  • This paper introduces the design techniques of an IR module using the 2-D array un-cooled type infrared detector which is applied to the individual combat weapon. Considering the size and weight of the hand carried weapon system, we used a very small-sized detector and applied an adaptive temperature control algorithm so that the operation consumed with low power can be possible. We applied the AR(Auto Regressive) filter to improve the signal-to-noise ratio in a thermal image processing step. We also applied the plateau equalization and boundary enhancement techniques to improve the visibility for human visual system.

  • With the need for efficient maintenance technology to reduce maintenance costs for steel bridges, repainting robots are being developed to automate the work in narrow and poor bridge spaces. The repainting robot is equipped with a blasting module to remove paint layers and contaminants. This study developed a prototype monitoring module to be mounted on the repainting robot. The monitoring module analyzes the condition of the painting surface through a camera installed in the front, guides the direction of movement of the robot, and provides the operator with a video to check the working status after blasting through a camera installed in the back. Various image visibility enhancement technologies were applied to the monitoring module to overcome worksite challenges where incomplete lighting and dust occurs.

  • Fog deposition onto the cool-temperate deciduous forest around Lake Mashu in northern Japan was estimated by the inferential method using the parameterizations of deposition velocity and liquid water content of fog (LWC). Two parameterizations of fog deposition velocity derived from field experiments in Europe and numerical simulations using a detailed multi-layer atmosphere-vegetation-soil model were tested. The empirical function between horizontal visibility (VIS) and LWC was applied to produce hourly LWC as an input data for the inferential method. Weekly mean LWC computed from VIS had a good correlation with LWC sampled by an active string-fog collector. By considering the enhancement of fog deposition due to the edge effect, fog deposition calculated by the inferential method using two parameterizations of deposition velocity agreed with that computed from throughfall data. The results indicated that the inferential method using the current parameterizations of deposition velocity and LWC can provide a rough estimation of water input due to fog deposition onto cool-temperature deciduous forests. Limitations of current parameterizations of deposition velocity related to wind speed, evaporation loss of rain and fog droplets intercepted by tree canopies, and leaf area index were discussed.

컬러 영상과 근적외선 영상을 이용한 영상 융합 (Image Fusion using RGB and Near Infrared Image)

  • 근적외선은 눈에 보이는 가시광선 파장 대역을 벗어난 빛으로 일반적인 디지털 카메라에서는 핫미러 필터에 의하여 차단된다. 하지만 근적외선으로부터 얻어지는 정보들은 영상의 전체적인 가시성을 향상시킬 수 있다고 알려져 있기 때문에 영상의 질 개선에 유용한 정보가 될 수 있다. 예를 들어 영상에 안개가 낀 경우, 근적외선은 가시광선보다 안개 입자에 대한 침투성이 더 강하다는 성질을 가지고 있기 때문에 근적외선 카메라로 영상을 촬영하면 일반적인 카메라 영상보다 더 선명한 영상을 얻을 수 있다. 본 논문은 실외 영상의 질을 높이기 위해 컬러 영상과 근적외선 영상을 융합하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 첫 번째로, 본 논문은 컬러 영상과 근적외선 영상의 대비를 비교하여 가중치 맵을 구한다. 그 후, 이 가중치 맵을 이용하여 두 영상을 융합하는 과정을 거치게 된다. 본 논문은 실험 결과들을 통해서 제안하는 알고리즘이 효과적으로 영상의 질을 높이고, 또한 안개를 제거하는 것을 보여준다.

스플릿-스펙트럼 처리의 자동화를 위한 가용대역폭의 결정방법 (The Determination method of Available Bandwidth for Automation of the Split-Spectrum Processing)

  • 이 논문에서는, 스플릿-스펙트럼 처리(split-spectrum processing)의 자동화를 위한 가용대역폭의 결정방법을 연구하였다. SSP는 결정립(grain) 잡음을 갖는 초음파신호의 가시도를 개선하는데 이용된다. SSP가 S/N비를 개선하는 유용한 기술임에도 불구하고 가용대역폭 결정의 모호성 때문에 응용이나 자동화에는 제한이 있었다. 최근까지도 가용대역폭을 최적으로 하기 위해 시행착오 방법에 의존하고 있다. 스펙트럼 히스토그램은 수신된 초음파신호 스펙트럼의 전대역에 걸친 최소화 알고리즘에 의하여 얻어진 스펙트럼 윈도우의 통계적 분포도이다. 가용대역폭은 스펙트럼 히스토그램을 이용하여 적응적으로 결정되기 때문에 SSP의 자동화가 가능하다. 스펙트럼 히스토그램을 이용한 가용대역폭의 결정방법을 조사하기 위해 이 방법을 실험 데이타에 적용하였다. 실험결과, 스펙트럼 히스토그램은 SSP의 가용대역폭의 결정과 자동화를 위한 효율적인 방법임을 알 수 있었다.

