  • In the previous studies, one of our author had observed the obligatory nitrogen losses through urine and feces in young Korean male adults, and utilization of whole egg protein in Korean young adults with ordinary intake of energy as a basic study for estimating protein requirements of Korean. This study has tried to determine the protein requirement and utilization when subjects ate the Korean mixed diet at the energy level of 45 kcal per Kg body weight per day. Six healthy Korean young female adults, college students, aged $20{\sim}25$ years old, and $45{\sim}61Kg$ of body weight participated as the study subjects. They were given isocaloric diets with four different protein levels for five days each successively. These diets contained protein levels of 0.45, 0.60, 0.75 and 0.90g per Kg of body weight per day, respectively. It was attempted to observe energy and protein intake, urinary and fecal nitrogen losses, true digestibility of protein, net protein utilization of protein in the body over last two days of period of eating each diet and nitrogen balances were calculated. The body weight change and hematological observation were also performed. The results obtained were summarized as follows ; 1) True digestibility of protein of Korean mixed diets ranged from 83.1% to 86.5% and the average of which was $84.7{\pm}1.7%$. 2) Net protein utilization rate of Korean mixed diets was range of 49% to 55% and the average of which was $52{\pm}3%.$ 3) The body weight of subjects were slightly increased and the values of hemoglobin and hematocrit of the blood were also little increased during the experimental periods of twenty days. 4) Protein requirements of Korean mixed diet with the energy level of 45 kcal/Kg body weight per day of Korean young female adults were estimated as 1.00g/Kg/day on this experimental condition.

Effects of Dietary Metabolizable Energy and Lysine on CarcassCharacteristics and Meat Quality in Arbor Acres Broilers

  • An experiment was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary metabolizable energy (ME) and lysine on carcass characteristics and meat quality in Arbor Acres (AA) broilers from 1 to 56 days of age. A total of 2,970 1-d-old male broiler chicks were randomly allocated to nine dietary treatments (three ME levels in combination with three lysine levels), and dietary ME and lysine concentrations were formulated by varying corn, soybean meal, tallow, and L-lysine sulfate concentrations. Live body weight (BW), carcass weight (CW), dressing percent, breast muscle weight (BMW), yield of breast muscle, muscle color (CIE L*, a*, and b*), pH values 45 min and 24 h postmortem ($pH_{45}$, and $pH_{24}$), meat shear force value (SFV), and water loss rate (WLR) were evaluated. Results showed that live body weight and dressing percent increased (p<0.05) as dietary energy increased. Higher dietary lysine content improved breast muscle weight. Neither carcass weight nor yield of breast muscle was affected by dietary energy or lysine content. Higher ME increased the b* value (p = 0.067) and $pH_{24}$ value (p<0.05), whereas it decreased SFV (p<0.05) and WLR (p = 0.06). Only water loss rate was influenced (p<0.01) by dietary lysine, which was higher in broilers from the high lysine diet as compared to those from medium or low lysine diets. The $pH_{45}$ value and L* value of breast muscle were not affected by ME or lysine. Significant interaction of dietary ME and lysine was found on a* value of breast muscle. These results indicated that dietary ME and lysine had important effects on breast muscle growth and meat quality, however their effects were different. Different concentrations of dietary ME and lysine might be considered to improve meat quality.

Studies on the Optimum Dietary Energy and Protein Levels in Laying Hen (산란계사료의 적정에너지 및 단백질수준에 관한 연구)

  • A total of 1,440 White Leghorn pullets hatched in summer and winter, aged 20 to 72 weeks were fed 9 rations differing in dietary protein (13, 15 and 17%) and energy (2,500, 2,700 and 2,900 kcal/kg) levels for a period of 52 weeks in order to evaluate the optimum dietary energy and protein levels for laying hens. As metabolizable energy level increased from 2,500 to 2,900 kcal/kg of feed egg production, daily feed and protein intake and egg shell quality decreased, but reverse was true for the daily energy intake, energy requirement and feed cost per kg egg, body weight gain, nutrients utilizability and abdominal fat accumulation, Egg weight, viability and egg yolk Pigmentation were not affected by the dietary energy level. On the other hand, as dietary protein level increased from 13 to 17%, egg production, egg weight, daily protein intake, protein requirement per kg egg and body weight gain icreased, but daily feed and energy intake, feed and energy requirement per kg egg, egg yolk pigmentation and dry matter utilizability decreased, and no significant difference in the feed cost per kg egg, viability and egg shell quality was observed among dietary protein levels. However: the hens fed 15% and 17% Protein diets did not show significant differences in egg production, egg weight and body weight gain. For the entire laying period of 52 weeks, metabolizable energy level of 2,500 kcal/kg of feed and 15% dietary protein level were considered to be adequate to support the optimum productivity.

  • Seismic reflection method is applied to detect shallow location of limestone in Chechon area. The data using hammer source is compared with that of weight drop. Small size hammer and weight-drop are used as energy source and 100Hz geophones are used for data aquisition. Data processing is conducted utilizing the available processing technique of "Geobit", which is seismic data processing software developed by KIGAM. The result of above data processing, the velocity of topsoil layer is 1,250m/sec. The velocity of this area is higher than other area because loading trucks pass this area and make this layer compact. And in limestone area, hammer is proposed to energy source instead of weight drop because the energy propagates the layer very well.

