국내 동물원의 동물복지 평가에 관한 기초 연구 (A basic study on the animal welfare evaluation in Korean zoos)

  • The concept about zoo is changing from the animal exhibition which simply contained the animals to the ecological zoo which has the function of preserving the animal species. At the central point of maintaining such role, the basic principle called the animal welfare lies obviously. Korea has applied the animal welfare principles such as carrying out the enrichment in the zoos since 2003, but there has not been any institutional device to evaluate and examine the application of the animal welfare so far. This study aims to confirm the level of animal welfare in Korea and suggest a developmental direction. For the purpose of the study, 12 zoos in Korea were evaluated according to 68 evaluating categories. 'Five Principles of Animal Welfare' in the Secretary of State's Standards of Modern Zoo Practice were selected and carried out as the evaluation categories, and the result, from the highest to lowest score given, was 'provision of food and water', 'provision of protection from fear and distress', 'provision of health care', 'provision of an opportunity to express most normal behaviours', and 'provision of a suitable enrichment' with the overall score of the entire Korean zoos being 2.86 (${\pm}$ 0.56). It was also confirmed that in order to improve the animal welfare of the Korean zoos, the animal management system must be standardized and organized. The evaluation and feedback, the active practice of animal welfare and its legislative support should be provided to establish an effective institutional device as well.

  • 우리의 환경(環境) 중(中)에서 난분해성(難分解性) 공해물질(公害物質) TCAB의 미생물(微生物)에 의(依)한 분해(分解) 가능성(可能性)을 연구(硏究)하기 위하여 enrichment technique에 의하여 4종(種)의 미생물(微生物)을 분리(分離)하였다. 이들 균주(菌株)들은 Achromobactor group VD, Pseudomonas alcaligenes, Moraxella spp., 그리고 Alcaligenes faecalis로 각각 동정(同定)되었다. 또한 이들 미생물(微生物)들은 $MM_2$ 무기배지(無機培地)에서 TCAB를 유일(唯一)한 탄소원(炭素源)으로 이용(利用)하였다.

Depth Profiles of Heavy Metals in the Surface Sediments of $H^{o}edong$ Reservoir

  • We investigated the depth profiles of heavy metals in the surface sediments at Heedong reservoir in Pusan. Sampling was done at the intervals of 50 m of drift along the water channel into the reservoir. All samples were analyzed with an ICP-AES. We determined the content of Zn, Pb, Cd, Mn, Cu, Cr, and Fe. The overall mean content of these heavy metals were observed to $(2.9\pm1.2){\times}10^{-3},\;(1.3\pm0.7){\times}10^{-3},$ $(1.9\pm2.1){\times}10^{-4},$ $(2.3\pm1.1){\times}10^{-2},\;(1.6\pm1.0){\times}10^{-3},\;and\;(4.5\pm2.6){\times}10^{-4}$ ppm/ppmFe, respectively excluding iron data. Mean contents of Cu show an increasing trend toward the surface of sediments, while those of Cd show a decreasing trend, and those of Pb and Cr are relatively stable. Comparing with the contents of heavy metals in soils at two sites of Kumjeong mountain, enrichment factors of heavy metals in the surface sediments were determined. Among heavy metals we investigated, copper showed the largest value of enrichment factor. Considering the maximum content of heavy metals in the surface sediment, the values of enrichment factors of Cu, Cd and Cr were significant, which were 22, 8.1 and 4.0, respectively. In leaching experiment, it appeared that Pb, Cd, Cr, and Fe in sediments were hardly leached out into water, We also examined the effect of pH on the content of heavy metals.

  • 산소부화 조건의 $CH_4/O_2/N_2$ 화염에서 트리플루오르메탄의 영향을 조사하기 위해 1기압에서 자유롭게 전파하는 예혼합 화염에 대한 수치해석을 수행하였다. 트리플루오르메탄은 화염속도 감소에 기여하며, 감소의 크기는 화학적 효과보다 물리적 효과에 의해 더 크다. 트리플루오르메탄은 산소부화된 $CH_4/O_2/N_2$ 화염에서 더 많이 첨가되고 소비될 수 있다. 트리플루오르메탄은 주로 $CF_3{\rightarrow}CF_2{\rightarrow}CF{\rightarrow}CF:O{\rightarrow}CO$을 통해 분해되고, 산소부화 화염에서 $CHF_3+M{\rightarrow}CF_2+HF+M$이 중요한 역할을 한다. 억제제가 산소 부화 화염에 첨가함에 따라 활성기 최대 농도의 위치는 상대적으로 낮은 온도로 이동하고, OH의 순생성률은 H의 순생성률보다 높다.

투과증발법을 이용한 감귤 Essence Aroma 모델액의 농축 (Concentration of Citrus Essence Aroma Model Solution by Pervaporation)

  • 본 연구는 투과증발법을 이용하여 수용액 중 미량의 감귤 향 성분을 농축하는 방법으로, 4종류의 실록산계 고분자 복합막을 이용하여 막 종류와 구조에 따른 투과 특성을 살펴보았다. 또한 최적의 막을 선정하여 공급액의 온도와 농도, 순환 유속에 따른 투과 특성을 살펴보고, 이를 resistance-in series model을 이용하여 해석하였다. 4종류의 실록산계 고분자 복합막을 통한 감귤 essence aroma 모델액의 투과 실험에서 지지층이 polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)이고 활성층이 polyoctylmethyl siloxane (POMS)인 막이 가장 높은 향 성분 플럭스와 농축계수 값을 나타내었으며, 공급액의 온도와 농도, 순환유속을 변화시키며 투과 실험을 하였다. 그 결과 공급액의 온도와 농도가 증가됨에 따라 향성분의 플럭스는 증가하고 농축계수 값은 감소하였으며 순환유속이 증가됨에 따라 향성분의 플럭스와 농축계수 값 모두 증가하였다.

