A Study on Enhancing the Demand for Non-Timber Forest Products : Focused on Consumer Research of Foods Processed from Jujube

  • While jujubes are mainly sold in dried forms as wholesome foods, sacrificial food and so on, processed foods from jujube are neither highly recognized nor in high demand. Hence, this study has proposed ways to enhance the demand for jujube processed foods and will help prepare the ground for efficient marketing strategies, based on the survey result on the pattern in which customers in Korea purchase jujube-processed foods. The conclusion for this study has been derived by researching the relevant literature and analyzing the relevant company data and customer survey results. The study implies the following points regarding enhancing the demand for jujube-processed foods. First, long-term solutions are necessary. These may include establishing a technological system that can produce various foods processed from jujubes, and improving the customer accessibility in accordance with the changes in the retail environment. To implement these solutions, it is necessary to familiarize the customers with jujube-processed foods by securing a good sales network and through active promotion and advertising. Second, systematic marketing strategies are needed, which may be applied in developing the products as well as distribution and promotion methods and prices that correspond with the changes in the customer environment and the different tastes for various age, gender and residential area groups.

  • 수요 반응은 전력망의 신뢰성을 높이고 비용을 최소화하기 위해 수요가 가장 많은 시간대에 고객이 소비패턴을 조정하도록 유도한다. 재생 에너지원을 스마트 그리드에 통합하는 것은 간헐적이고 예측할 수 없는 특성으로 인해 상당한 도전 과제를 안고 있다. 강화 학습 기법과 결합된 수요 대응 전략은 이러한 문제를 해결하고 기존 방식에서는 이러한 종류의 복잡한 요구 사항을 충족하지 못하는 경우 그리드 운영을 최적화할 수 있는 접근 방식으로 부상하고 있다. 본 연구는 재생 에너지 통합을 위한 수요 반응에 강화 학습 알고리즘을 적용하는 방법을 찾아 적용하는데 중점을 둔다. 연구의 핵심 목표는 수요 측 유연성을 최적화하고 재생 에너지 활용도를 개선할 뿐 아니라 그리드 안정성을 강화하고자 한다. 연구 결과는 강화 학습을 기반으로 한 수요 반응 전략이 그리드 유연성을 향상시키고 재생 에너지 통합을 촉진하는 데 효과적이라것을 보여준다.

  • 우리나라의 경우 기존에 시행된 대부분의 도로건설사업이 교통수요의 과다 예측으로 인하여 재정의 낭비를 초래하였다. 이 같은 교통수요 예측 오류 발생의 원인은 여러 가지가 있을 수 있지만 사용된 교통기초자료의 낮은 신뢰성과 기관 간 정보연계 미흡을 주요한 원인으로 꼽을 수있다. 이에 본 연구는 대표적 교통기초자료인 국가교통DB와 수도권 가구통행실태는 향후 추진될 도로건설사업계획 수립에 크게 활용될 것이며 이 자료들도 현재 낮은 신뢰성과 기관 간 정보연계 미흡의 문제가 있으므로 개선이 필요하다는 인식하에서 시도되었으며 도로부문 교통기초자료 구축사업의 문제점을 교통수요 예측 관련 자료를 중심으로 살펴보고 개선방안을 제시하고자 하였다.

보건교사와 초등학교 고학년 학생을 대상으로 한 정신건강교육 실태 및 보호요인 강화 교육 요구도 조사 (Survey Study of Current Status of and Need for Mental Health Education Enhancing Protective Factors in the Elementary Schools)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to survey the current status of mental health education and need for mental health education enhancing protective factors in the elementary schools. Methods: We surveyed 10 school health teachers and 328 fifth- and sixth-grade students using 19- and 20-item questionnaires, respectively. Results: All of the teachers and 65.2% of the students replied that they were either teaching or being taught mental health in school. Topics covered suicide, depression, school violence, and Internet addiction. All of the teachers and 84.1% of the students expressed the need for mental health education enhancing protective factors in school. Both groups replied that two sessions are enough. The teachers preferred role play and discussion as teaching methods, and audiovisual materials and computer as instructional media. The students preferred lecture and role play as teaching methods, and audiovisual materials and smartphone as instructional media. Both groups ranked self-esteem, parent-child relationship, peer relationship, and emotional regulation as the most important topics to be covered in the education. Conclusion: There is a high demand for mental health education enhancing protective factors. Therefore, it is recommended to develop educational programs enhancing protective factors by enabling formal and informal learning using smartphone.

TCP Accelerator for DVB-RCS SATCOM Dynamic Bandwidth Environment with HAIPE

  • A high assurance IP encryption (HAIPE) compliant protocol accelerator is proposed for military networks consisting of red (or classified) networks and black (or unclassified) networks. The boundary between red and black sides is assumed to be protected via a HAIPE device. However, the IP layer encryption introduces challenges for bandwidth on demand satellite communication. The problems experienced by transmission control protocol (TCP) over satellites are well understood: While standard modems (on the black side) employ TCP performance enhancing proxy (PEP) which has been shown to work well, the HAIPE encryption of TCP headers renders the onboard modem's PEP ineffective. This is attributed to the fact that under the bandwidth-on-demand environment, PEP must use traditional TCP mechanisms such as slow start to probe for the available bandwidth of the link (which eliminates the usefulness of the PEP). Most implementations recommend disabling the PEP when a HAIPE device is used. In this paper, we propose a novel solution, namely broadband HAIPE-embeddable satellite communications terminal (BHeST), which utilizes dynamic network performance enhancement algorithms for high latency bandwidth-on-demand satellite links protected by HAIPE. By moving the PEP into the red network and exploiting the explicit congestion notification bypass mechanism allowed by the latest HAIPE standard, we have been able to regain PEP's desired network enhancement that was lost due to HAIPE encryption (even though the idea of deploying PEP at the modem side is not new). Our BHeST solution employs direct video broadcast-return channel service (DVB-RCS), an open standard as a means of providing bandwidth-on-demand satellite links. Another issue we address is the estimation of current satellite bandwidth allocated to a remote terminal which is not available in DVBRCS. Simulation results show that the improvement of our solution over FIX PEP is significant and could reach up to 100%. The improvement over the original TCP is even more (up to 500% for certain configurations).

