  • A design of regenerative cooling system of 30 ton level thrust combustion chamber for ground test has been performed. The 1-D design code has been validated by comparing with the heat flux of the NAL calorimeter for high chamber pressure and water-cooling performance of the ECC engine of MOBIS. The present design code has been confirmed to predict accurately the heat flux and water-cooling performance for high chamber pressure condition. The maximum hot-gas-side wall temperature is predicted to be about 720 K without thermal barrier coating and the coolant-side wall temperature is less than the coking temperature of RP-1. The coolant temperature rises nearly 100 K with thermal barrier coating when Jet-A1 is used as coolant.

  • This paper deals with technological and design skills for all pneumatical, hydraulical, mechanical and electrical parts related to control valve. Especially, a variety of dynamic characteristics, which are not easily extracted from field tests using control valves, are studied by system-simulation code, AMESim. The simulated results are also compared and examined with actual testing results in terms of physical dynamic characteristics. In addition, this paper contains the simulated system characteristics including dynamic characteristics in component level of valve itself. Based on the results, it is applied to control system of propellant feeding system in liquid-propellant engine of satellite launcher.

  • A Propulsion System of the CRW(Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) was composed of the turbojet engine to generate the propulsive exhaust gas, and the duct system including main and rotary ducts, the nozzle subsystem including main and tip jet nozzle for three flight modes such as lift/landing mode, low speed transition flight mode and high speed forward flight mode. Transient simulation performance utilized the ICV (Inter-component volume) method and simulated using the SIMULINK. Transient performance analysis was performed on 3 cases. Fuel flow schedules to accelerate from Idle to maximum rotational speed were divided into the step increase of the most severe case and ramp increase cases to avoid the overshoot of turbine inlet temperature, and variations of thrust and the turbine inlet temperature were investigated in some transient analysis cases.

  • In general liquid rocket nozzles are protected from hot combustion gas by regenerative cooling techniques. But due to the complexity of the cooling system, it causes increase of system cost and frequently source of the system malfunction. Recently, instead of regenerative cooing, ablative material are used to protect combustion chamber wall and nozzle. To determine the nozzle material erosion rate and erosion shape, more than 500 hot fire test were performed by using 100 lb thrust experimental liquid rocket. Test variable were propellant feed sequence, injector, position of igniter and liquid oxygen supply temperature.

  • By modulating the flow rate of $N_2O$ into a HR motor assembly, a control valve of a hybrid rocket engine plays a role to increase or decrease the thrust. In this study, the control valve has been designed to meet the requirements which are response speed(${\leq}$ about 1 second) and torque(${\geq}$ about $36N{\cdot}m$). Then, when analog signal 0~10V is applied, the situation where the valve is opened and closed has to be realized. To do this, the data values have to be entered into the actuator. Finally, the performance evaluation of the control valve has been performed to validate this product.

  • The purpose of the study was to establish the design procedure and develop the program for designing regenerative cooling system. To obtain the design parameter necessary for the realization of regenerative cooling system, water-cooled regenerative cooling system was designed from suggested procedure. To compare experimental results with a present method of analytically predicting the heat transfer loads, $250kg_{f}$ experimental LRE with water-cooled regenerative cooling system was investigated. Based on the investigation, the good correction between the predicted and measured data was verified. Developed design program can be used to designing Kerosene- cooled regenerative cooling system. The basic experimental data and correlations obtained in this study for 250kgf experimental LRE with water-cooled regenerative cooling system can be directly applicable to the real LRE.

  • Coupled transverse shaft vibrations have become the target of great concern in high powered ships such as container ships. Due to increasing ship's dimensions and high propulsive power, resonance frequencies of the propeller shaft system tend to decrease and can appear in some cases within the operating speed range of engine. In this connection, the coupled free transverse vibrations of shaft system in two planes are theoretically investigated. This shaft system carries a number of discs and is flexibly supported by a number of bearing stiffness are considered for the calculation. Transfer matrix method is applied to calculate the shaft responses in both planes. A digital computer program is developed to calculate the shaft responses of the coupled transverse vibrations in two planes. An experimental model shaft system is made. It is composed of a disc, shafts, ball bearings thrust bearings and flexible bearing supports. The shaft system is excited by an electrical magnet, and shaft vibration responses in two planes are measured with the strain gage system. From these measurements, the natural frequencies of the shaft system in both planes are found out. The developed program is also used to calculate the shaft vibration responses of experimental model shaft system. From the results of these calculations, the natural frequencies of shaft system in two planes are derived. Theoretical predictions of model shaft natural frequencies show good agreements with its esperimental measurements.

  • At the early stages of development of high-speed propulsion systems, associated uncertainties cannot be easily modeled into probabilistic distributions, owing to the lack of test data, cost, and difficulty of simulating real-flight environments on the ground. To tackle this issue, in this research, the combustion efficiencies of dual-combustion ramjet engines are assumed to have been provided by experts and quantified by evidence theory. Using quantified uncertainty, the inlet area and combustor exit are optimized while satisfying reliability margins of thrust and thermal choking. The result shows a reasonable design of the engine under uncertain circumstances.