저지대의 생태학: 제국의 비가시적 느린 폭력의 재현 (Ecology of the Lowland: The Representation of the Invisible Slow Violence of Empire)

  • Under the inhumane oppression of imperialism, the Third World's political violence has been often represented as an immediate and explosive one with an instant, concentrated visibility. Yet the ecological and psychological exploitation of the Third-World countries by empires, as Rob Nixon insists, shows the relative invisibility of slow violence. This paper is to reveal this slow violence of the marginalized areas symbolized as the lowland. Although Arne Naess' deep ecology promotes the inherent worth of living beings regardless of their instrumental utility to human needs. this paper deals with three postcolonial ecological textbooks which criticize the white-centered deep ecology: Amitav Ghosh's The Glass Palace, Jhumpa Lahiri's The Lowland, and Barbara Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible. Through postcolonial critical study, this paper finds out that all these three works have some themes in common. First, these postcolonial works assume a shape of family saga which is parallel to the slow violence of ecological and psychological plundering of empires in the postcolonial countries. Second, like the mangroves which have a tenacious hold on life, these postcolonial people rather overcome the heterogenic challenge with the sturdy and tough mind than defeated. Third, the native people's ethics of earth functions as the stronghold for their respectable lifestyle in their indigenous historicity. Finally, as a big fat brother, the Americanized globalization or neoliberalism is warned as the neocolonialism which is often shown as the disguised pattern of greenwashing. Namely, the people's self-enhancement is always prior to the imperialistic development or neoliberalism in the postcolonial ecological texts which sharply contrast the native's life consciousness and the empire's development theory.

유방의 유두상 병변의 진단에서 자기공명영상의 역할 (Role of MRI in Diagnostic Evaluation of Papillary Lesions of the Breast)

  • 목적 : 유방의 유두상 병변의 진단에 있어 자기공명영상의 역할에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 대상 및 방법 : 초음파 유도하 핵생검에서 양성 유두상 병변으로 진단된 45예 중 자기공명영상을 시행한 22명의 환자 27예를 대상으로 하였다. 자기공명영상 시행 1-10일 후 절제 생검을 시행하였다. 자기공명영상 소견은 형태학적 기준에서 불규칙하거나 환형 또는 선형 조영증강을 보이거나 조영증강 양상에서 지연기 조영유실을 보이는 경우를 의심스러운 병변으로 분류하였다. 확산강조영상에서 병변의 발견 여부도 알아보았다. 자기공명영상 소견이 절제 생검 결과와 관련이 있는지 알아보았다. 결과 : 핵생검에서 비정형성이 없는 22예의 양성 유두상 병변 중 2예(9%), 비정형성이 있는 5예의 양성 유두상 병변 중 4예(80%)가 절제 생검에서 악성으로 진단되었다. 자기공명영상에서 발견된 18예 중 16예에서 암이 의심되는 소견을 보였으며, 절제 생검에서 양성이 11예(69%), 악성이 5예(31%)였다. 확산강조영상에서 보이는 12예 중 10예가 양성, 2예가 악성으로 진단되었다. 자기공명영상 소견은 절제 생검 결과와 상관이 없었다. 결론 : 핵생검에서 진단된 양성 유두상 병변의 자기공명영상 소견은 대부분(88.9%, 16/18)에서 암이 의심되는 소견을 보여 악성 예측에 도움이 되지 않았으며 자기공명영상에서 위양성 소견을 보이는 병변에 양성 유두상 병변이 포함되어야 할 것이다.

  • Recently, the strategy of the age of limitless competition for existence of manufacturing company appears for the enhancement of productivity through the automatic system, the reduction for the cost for standardization and the decision making process for the information system. Especially the critical success factors in manufacturing company can be summarized for the establishment of production visibility through the production management, material & work-in-process management, the establish of the flexible manufacturing system for the changed order priority and the establish of the quality system for improvement of product and process quality. The existing production management systems supply only simple information about production results on real time, can delay quick decision making. And it can prevent acquiring the information about various customer needs and the communication problems with other systems. In this paper, it will show MES system, a solution for the problems of existing production management systems. And through a case study of D company, it will reveal improvement effect on shipment error using MES system and economic analysis for MES itself.

단일 영상에서 안개 제거 방법을 이용한 객체 검출 알고리즘 개선 (Enhancement of Object Detection using Haze Removal Approach in Single Image)

  • In recent years, with the development of automobile technology, smart system technology that assists safe driving has been developed. A camera is installed on the front and rear of the vehicle as well as on the left and right sides to detect and warn of collision risks and hazards. Beyond the technology of simple black-box recording via cameras, we are developing intelligent systems that combine various computer vision technologies. However, most related studies have been developed to optimize performance in laboratory-like environments that do not take environmental factors such as weather into account. In this paper, we propose a method to detect object by restoring visibility in image with degraded image due to weather factors such as fog. First, the image quality degradation such as fog is detected in a single image, and the image quality is improved by restoring using an intermediate value filter. Then, we used an adaptive feature extraction method that removes unnecessary elements such as noise from the improved image and uses it to recognize objects with only the necessary features. In the proposed method, it is shown that more feature points are extracted than the feature points of the region of interest in the improved image.

Daytime Visibility of Halley's Comet in 1222

  • We reexamine the Goryeosa (History of the Goryeo Dynasty, A.D. 918-1392) account that Halley's Comet was seen during the daytime on September 9, 1222. To verify whether the referenced "daytime" refers to twilight or daylight (i.e., when the Sun is above horizon), we determine the absolute magnitude and heliocentric power-law exponent for Halley's Comet using observations made around the perihelion in 1986 and a formula considering the brightness enhancement by forward-scattering. We then apply the results to estimate the light curve of Halley's Comet in the 1222 event and find that the total visible magnitude could reach a maximum of -1.7 on September 8, one day before the Goryeosa's account. Therefore, we think that Halley's Comet with a coma of -1.7 mag and tail-length of about $20^{\circ}$ was actually observed during the day on September 9 because the observational conditions on that day were so good that Venus was visible in daylight. Furthermore, we think that the event might have been witnessed in the morning sky because the contents of Venus's culmination (occurred around September 9.07 TT) continue on the same day account.