Factors Impacting Tourism Demand: An Analysis of 10 ASEAN Countries

  • This study investigates the effect of infrastructure, economic sectors and its status, foreign direct investment and private investment, as well as the role of political stability in enhancing the tourism demand in the ASEAN region. The research collected the secondary data from the World Bank database and the UNWTO website of 10 ASEAN countries over 17 years from 2000 to 2016. Applying the generalized method of moments, this research found that, "private investment", "economic sectors", "exchange rate and infrastructure measured by "using of the internet" can increase the tourism demand of a country in the ASEAN region. This research provided evidence indicating that the "foreign direct investment" and "inflation" are two detrimental factors for tourist attraction. The major finding confirmed the positive role of "political stability" in increasing tourist arrivals. First, attracting tourists to a country always poses many challenges to its government. It has been observed in the past decades that though there were many documents, which confirmed that industry can help in promoting tourism, very few studies investigated the role of both agriculture and manufacturing sectors in tourism promotion. Secondly, there are only a few studies which verifies the stability of the political system to the tourism demand in the ASEAN region and that this variable (political stability) has the strongest impact.

벽지노선 대체형 수요응답형교통(DRT) 노선 선정 방안에 관한 연구 - 경상남도 대중교통 열악지역을 대상으로 - (A Study on the Route Selection Method for Demand Response Transport (DRT) Replacement for Bus Services in Vulnerable Areas - Focused on Region Vulnerable to Public Transportation of GyeongSangNam-Do in Korea -)

  • Due to the rapid pace of low fertility and aging of Korea, population decline is rapidly progressing in the outskirts of the province and county. Demand for public transport is decreasing due to suburban population declines, while local government funding for maintenance of the bus system is expected to increase gradually. The government and municipalities are promoting the introduction of Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) in order to reduce the burden of financial support for buses while enhancing mobility of the residents in vulnerable areas. However, most DRTs in Korea have been operated mainly in the areas that are not provided with public transportation services. Although DRT is able to reduce the financial burden of local governments, it is not easy to be introduced because of the objection of the existing bus users. In this study, 11 out of 61 towns with poor public transportation services in Gyeongsangnam-Do were selected for the introduction of DRT to replace bus services by using village characteristics. The results of this study are expected to be used as a basis for decision making to use DRT instead of bus service for the burden of bus financing for local governments.

리튬이온전지 음극의 고속 성능 향상을 위한 도전재 복합화 (Composited Conductive Materials for Enhancing the Ultrafast Performance for Anode in Lithium-Ion Battery)

  • Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are powerful energy storage devices with several advantages, including high energy density, large voltage window, high cycling stability, and eco-friendliness. However, demand for ultrafast charge/discharge performance is increasing, and many improvements are needed in the electrode which contains the carbon-based active material. Among LIB electrode components, the conductive additive plays an important role, connecting the active materials and enhancing charge transfer within the electrode. This impacts electrical and ionic conductivity, electrical resistance, and the density of the electrode. Therefore, to increase ultrafast cycling performance by enhancing the electrical conductivity and density of the electrode, we complexed Ketjen black and graphene and applied conductive agents. This electrode, with the composite conductive additives, exhibited high electrical conductivity (12.11 S/cm), excellent high-rate performance (28.6 mAh/g at current density of 3,000 mA/g), and great long-term cycling stability at high current density (88.7 % after 500 cycles at current density of 3,000 mA/g). This excellent high-rate performance with cycling stability is attributed to the increased electrical conductivity, due to the increased amount of graphene, which has high intrinsic electrical conductivity, and the high density of the electrode.

부하역률 감도기법 적용에 의한 전력시스템의 경제운용 측면에서의 역률개선 방안 연구 (A Study on Enhancing the Load Power Factor from the Point of View of Economic Operation Using the Load Power Factor Sensitivity Method)

  • Various problems such as the increase of the power loss and the voltage instability may often occur in the case of low load power factor. The demand of reactive power increases continuously with the growth of active power and the restructuring of electric power companies makes the integrated management of ractive power a troublesome problem, so that the systematic control of load power factor is required. In this paper, the load power factor sensitivity of the generation cost is used for determining the locations of reactive power compensation devices effectively and for enhancing the load power factor appropriately. In addition, the integrated costs are used for determining the value of the load power factor from the point of view of the economic operation. It is shown through the application to a large-scale power system that the system power factor can be enhanced effectively and appropriately using the load power factor sensitivity and integrated costs.

SVC 설치 운전에 따른 계통의 영향성 평가 (Evaluation of Effects on Power System by Installing the Static Var Compensator)

  • This paper provides the methods for enhancing the stability with normal or emergency operating conditions in real power systems and copes with the unbalance of demand of reactive power due to the loss of facility, such as 765kV transmission line. In this paper, we focused on the maximum allowable transmission power(hereafter, MAXTP) in the metropolitan area. In order to increase the MAXTP, the application of reactive power compensators, SVC, and Shunt compensator and reactor, is analyzed as an enhancing method of stability and MAXTP. Particularly, the f-V analysis was performed for the postulated contingency, in order to evaluate the effects on SVC. Conclusively, the stability of power systems could be enhanced and the MAXTP is increased effectively with Dongseoul SVC which has the capacity 200MVAr.
