  • The present study pertains to the introduction of two new types of grip adaptor for universal testing machines, namely Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and Polyoxymethylene (POM) grip adaptors, and their application to tension testing of FRP bars with different fiber and surface finish types. The tabs are connected to the FRP bar sample with the help of mechanical anchors, i.e. bolts. These new adaptors offer vital superiorities over the existing end tab designs (anchors with filling material or mechanical anchorage), including the reduction in the time and labor for production, reusability and the mild nature, i.e. low hardness of the tab material, which retards and even prevents peeling and crushing in the gripping regions of an FRP sample. The methods were successfully applied to FRP bars with different types of fiber (CFRP, GFRP and BFRP) and different types of surface texture (ribbed, wrapped, sand-coated and wound). The test results indicated that the both types of end caps prevented slip of the bar, crushing and peeling in the gripping zone. The mechanical properties from the material tests with the new caps were in perfect agreement with the ones from the material tests with steel tubular caps.

  • In the context of the evolution of automation and intelligence, deep learning and machine learning algorithms have been widely applied in aquaculture in recent years, providing new opportunities for the digital realization of aquaculture. Especially, water quality management deserves attention thanks to its importance to food organisms. In this study, we proposed an end-to-end deep learning-based TabNet model for water quality prediction. From major indexes of water quality assessment, we applied novel deep learning techniques and machine learning algorithms in innovative fish aquaculture to predict the number of water cells counting. Furthermore, the application of deep learning in aquaculture is outlined, and the obtained results are analyzed. The experiment on in-house data showed an optimistic impact on the application of artificial intelligence in aquaculture, helping to reduce costs and time and increase efficiency in the farming process.

  • When implementing butt joint welding of two plates, it is useful to attach end-tabs made of a metal with high heat conductivity (e.g., copper) at the front and back sides of the welded plates to prevent the bead from rolling down and prevent defects that may occur at the tips of the weld zone. In this study, the fin shape, which is known to have good heat discharging characteristics by natural convection, has been applied to enhance the cooling performance of the end-tab. From both experiment and numerical analysis, it was confirmed that end-tabs with fin-shaped holes have better heat discharging performance than end-tabs without holes. Through thermal and fluid flow analysis, the cooling rates of end-tabs with different hole shapes were estimated in order to figure out characteristics of shape factor that are important for the heat discharging performance. As a result, we found that the structure including vertical fins with optimal fin gap was the best-performing shape.

  • AC AT feeding method consists return circuits of electric train inserting in parallel between trolly line and feeding line and connecting neutral line to rail and FPW. Due to increasing electric load at feeding system, collecting voltage of train and end voltage are going down. So to increase voltage between trolly line and rail, the usefulness of new autotransformer are considered which variation of short impedance and change of line voltage is simulated with modified winding ratio of autotransformer from 1:1 to variable tab.

  • The double split tee connection, a type of beam-to-column moment connection, exhibits different behavioral characteristics according to changes in the thickness of the T-stub flange, the gauge distance of the high-strength bolt, and the number and diameter of high-strength bolts. In general, the double split tee connection is idealized and designed so that a T-stub fastened to the top and bottom supports a flexural moment, and a shear tab supports a shear force. However, if the double split tee connection is applied to low-and medium-rise steel structures, the size of the beam member becomes small, and thus the shear tab cannot be bolted to the web of a beam. In this regard, this study was conducted to propose connection details to ensure that the double split tee connection with a geometric shape can display sufficient shear resisting capacity. To this end, experiments were conducted using full-scale specimens for the double split tee connection.

  • In this study, trim tabs were attached to end of stern hull of a small high-speed vessel of length approximately 10 m and Froude number 1.0 to improve resistance performance and passenger comfort. Before computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to assess the performance according to various geometries of the trim tab, the scale effect had been found through a previous study, so full-scale simulations were performed. The trim tab chord length was set to 0.5 %, 1.0 % and 1.5 % of LPP, and its angle to base line was varied in intervals of 5°. It decreased trim by stern and flotation: the greater the angle and length, the greater was the effect. Then it had pressure resistance decreased and shear resistance increased, and reduction ratio of total resistance varied accordingly. The results of this study indicated that the resistance performance was improved about 27 % at optimal running attitude that was the trim by stern about 1.5°.

  • To study the working mechanisms for non-starch polysaccharidases to improve the growth performance of broiler chickens, a 21-day feeding trial was conducted. Two dietary treatments were included: 1) wheat diet (the control); 2) wheat+xylanase diet (xylanase, Allzyme PT, Alltech, Kentucky, USA). There were 8 replicates with 8 birds each for each treatment and the experimental diets were given to birds from hatch. Feed intake and body weight were measured on days 7 and 21. At the same ages, samples were taken for the determination of selected groups of luminal and mucosa-associated bacteria, mucosal morphology, brush-border membrane (BBM) bound enzyme activity and ileal nutrient digestibility. The xylanase supplement increased (p<0.05) body weight gain (BWG) and improved feed conversion ratio (FCR) at the end of the experiment but protein and starch digestibilities were not affected (p>0.05) by xylanase. Up to day 7, xylanase increased the counts of C. perfringens in the ileum and total anaerobic bacteria (TAB) in the caeca (p<0.05, p=0.07, respectively). By day 21, the counts of ileal lactobacilli (p<0.05) and TAB (p=0.07) were lower in birds given the xylanase-supplemented diet than in those on the control diet. No significant differences were observed in the counts of mucosa-associated lactobacilli and coliforms between xylanase treatment and the control at both ages. Villus height at the jejunum was not affected (p>0.05) by the supplement but crypt depth at the same site was reduced at day 7. Also, xylanase tended to increase the concentration of BBM protein (p = 0.09) and the specific activity of sucrase (p = 0.07) at day 21.

Below the critical micelle concentration N10-6-10N form premicelle with two or three surfactant molecules. Beyond the critical micelle concentration two molecules have strong self-aggregation ability and form micelles of rather small size and with small aggregation numbers. H-NMR at different concentrations give the informations on the environmental changes of the surfactants on their micellization progress.

  • Microbial and related biochemical mass of composts are important for optimization of its process and end-products. This study was carried out to assess the specific microbial and related biochemical mass which could be used as an indicator for compost maturity during composting stages. The samples from five compost plants were collected at three stages (Initial, Thermophilic and Mature) and analyzed for total aerobic bacteria (TAB), Coliforms, Escherichia coli, Actinomycetes and fungi. Significantly, the coliforms and E.coli counts decreased during the thermophilic stage and were completely eliminated during mature stage. However, the other microbial mass were completely eliminated during mature stage. Which disclosed that Coliforms and E.coli communities can be used as compost maturity indicator. Interestingly, the microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen ratio (MBC/MBN) were decreased a little during the thermophilic stage due to the decreasing number of coliforms, Ecoli and fungi, while the ratio increased during the mature stage due to increasing fungal and aerobic bacterial counts. In addition the heavy metals were shown strong negative correlation with Actenomycetes. This study provides insight to the evaluation of compost maturity as well as the quality by the metal-microbial interactions.
