  • Quasi-static tests were conducted to evaluate structural performance of precast piers prestressed by bonded prestressing steels. Combinations of prestressing bars and normal reinforcing bars, embedded steel tubes and prestressing strands were used as continuous steels crossing the joints of a precast pier. Main design parameters were steel ratio, magnitude of prestress force, and section details. Flexural strength and energy dissipation capacity of precast columns with higher steel ratio showed better performance due to continuous steels after opening of the joints. Precast piers with embedded members showed stable behavior after reaching maximum loads resulting in higher displacement ductility and energy dissipation capacity increased as the introduced prestress increased. Self-centering behavior at early stages and stress increase of confining reinforcements were observed from highly prestressed columns. Combination of prestressing steels and normal reinforcing bars should be used in design to prevent rapid strength degradation after reaching the maximum load.

  • Hysteretic energy is defined as energy dissipated through inelastic deformations during a ground motion by the system. It includes frequency content and duration of ground motion as two remarkable parameters, while these characteristics are not seen in displacement spectrum. Since maximum displacement individually cannot be the appropriate criterion for damage assessment, hysteretic energy has been evaluated in this research as a more comprehensive seismic demand parameter. An innovative methodology has been proposed to establish a new equivalent linear model to estimate hysteretic energy spectrum for bilinear SDOF models under two different sets of earthquake excitations. Error minimization has been defined in the space of equivalent linearization concept, which resulted in equivalent damping and equivalent period as representative parameters of the linear model. Nonlinear regression analysis was carried out for predicting these equivalent parameter as a function of ductility. The results also indicate differences between seismic demand characteristics of far-field and near-field ground motions, which are not identified by most of previous equations presented for predicting seismic energy. The main advantage of the proposed model is its independency on parameters related to earthquake and response characteristics, which has led to more efficiency as well as simplicity. The capability of providing a practical energy based seismic performance evaluation is another outstanding feature of the proposed model.

  • The performance of steel fiber reinforced geopolymer concrete beam column joints under cyclic loading was investigated. The volume fraction of fibers considered were 0.25% (19.62 kg/㎥), 0.5% (39.24 kg/㎥), 0.75% (58.86 kg/㎥) and 1% (78.48 kg/㎥). A total of fifteen specimens were prepared and tested under reverse cyclic loading. Test results were analyzed with respect to first crack load, ultimate load, energy absorption capacity, energy dissipation capacity, stiffness degradation and load deflection behavior. Test results revealed that the addition of steel fibers enhanced the performance of geopolymer concrete beam column joints significantly. The joints were analyzed using finite element software ANSYS. The analytical results were found to compare satisfactorily with the experimental values.

  • The high temperature deformation behavior of spray-formed Al-19wt%Si-1.87wt%Mg-0.085wt.%Fe alloy was studied by torsion testing in the strain rate range of 0.001-1 sec-1 and in the temperature range of 300-500 $^{\circ}C$. The relationship between stress temperature and strain rate is expressed using the Power law. the behavior of dynamic recrystallization is showed in 300-35$0^{\circ}C$, 1-0.1sec-1 and the behavior of dynamic recovery is showed in 450-50$0^{\circ}C$, 0.01-0.001sec-1 The size of Si particles is mall when the temperature is low and the strain rate is high. The strain rate sensitivity(m) and the apparent activation energy(Q) indicate the dependence on strain rate and temperature for flow stress respectively. The hot ductility is high when m is high and Q is low. The maps of strain rate sensitivity and apparent activation energy suggest the optimum processing conditions.

  • This paper has proposed a reinforcing method for damaged RC columns with SRF sheets and Aramid rods. In order to verify the effectiveness and performance, two original columns and two reinforced columns with SRF sheets and Aramid rods were developed and tested under lateral cyclic displacement and a constant axial load. The test showed that the improvement of energy dissipation capacity was increased in terms of strength and ductility. In addition, an analytical modeling of the standard specimens was proposed using Response-2000 and ZeusNL program. The results of analytical and experimental studies for two standard columns were compared in terms of loading-displacement curve and energy dissipation capacity based on the nonlinear static analysis.

  • The purpose of this study has a purpose to evaluate shear ability, ductility and energy dissertation of specimens that is to be applied to jacket using wrapping method. The experiments was conducted as a condition that simultaneously applied axial load and transverse force. The results of experiments represent story-displacement ratio, the stiffness, energy dissertation, plastic rotation which mean seismic resistance ablity on structure. And It represents the form of crack ditribution and failure in extreme stages. Based on the results of this experiment, Design examples are given to show the performance evaluation for the column reinforcing of old school buildings using nonlinear analysis is going to be conducted. Therefore, it is possible to apply the seismic retrofit method to public facilities.

  • Recently, composite structural systems have been developed actively due to its structural advantages of combining different materials. The objective of this paper is to investigate the structural behavior of moment connection in composite structures which consist of steel beams and reinforced concrete columns. In this study, three 1/2 scale joint specimens were tested under reversal loads. The results showed that beam-column joints maintain ductility, strength and exhibit excellent energy-dissipating capacity when subjected to inelastic deformations under reversal load.

  • This study was performed to verify the properties of concrete used recycled aggregate(0, 30%, 50%). Also, to improve the brittle fracture, energy absorption and apparent ductility of concrete, we added polypropylene fibers(0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0% by volume of concrete). As the experimental results, adding 30% recycled aggregates and 0.5% polypropylene fibers to concrete mixes enhances the properties of both compressive strength and toughness.

  • Under sever earthquake, structural elements or structures may sustain a large number of inelastic excursions. To predict seismic damage of the structures with accuracy, much research for general definition of structural collapse and seismic damage analysis is required. The ductility method, the energy method and Park and Ang method for seismic damage analysis of structural elements and structures are compared in this paper. Also, the seismic damage analysis for system-level of structure is carried out using the ESDOF-system method and Powell method. To compare tendency of the seismic damage analysis using each methods, example analysis is accomplished for several cases of different structures and different earthquake excitation.