작물의 생장정보 계측 및 생육제어에 관한 연구 I. 탄산가스 제어 알고리즘 개발 (On-line Measurement and Control of Plant Growth I. Development of $\textrm{CO}_2$ Control Algorithm)

  • Carbon dioxide enrichment for greenhouse crops has generally been a standard commercial practice for many years. Vegetable crops such as tomato, cucumber, and lettuce respond positively to the $CO_2$ enrichment. But improper $CO_2$ enrichment leads to physiological damage and economical loss. This study was carried out to develop a $CO_2$ concentration control algorithm considering growth stage and efficiency. The measurand was $CO_2$ consumption rate and top fresh weight that represents growth stage. The weight of top fresh lettuce as a whole in the tray was measured through a non-destructive method. The demand in $CO_2$ concentration according to growth stage was investigated. The results are summarized as follows. 1. The $CO_2$ consumption rate could be measured within the error of $\pm$ 15.4mg$CO_2$/hr in the range of $CO_2$ concentration of 500-1500ppm. 2. The weight of top fresh lettuce could be measured within the error $\pm$ 4.3g in the range of 0-1400g. 3. The $CO_2$ control model developed could determine an economical $CO_2$ supply rate considering $CO_2$ consumption rate and leakage rate. 4. The $CO_2$ control algorithm based on the control model was composed of feedforward control for maintaining a stable $CO_2$ concentration level, and feedback control with $CO_2$ consumption rate and top fresh weight for adapting to the change in $CO_2$ demand by growth stage. 5. For the performance test with the developed control algorithm on lettuce the decrease in $CO_2$ supply rate was obtained without a significant decrease in top fresh weight.

통계지표를 활용한 부산지역 조선소 주변 토양 내 중금속 오염조사 연구 (A Geo-statistical Assessment of Heavy Metal Pollution in the Soil Around a Ship Building Yard in Busan, Korea)

  • 다양한 산업분야에서 중금속의 사용이 증가할수록, 중금속으로 인한 환경오염과 생물학적 위해성에 대한 우려의 목소리가 커지고 있다. 통계 지수는 배경농도 값과의 비교를 통해 중금속 오염농도를 정규화 시킴으로써 토양 오염의 정도를 수치화하고, 단계 별로 오염 정도를 판단 할 수 있어 많이 사용된다. 본 연구에서는 농축인자(Enrichment factor, EF), 축적 계수(accumulation index), 잠재적 생물학적 위험 지표(potential ecological risk index)등을 이용하여 중공업 근처 토양 내 중금속 오염가능성을 평가하였다. 연구결과, 중금속의 오염 정도는 정부 가이드라인에 비하여 낮은 수준이었으나, 특정 위치에서 아연, 구리, 납 등의 중금속 오염이 관찰 되었다. 농축인자, 축적계수, 생물학적 위험 지표를 통해 일부 토양 내 중금속 오염이 우려할 수준이며, 주변에 존재하는 인위적 오염원에 의한 오염가능성이 있음을 확인하였다. 연구대상지의 추가 시료채취 및 추정되는 오염원의 시료 확보 후, 동위원소 분석 및 x-ray 기반 분석을 통해 오염원 추적연구가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

Novel Discovery of LINE-1 in a Korean Individual by a Target Enrichment Method

  • Long interspersed element-1 (LINE-1 or L1) is an autonomous retrotransposon, which is capable of inserting into a new region of genome. Previous studies have reported that these elements lead to genomic variations and altered functions by affecting gene expression and genetic networks. Mounting evidence strongly indicates that genetic diseases or various cancers can occur as a result of retrotransposition events that involve L1s. Therefore, the development of methodologies to study the structural variations and interpersonal insertion polymorphisms by L1 element-associated changes in an individual genome is invaluable. In this study, we applied a systematic approach to identify human-specific L1s (i.e., L1Hs) through the bioinformatics analysis of high-throughput next-generation sequencing data. We identified 525 candidates that could be inferred to carry non-reference L1Hs in a Korean individual genome (KPGP9). Among them, we randomly selected 40 candidates and validated that approximately 92.5% of non-reference L1Hs were inserted into a KPGP9 genome. In addition, unlike conventional methods, our relatively simple and expedited approach was highly reproducible in confirming the L1 insertions. Taken together, our findings strongly support that the identification of non-reference L1Hs by our novel target enrichment method demonstrates its future application to genomic variation studies on the risk of cancer and genetic disorders.

수정된 선택적 확장 기법을 이용한 불연속 요소의 효율적 해석 (Efficient Analysis of Discontinuous Elements Using a Modified Selective Enrichment Technique)

  • Non-conforming mesh를 이용해 구조적인 불연속성을 해석 시 요소 내 함수 불연속성과 특이점이 존재하며, 이로 인해 계산의 효율성이 저하된다. 본 연구에서는 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 모멘트 피팅법을 응용한 선택적 확장기법(Duster and Allix, 2020)을 토대로 새로운 고효율 확장 기법을 제시하였다. 특히, 적분과정에서의 비효율성에 초점을 두고 두가지 개선 방안을 제안하고 이를 수치 예제를 통해 검증하였다. 첫째로 음함수-모멘트간 효율적 계산을 위해 인공신경망을 도입하였으며, 기존 확장 기법에 비해 해의 정확성이 유지되면서도 효율적인 계산이 가능함을 확인하였다. 더불어, 구조 해석과 형상 표상용 격자를 분리, 낮은 밀도의 구조 해석 격자에서도 정확성이 향상되었음을 보였다.
