of the base station, which has the disadvantage of taking a lot of time to measure. To solve this problem, in this study, we propose a path loss prediction method based on machine learning (ML). In particular, an ensemble learning approach is applied to improve the path loss prediction performance. Bootstrap dataset was utilized to obtain models with different hyperparameter configurations, and the final model was built by ensembling these models. We evaluated and compared the performance of the proposed ensemble-based path loss prediction method with various ML-based methods using publicly available path loss datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing methods and can predict the path loss values accurately.
The problem of underwater target detection and classification has been attracted a substantial amount of attention and studied from many researchers for both military and non-military purposes. The difficulty is complicate due to various environmental conditions. In this paper, we study classifier ensemble methods for active sonar target classification to improve the classification performance. In general, classifier ensemble method is useful for classifiers whose variances relatively large such as decision trees and neural networks. Bagging, Random selection samples, Random subspace and Rotation forest are selected as classifier ensemble methods. Using the four ensemble methods based on 31 neural network classifiers, the classification tests were carried out and performances were compared.

This paper describes a visual object detection approach utilizing ensemble based machine learning. Object detection methods employing 1D features have the benefit of fast calculation speed. However, for real image with complex background, detection accuracy and performance are degraded. In this paper, we propose an ensemble learning algorithm that combines a 1D feature classifier and 2D DNF (Disjunctive Normal Form) classifier to improve the object detection performance in a single input image. Also, to improve the computing efficiency and accuracy, we propose a feature selecting method to reduce the computing time and ensemble algorithm by combining the 1D features and 2D DNF features. In the verification experiments, we selected the Haar-like feature as the 1D image descriptor, and demonstrated the performance of the algorithm on a few datasets such as face and vehicle.

This study delves into methods for enhancing the power efficiency of air compressor systems, with the primary objective of significantly impacting industrial energy consumption and environmental preservation. The paper scrutinizes Shinhan Airro Co., Ltd.'s power efficiency optimization technology and employs machine learning ensemble models to simulate power efficiency optimization. The results indicate that Shinhan Airro's optimization system led to a notable 23.5% increase in power efficiency. Nonetheless, the study's simulations, utilizing machine learning ensemble techniques, reveal the potential for a further 51.3% increase in power efficiency. By continually exploring and advancing these methodologies, this research introduces a practical approach for identifying optimization points through data-driven simulations using machine learning ensembles.

Timely and accurate diagnosis of lung diseases using Chest X-ray images has been gained much attention from the computer vision and medical imaging communities. Although previous studies have presented the capability of deep convolutional neural networks by achieving competitive binary classification results, their models were seemingly unreliable to effectively distinguish multiple disease groups using a large number of x-ray images. In this paper, we aim to build an advanced approach, so-called Ensemble Knowledge Distillation (EKD), to significantly boost the classification accuracies, compared to traditional KD methods by distilling knowledge from a cumbersome teacher model into an ensemble of lightweight student models with parallel branches trained with ground truth labels. Therefore, learning features at different branches of the student models could enable the network to learn diverse patterns and improve the qualify of final predictions through an ensemble learning solution. Although we observed that experiments on the well-established ChestX-ray14 dataset showed the classification improvements of traditional KD compared to the base transfer learning approach, the EKD performance would be expected to potentially enhance classification accuracy and model generalization, especially in situations of the imbalanced dataset and the interdependency of 14 weakly annotated thorax diseases.
This study estimated land prices using instance-based learning. A k-nearest neighbor method was utilized among various instance-based learning methods, and the 10 distance metrics including Euclidean distance were calculated in k-nearest neighbor estimation. One distance metric prediction which shows the best predictive performance would be normally chosen as final estimate out of 10 distance metric predictions. In contrast to this practice, an ensemble technique which combines multiple predictions to obtain better performance was applied in this study. We applied the gradient boosting algorithm, a sort of residual-fitting model to our data in ensemble combining. Sales price data of farm lands in Haenam-gun, Jeolla Province were used to demonstrate advantages of instance-based learning as well as an ensemble technique. The result showed that the ensemble prediction was more accurate than previous 10 distance metric predictions.

An ensemble of classifiers is to employ a set of individually trained classifiers and combine their predictions. It has been found that in most cases the ensembles produce more accurate predictions than the base classifiers. Combining outputs from multiple classifiers, known as ensemble learning, is one of the standard and most important techniques for improving classification accuracy in machine learning. An ensemble of classifiers is efficient only if the individual classifiers make decisions as diverse as possible. Bagging is the most popular method of ensemble learning to generate a diverse set of classifiers. Diversity in bagging is obtained by using different training sets. The different training data subsets are randomly drawn with replacement from the entire training dataset. The random subspace method is an ensemble construction technique using different attribute subsets. In the random subspace, the training dataset is also modified as in bagging. However, this modification is performed in the feature space. Bagging and random subspace are quite well known and popular ensemble algorithms. However, few studies have dealt with the integration of bagging and random subspace using SVM Classifiers, though there is a great potential for useful applications in this area. The focus of this paper is to propose methods for improving SVM performance using hybrid ensemble strategy for bankruptcy prediction. This paper applies the proposed ensemble model to the bankruptcy prediction problem using a real data set from Korean companies.

Predicting the compressive strength of high-performance concrete (HPC) is challenging because of the use of additional cementitious materials; thus, the development of improved predictive models is essential. The purpose of this study was to develop an HPC compressive-strength prediction model using an ensemble machine-learning method of combined bagging and stacking techniques. The result is a new ensemble technique that integrates the existing ensemble methods of bagging and stacking to solve the problems of a single machine-learning model and improve the prediction performance of the model. The nonlinear regression, support vector machine, artificial neural network, and Gaussian process regression approaches were used as single machine-learning methods and bagging and stacking techniques as ensemble machine-learning methods. As a result, the model of the proposed method showed improved accuracy results compared with single machine-learning models, an individual bagging technique model, and a stacking technique model. This was confirmed through a comparison of four representative performance indicators, verifying the effectiveness of the method.
Ensemble classification is to utilize multiple classifiers instead of using a single classifier. Recently ensemble classifiers have attracted much attention in data mining community. Ensemble learning techniques has been proved to be very useful for improving the prediction accuracy. Bagging, boosting and random subspace are the most popular ensemble methods. In random subspace, each base classifier is trained on a randomly chosen feature subspace of the original feature space. The outputs of different base classifiers are aggregated together usually by a simple majority vote. In this study, we applied the random subspace method to the bankruptcy problem. Moreover, we proposed a method for optimizing the random subspace ensemble. The genetic algorithm was used to optimize classifier subset of random subspace ensemble for bankruptcy prediction. This paper applied the proposed genetic algorithm based random subspace ensemble model to the bankruptcy prediction problem using a real data set and compared it with other models. Experimental results showed the proposed model outperformed the other models.
