  • The internet allows the information to flow at anywhere in anytime easily. Unfortunately, the network also becomes a great tool for the criminals to operate cybercrimes such as identity theft. To prevent the issue, using a very complex password is not a very encouraging method. Alternatively, keystroke dynamics helps the user to solve the problem. Keystroke dynamics is the information of timing details when a user presses a key or releases a key. A machine can learn a user typing behavior from the information integrate with a proper machine learning algorithm. In this paper, we have proposed mini-batch ensemble (MIBE) method which does the preprocessing on the original dataset and then produces multiple mini batches in the end. The mini batches are then trained by a machine learning algorithm. From the experimental result, we have shown the improvement of the performance for each base algorithm.

  • Conical vortices on roof corners of a prismatic low-rise building have been investigated by using the PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) technique. The Reynolds number based on the free stream velocity and model height was $5.3{\times}10^3$. Mean and instantaneous vector fields for velocity, vorticity, and turbulent kinetic energy were measured at two vertical planes and for two different flow angles of $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$. The measurements provided a clear view of the complex flow structures on roof corners such as a pair of counter rotating conical vortices, secondary vortices, and tertiary vortices. They also enabled accurate and easy measurement of the size of vortices. Additionally, we could easily locate the centers of the vortices from the ensemble averaged velocity fields. It was observed that the flow angle of a $30^{\circ}$ produces a higher level of vorticity and turbulent kinetic energy in one of the pair of vortices than does the $45^{\circ}$ flow angle.

  • In 3D ultrasound color Doppler imaging (CDI), 8-16 pulse transmissions (ensembles) per each scanline are used for effective clutter rejection and flow estimation, but it yields a low volume acquisition rate. In this paper, we have evaluated three flow estimation methods: autoregression (AR), eigendecomposition (ED), and autocorrelation combined with adaptive clutter rejection (AC-ACR) for a small ensemble size (E=4). The performance of AR, ED and AC-ACR methods was compared using 2D and 3D in vivo data acquired under different clutter conditions (common carotid artery, kidney and liver). To evaluate the effectiveness of three methods, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated. For 2D kidney in vivo data, the AC-ACR method outperforms the AR and ED methods in terms of the area under the ROC curve (AUC) (0.852 vs. 0.793 and 0.813, respectively). Similarly, the AC-ACR method shows higher AUC values for 2D liver in vivo data compared to the AR and ED methods (0.855 vs. 0.807 and 0.823, respectively). For the common carotid artery data, the AR provides higher AUC values, but it suffers from biased estimates. For 3D in vivo data acquired from a kidney transplant patient, the AC-ACR with E=4 provides an AUC value of 0.799. These in vivo experiment results indicate that the AC-ACR method can provide more robust flow estimates compared to the AR and ED methods with a small ensemble size.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a stochastic continuous storage function model for enhancement of an event-oriented watershed and channel storage function models which have been used as an official flood forecast model in Korea. For this study, soil moisture accounting component is added to the original storage function model and each hydrologic component, such as surface flow, subsurface flow, groundwater flow and actual evaportranspiration, is simulated as a function of soil water content. And also, ensemble Kalman filtering technique is used for real-time assimilation of measured streamflow from various stream locations in the watershed. Therefore the enhanced model will be able to simulate hydrologic components for long-term period without additional estimation of model parameters and to give more accurate and reliable results than those from the existing deterministic model due to the assimilation of measured streamflow data.

  • The flame speed may be decomposed into the burning speed and the flame transport speed. The flame transport speed is affected considerably by the flow direction, variation rate of flow direction, and flow speed in the combustion chamber. Especially, the flow direction and the variation rate of flow direction at the spark plug location during the ignition period have an important effect on the ignition process and the early flame propagation process. We measured the flow direction component and the variation rate of flow direction with a hot wire probe at the spark plug location. It was shown that the representative flow direction of ignition period is the right-vertical direction of crank shaft and it was used to investigate the variation rate of flow direction.

  • An increase in the frequency and intensity of both floods and droughts has been recently observed due to an increase in climate variability. Especially, land-use change associated with industrial structure and urbanization has led to an imbalance between water supply and demand, acting as a constraint in water resource management. Accurate rainfall-runoff analysis plays a critical role in evaluating water availability in the water budget analysis. This study aimed to explore various continuous rainfall-runoff models over the Soyanggang dam watershed. Moreover, the ensemble modeling framework combining multiple models was introduced to present scenarios on streamflow considering uncertainties. In the ensemble modeling framework, rainfall-runoff models with fewer parameters are generally preferred for effective regionalization. In this study, more than 40 continuous rainfall-runoff models were applied to the Soyanggang dam watershed, and nine rainfall-runoff models were primarily selected using different goodness-of-fit measures. This study confirmed that the ensemble model showed better performance than the individual model over different flow regimes.

  • This study presents the measurement techniques on the periodic fluctuating flow such as the discharge flow of a centrifugal impeller in unstable operating region. During rotating stall, the flow at the exit of a centrifugal compressor impeller fluctuates periodically with lower frequency than that of the blade passing. To observe the blade-to-blade flow characteristics during rotating stall, the phases of all the sampled data sets should be adjusted to those of the reference signals with two processes, in these processes, DPLEAT (Double Phase-Locked Ensemble Averaging Technique) can be used. From these measurement and data processing techniques, the characteristics not only on the blade-to-blade flow with high frequency, but also on the periodic rotating stall flow with low frequency at the centrifugal impeller exit can be clearly observed.

  • Accurate predictions about the water quality of a river have great importance in identifying in-stream flow and water supply requirements and solving relevant environmental problems. In this study, the effect of water release from upstream dam on the downstream water quality has been investigated by applying a hydological model combined with QUAL2E to Geum River basin. The ESP (Ensemble Stream Prediction) method, which has been validated and verified by lots of researchers, was used to predict reservoir and tributary inflow. The input parameters for a combined model to predict both hydrological characteristics and water quality were identified and optimized. In order to verify the model performance, the simulated result at Gongju station, located at the downstream from Daecheong Dam, has been compared with measured data in 2008. As a result, it was found that the proposed model simulates well the values of BOD, T-N, and T-P with an acceptable reliability.
