  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of toddler's emotionality and mother's reaction to their child's negative emotions of social-emotional behaviors of toddlers. The subjects were 141 mothers and toddlers ranging in age from 18 to 36 months. Instruments used in this study were: 1) Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire(ECBQ)(Rothbart, 1994), 2) Coping with Toddlers' Negative Emotions Scale(CTNES)(Eisenberg et al., 1996), and 3)Brief Infant Toddler Social and Emotional Assesment(BITSEA)(Carter et al., 2006). Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of this study show that toddler's emotionality and the mother's negative reaction to their child's negative emotions were related to the social-emotional behaviors of toddler. Also, mother's reaction to their child's negative emotions have mediation effects between toddler's emotionality and social-emotional behaviors. Specifically, toddler's emotionality has a partial mediating effect on social-emotional behaviors through mother's supportive reaction to their child's negative emotions. Additionally it was also determined that the toddler's emotionality has a complete mediating effect on the relationship between mother's unsupportive reaction to their child's negative emotions and the social-emotional behaviors of toddler. Theses results support the notion that mother's character as well as child's personality at birth are critical predictors which could impact social-emotional behaviors of toddler.

  • This paper has identified five major categories of the T2D patients' concerns based on an online forum where the patients voluntarily verbalized their naturally occurring emotional reactions and concerns related to T2D. We have emphasized the fact that the lexical and phrasal analysis brought to the forefront the prevailing negative reactions and desires for clear information, professional advice, and emotional support. This study used lexical and phrasal analysis based on text-mining tools to estimate the potential of using a large sample of patient conversation of a specific disease posted on the internet for clinical features and patients' emotions. As a result, the study showed that quantitative analysis based on text-mining is a viable method of generalizing the psychological concerns and features of T2D patients.

  • This study examined the effects of emotional clarity and empathic ability on interpersonal competence among nursing college students. The subjects included college students in some provinces. The research period was November and December 2019. Two hundred and eighty five students were analyzed. The data collected were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The findings show that empathy (β=.551, p<.001), emotional clarity (β=.288, p<.001), and satisfaction with college life (β=.092, p<.001) had significant effects on interpersonal competence with an explanatory power of 47.4%. Interpersonal competence had significant positive correlations with empathy (r=.641, p<.001) and emotional clarity (r=.443, p<.001). Therefore, it is important to reinforce the development and application of customized individual counseling programs designed to enhance empathy. This encourages nursing college students to understand emotional clarity, which helps them recognize others' emotions as well as their own and make proper reactions. Accordingly, satisfaction with college life, which adds more vitality to their college life, will increase the interpersonal competence of nursing college students. In the future, repeating and in-depth research should be conducted to include emotional and psychological factors of interpersonal competence. A standardized research tool will be needed to measure interpersonal competence.

  • Since affective computing has been introduced in 90s, affect recognition technology has achieved substantial progress recently. However, the application of user emotion recognition into software user interface is in its early stages. In this paper, we describe a new approach for developing mobile user interface which could react differently depending on user emotion states. First, an emotion reaction model is presented which determines user interface reactions for each emotional state. We introduce a pair of mappings from user states to different user interface versions. The reacting versions are implemented by a set of variations for a view. Further, we present an authoring framework to help developers/designers to create emotion-aware reactions based on the proposed emotion reaction model. The authoring framework is necessary to alleviate the burden of creating and handling multi versions for views at the development process. A prototype implementation is presented as an extension of the existing authoring tool DAT4UX. Moreover, a proof-of-concept application featuring an emotion-aware interface is developed using the tool.

  • Aesthetics undertakes important roll in design as a competitive factor. The importance of aesthetics can be found in experimental aesthetics, Gestalt psychology and design related literatures. These literatures suggest that, besides the importance of aesthetics, many other aesthetic factors would affect consumer reaction(recognition, emotional reaction, meaning), but the study is still in insufficient condition. Hense, this study tries to give a guideline -'how to design symbols'based on the apprehension of what kind of design is well recognized(correct recognition), gives positive emotional reaction(affect) to customers, and moreover, what sort of aesthetic factors affect these reactions by analyzing existing symbol designs.

  • Despite the proliferation of studies on emotion, little attention has been paid to the effects of discrete emotion on political participation. Using a representative survey conducted on a sample of South Korean citizens in the aftermath of the Sewol ferry accident, the current survey explored how anger and sadness, as well as the ways people express those emotions, influence the orientation of their response in social environments and, ultimately, their voting intention. The results partially supported the discrete effects of sadness and anger in eliciting reactions of approach or avoidance. Anger was found to provoke an approach action tendency in independent voters and supporters of the opposition, while also eliciting an avoidance action tendency with a varying effect size across all three groups of respondents. Sadness also prompted an approach action tendency in independents and supporters of the incumbent party, while it manifested a negative association with the avoidance action tendency in supporters of the opponent party. An interpretation of the findings and proposed directions for future research are presented.

  • It is common for popular products to sell out, and be out of stock. The purpose of this study is to examine the responses of consumers who have experiences of shopping online, and finding their desired products unavailable from being sold out. In order to carry out the study, in-depth interviews were conducted with ten recruits who were recruited from the Internet community, Soul Dresser, which is part of the Korean web portal, Daum. First, the cognitive reaction of the interviewees showed both positive and negative responses when they found out that their desired product was sold out. However, in the case of emotional reaction, all of them showed negative reactions. Observations showed that consumers researched and found similar products including price when they realized that their desired products were not going to be re-stocked. And in cases of similar products not being available, the consumers looked to buy other types of products such as bags, shoes, and other accessories.

  • Purpose: Traditional charity retail needs to change its communication in the online environment. This article examines the effectiveness of communication by online charity organizations in terms of the type of messages being delivered. Research design, data and methodology: Study 1 based on a sample of 120 Korean adults, we investigated whether charity asking messages for domestic people, compared to those for foreign people, prompt more favorable evaluations when framed with low (vs. high) construal levels. In Study 2, with 120 Korean adults sample, we tested whether emotional message appeals prompt a more favorable response than rational messages when framed in a socially close. Results: According to the result of Study 1, for the domestic recipients, donation messages situated in the near, compared to the distant, future induced more favorable reactions from potential donors. Moreover, in Study 2, emotional (vs. rational) message appeals generated more positive donation intentions when they were framed in the socially close situation. Conclusions: This research contributes that differing consumer construal have important implications for how marketing communication might best gain charitable support. This suggests that marketers who design a donation message should consider message's appeal and type to activate the potential donors' willingness to participate in the campaign.
