인코넬 718의 엔드밀링시 헬릭스각에 따른 절삭특성 변화 - (II) 하향엔드밀링 (Cutting Characteristics Variation of Inconel 718 in End Millig with different Helix Angles -(II) Down End Milling)

  • This paper has two purposes. One is to investigate the effect of the helix angle of endmilling cutter on the cutting haracteristics of inconel 718 in down endmilling. To this end a newly developed cutting force model in down end milling process is presented. Using this cutting force components of 4-tooth endmills with various helix angles have been predicted. Predicted values of cutting force components are well coincide with the measured ones. The other is to compare the down endmilling characteristics of lnconel 718 with those of the up milling previously presented. In up endmilling as the helix angle becomes larger the radial and tangential components of the specific cutting force ($K_1 and K_r$) decrease. While in down milling $K_1 and K_r$ become smaller as the helix angle decrease.

  • Recently, miniaturization and mass production are the main trends in manufacturing fields. Therefore, ultraprecision machining and MEMS technology have been taken more 7md more important position in machining of microparts. Micro endmilling is one of the prominent technology that has wide spectrum of application field ranging from duo parts to micro products, such as PDP md IT components, in precision products manufacturing. However, decreasing of burr is significant problem in making smooth and precise parts in micro endmilling. This paper shows removal characteristics of burr generated by micro endmilling process. This results satisfies micro endmilling for micro barrier ribs of heights is $50{\mu}m$, $100{\mu}m$, $200{\mu}m$, $300{\mu}m$, and observation from of burr. Additionally, it is necessary to understand the formation mechanism of burr of micro barrier ribs to iud proper decreasing method.

자유곡면의 정밀가공을 위한 표면거칠기의 정량적 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study Quantitative Analysis of Surface Roughness for Precision Machining of Sculptured Surface)

  • A quantitative analysis of a surface roughness for a precision machining of a sculptured surface in milling process is treated under superposition theory in this paper. The geometrical surface rouhgness is calculated as a function of feed per tooth, path interval, radii of tool and cutting edge, and radii of curvatures of workiece. Through machining experiments in a 3-axis machining center, we confirmed the adequacy of the adequacy of the analysis. While cutter mark is neglegible in ball endmilling, it is significant in flat endmilling. When feed per tooth is very small, flat endmilling gives superior finish to ball endmilling. In flat endmilling, cutting condition and cutter path should be strategically chosen to balance the cutter mark height and cusp height.

  • The detection and analysis of chatter behaviour in endmilling is very complex and difficult so it is necessary to detect and diagnose this chatter phenomenon clearly. This paper presents a new method for detecting the abnormal chatter in endmilling operation, based on the wavelet transform. Using AR spectrum the data that has chatter phenomenon was verified and the fundamental property of chatter and its characteristics in endmilling by using the wavelet transform is reviewed. This result obtained by wavelet transform proves the possibility and reliability of detecting the chatter in endmilling operation.

  • Recently, the advanced industries using micro parts are rapidly growing. The appearance of ultra-precision feed mechanism and the development of control system make it possible to process parts in sub millimeter scale by mechanical methods. Micro endmilling is one of the prominent technology that has wide spectrum of application field ranging from macro parts to micro products. So, micro stairs have been trying to cut by using high revolution air turbine spindle and micro-endmill, and studying for magnitude of cutting force. This investigation deals removal characteristics of burr generated by micro endmilling process. Also, decreasing of burr is significant problem in making smooth and precise parts in micro endmilling. In micro endmilling, the material removal rate(MRR) and cutting forces are very small. This paper presents an investigation on the machining characteristics for micro stairs by using ultrahigh-speed air turbine spindle in machining.

  • In this study, a mechanistic model of cutting force components in up and down end milling process is presented. Using this cutting force model of 4-tooth endmills with various helix angles, cutting force variation of inconel 718 has been predicted. Predicted values of cutting force components are coincide well with the measured ones. As helix angle increases, overlapping effects of the active cutting edges increase. In up endmilling the magnitudes of radial and feed cutting force componts FX and FY are lowest when the helix angle is $40\{\circ}$, but in down endmilling the magnitudes of these values increase slightly as helix angle becomes large.

  • This paper presents an investigation on the characteristics for new micro tool dynamometer by using the ultrahigh-speed air turbine spindle. Recently, the ultrahigh-speed micro flat endmilling has been investigated actively due to request of accuracy improvement and productivity of die and mould manufacturing. To perform efficient ultrahigh-speed micro flat endmilling, evaluation of ultrahigh-speed machinability must be studied preferentially and it can be identified by investigation of cutting force. The cutting forces in ultrahigh-speed micro flat endmilling can be measured by micro tool dynamometer. But general dynamometer has low natural frequency and so is improper for measuring very high frequency cutting forces in ultrahigh-speed micro flat endmilling. In this study, the micro tool dynamometer which has very high natural frequency is newly designed.

  • The chatter behaviour in endmilling is a complex and nonlinear phenomenon, so it is very difficult to detect and diagnose this chatter phenomenon, This paper presents new method for the detection of chatter in endmilling operation based on the wavelet transform. In this paper, the fundamental property of the wavelet transform is reviewed by comparing the spectrum of other algorithm such as FFT. This result using wavelet transform shows the possibiling of the chatter detection in endmilling operation.

엔드밀링에서의 동절삭력 모델을 이용한 채터예측 (Chatter Prediction in Endmilling Using Dynamic Cutting Force Modeling)

  • Cutting process, in general, is a closed-loop system consisting of structural dynamics and cutting dynamics, with the cutting forces and the relative displacements between tool and workpiece being the associated variables. There have been a number of works on modeling the cutting process of endmilling, most of which assumed that either one of the tool or workpiece be negligible in tis displacement. In this paper, the relative displacement between tool and workpiece was considered. The proposed model used experimental modal analysis for structural dynamics and an instantaneous uncut chip thickness model for cutting dynamics. Simulation of the model, a time varying cutting system, was performed using 4th order Runge-Kutta method. Subsequent simulation results were utilized to predict chatter over a variety of experiments in slotting operation, showing good agreement.