  • An approximate weight function technique using the indirect boundary integral equation has been presented for the analysis of stress intensity foactors(SIFs) of a thick pipe. One-term boundary integral was introduced to represent the crack surface displacement field for the displacement based weight function technique. An explicit closed-form SIF solution applicable to symmetric cracked pipes without any modification of the solution including both circumferential and radial cracks has been derived. The necessary information in the analysis is two or three reference SIFs. In most cases the SIF solution were in good agreement with those available in the literature.

  • This study focuses on importance level analysis of environmentally-friendly planning factors using Analytic Hierarchy Process(AMP). This study verify different planning principle makes comparison matrix by a relative comparison value, verified consistency after yield weight to analyze more objective importance for apartment complex estate environmentally-friendly planning factor. In order to decide importance of apartment complex estate environmentally-friendly planning factors multiplying weight of verified planning principle with weight of planning factors. Next, valued planning factors constituent appeared to Energy efficient building plan, Rubbish recycling, thermal utilization of solar energy, Artificial tree planting of buildings etc. importantly. Finally, plan constituent that importance is underrated most appeared by Practical use of building materials and equipment, Centralization of energy and resources, Preservation of corridor etc.

A Study on the Durability Complement of Lightweight Photovoltaic Module (경량화 태양광 모듈의 내구성 보완에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we fabricated light-weight solar module for various applications such as building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), vehicles, trains, etc. Ethylene tetra fluoro ethylene (ETFE) film was applied as a material to replace the cover glass, which occupies more than 65% of the weight of the PV module. Glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) was applied to the ones with a low durability by replacing the cover glass to ETFE. Moreover, to achieve a high solar power conversion in this study, we applied a shingled design to weight reduced solar modules. The shingled module with GRP shows 183.7 W of solar-to-power conversion, and the output reduction rate after weight load test was 1.14%.

Evaluation on the utilization possibility of waste mushroom logs as biomass resource for bioethanol production (바이오에탄올 생산을 위한 바이오매스 자원으로서 버섯골목의 이용 가능성 평가)

  • In order to investigate the possibility of waste mushroom logs as biomass resource chemical and physical characteristics of normal woods and waste mushroom logs such as crystallinity value, energy consumption, total sugar yield after hydrolysis chemical compounds and molecular weight distribution after acid hydrolysis, were examined. In the results, crystallinity of waste mushroom logs which were three year passed after the inoculation was decreased drastically from 49% to 33% during the cultivation. Lignin contents as chemical compounds of normal woods and waste mushroom logs were 21.07% and 18.78%, respectively. By the results of measurement of energy consumption, the size reduction of normal woods required a significantly higher energy than that of waste mushroom logs. In the hydrolysis, total sugar yield by enzyme and acid hydrolysis were high in waste mushroom logs(53% 57.5%) than in normal woods(42.9%, 47.17%). According to the molecular weight distribution using GPC, low molecular weight compounds were distributed in waste mushroom logs. Based on these results, waste mushroom logs have enough potential as material for developing alternative energy because of easily conversion to sugar by various hydrolysis methods and requirement of low energy consumption during size reduction.

Assessment of Energy Intake and Energy Expenditure in Obese Elementary Students (비만 초등학생의 에너지 섭취량 및 에너지 소비량 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the energy intake and energy expenditure of obese children. The body weight and height were measured, and the daily energy intake and activity pattern assessed for one day, using the 24 hour recall method and interviews in 83 elementary school children (59 boys and 24 girls). The average age, height, weight, ideal body weight and obesity index in boys and girls were 11.8 years, 144.8 cm, 54.2 kg, 39.9 kg and 35.9% and 11.5 years, 140.8 cm, 48.9 kg, 36.9 kg and 33.7%, respectively. The mean daily energy intakes of boys and girls were 1,670.5 and 1,656.5 kcal; these being 76.4 and 88.5% of estimated energy requirement for Koreans, respectively. The energy intake ratio from carbohydrates, proteins and fats in boys and girls were 61.5:14.7:23.6 and 62.0:14.7:23.7, respectively. The resting energy expenditure, as estimated by the Harris-Benedict, WHO/NAO/FAO and Korean DRI formulae in boys and girls were 1,452.7, 1,239.2 and 1,629.2 kcal and 1,323.9, 1,156.0 and 1,252.4 kcal, respectively. The activity coefficient for both the boys and girls was 1.39. The daily energy expenditure of boys (1,990.7 kcal) was significantly higher than that of girls (1712.1 kcal). No significant correlations were found between the obesity index, energy intake and energy expenditure. These results suggested that a nutrition and exercise program is required to increase the energy expenditure of elementary school children. Further research will be needed to assess multiple dietary factors and dove]lop a standard method for assessing the energy expenditure of obese children.

Subacute Toxicity Study of 40 kGy Irradiated Ready-to-Eat Bulgogi

  • The wholesomeness of 40 kGy irradiated ready-to-eat (RTE) bulgogi was evaluated by subacute toxicity studies (body weight, food consumption, organ weight, hematology, serum biochemistry, and histopathological examination) with groups of 40 male and female ICR mice fed the agent at dietary levels of 5% for 90 days. There were no treatment-related adverse effects with regard to body weight, food consumption, organ weight, hematology, serum biochemistry, and histopathology. The no-observed-adverse-effect-level (NOAEL) was also determined to be greater than dietary level of at least 5% (3900 mg/kg body weight/day for males, 3500 mg/kg body weight/ day for females) for samples under the present experimental conditions. These results suggest that, under these experimental conditions, RTE bulgogi irradiated at 40 kGy did not show any toxic effects.
