  • This study concerns with the variation of engineering characteristics of soft ground under embankment treated vertical drains. The derived engineering characteristics can be used in the prediction of increased strength of soft ground treated with vertical drains. The variations of physical properties such as liquid limit, natural water content, void ratio, and dry unit weight, and mechanical properties such as strength, preconsolidation ratio, compressibility are analysed and suggested. The co-relation of physical properties and mechanical properties with installation of vertical drains in soft ground are derived in this study.

  • This article describes the calculation procedure for the dynamic characteristics of a high-pressure labyrinth seal wherein the friction force and rotor whirling force are considered; SFCP, the commercial code developed by Lee and two colleagues, is used in the procedure. The simulation results were reviewed in comparison to those of the experiments provided by Benckert; additionally, the SFCP simulation results were verified using the CFD analysis presented by Toshio Hirano. This calculation procedure may therefore be applied to the dynamic characteristics of the labyrinth seals of high-pressure turbo machinery.

  • There are many methods to test engine emissions depending on the regulations used such as FTP-75(CYS-75) mode, 10-15 mode and ECE-15 mode. Most of these modes consist of transient conditions such as cranking, rapid acceleration or deceleration modes. In this experimental research, the transient characteristics including cranking and accelerating mode in SI engines were studied to compare pure gasoline with methanol-reformulated fuels for performance and exhaust emissions. The results show that methanol-reformulated fuels have a better emissions reduction rate than that of pure gasoline especially for HC, CO and NOx emissions during cranking mode. The acceleration performances conform to the results of the distillation curve and the CO concentration for RM50 varies slightly in acceleration mode.

  • Induction Motor fed by PWM inverter generates the sound and the vibration because of harmonic current and magnetic force characteristics. This paper is investigated the harmonic frequency and noise characteristics of the current and the torque of the induction motor when the input voltage is excited as the sine wave or PWM wave. The performance characteristics of induction motor is analyzed by the F.E.M and the theoretical method.

  • This paper presents the modeling and analysis of dynamic characteristics of hydraulic snubber in electric power plant. The nonlinear state-space model of 14th order to describe the dynamics of the snubber was established by Simulink. The simulation results show that the hydraulic snubber reacts as like the conventional shock absorbers against the high pulse shock load. The snubber also shows the peculiar characteristics to the small step load, which temporarily lock the control valves up, however maintain same steady-state pressures of all internal chambers in the long run. Two case studies for the analysis of the snubber were addressed. Practical pulse testing method was also proposed to identify the frequency response characteristics of the snubber.

  • We investigated the Electromigration characteristics in Cu alloyed Al line and the effect of Ti/TiN barrier layer on the characteristics. Test structures were fabricated by wafer level and 50% failure times were tested in the condition of j= 2 MA/$cm^3$, T= 300$^{\circ}C$. The reliability of Al line was improved which was 0.5%Cu Alloyed, but Ti/TiN under layer deteriorated the reliability while TiN over layer improved the characteristics.

  • This paper presents the improvement of dynamic characteristics in Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) type BLDC motor with notch. The notch is applied on the surface of the rotor to reduce the cogging torque and to improve dynamic characteristics. The current, inductance and torque of initial model and optimal model are analyzed by FEA. The validity of improved dynamic characteristics is confirmed.

  • An alternate application of MgO film for the improvement of discharge characteristics and life time in an ac plasma display panel (PDP) is suggested. In this research, we deposited MgO on the phosphor to get the same address characteristics irrespective of each phosphor. To avoid the luminance and efficiency degradation by MgO deposition on the phosphor, we optimized the MgO thickness through experiments. The results showed that PDP with MgO coated phosphor has a uniform formative delay in address discharge and improved degradation characteristics.

  • In this paper, multi discharge type ozonizer has been designed and manufactured. The of ozonizer is equipped with three electrodes(central electrode of screw shape, internal electrode and external electrode). This paper describes the following two characteristics: (1) The characteristics of discharge with variation of output voltage of AC H.V source, flow rate of oxygen supplied gas and discharge voltage. (2) The characteristics of ozone generation by varying flow rate and discharge power.

Effects of Shot Peening Projection Pressure on Electrochemical Characteristics of ALBC3 Alloy in Seawater (ALBC3 합금의 해수 내 전기화학적 특성에 미치는 쇼트피닝 분사압력의 영향)

  • The effects of shot peening pressure on electrochemical and surface morphological characteristics of ALBC3 alloy were investigated in this work. The surface hardness of ALBC3 alloy was improved by shot peening process under all shot peening pressures between 2 and 5 bar, and the hight value of surface hardness was observed to be about 420 Hv at 4 bar of the shot peening pressure. The shot peened surface presented very rough surface due to shot ball collision. The result of anodic potentiodynamic polarization in seawater revealed that there is no significant difference between the shot peened and non-shot peened specimen in terms of corrosion characteristics. Therefore, the optimum projection pressure is determined to be 4 bar.
