  • Geopolymer concrete is a new class of construction materials that has emerged as an alternative to ordinary Portland cement concrete to reduce the emission of $CO_2$ in the production of concrete. Many researches have been carried out on material developments of geopolymer concrete, however a few studies have been reported on the structural use of them. This paper presents an experiment on the bond behaviors of reinforcements embedded in fly ash based geopolymer concrete. The development lengths of reinforcement for various compressive strength levels of geopolymer concrete, 20, 30 and 40 MPa, and reinforcement diameters, 10, 16 and 25 mm, are investigated. Total 27 specimens were manufactured and pull-out test according to EN 10080 was applied to measure the bond strength and slips between concrete and reinforcements. As the compressive strength levels of geopolymer concrete increase, the bond strength between geopolymer concrete and reinforcement increase. The bond strengths decrease as the diameters of reinforcements increase, which is similar in normal concrete. Also, an estimation equation for the basic development length of reinforcement embedded in geopolymer concrete is proposed based on the experimental results in this study.

  • Polarimetric study of light scattering from cometary dust particles can provide us opportunity to decipher their characteristics, such as sizes, structures, compositions of dust grains, etc. Herein, we present the results of our polarimetric study of long-period comet, C/2013 US10 (Catalina), in optical and near-infrared wavelengths which appeared at large phase angle (52.7 degrees) around the mid-December, 2015. We performed polarimetric and spectroscopic observations with HONIR, attached to the 1.5-m telescope at Higashi-Hiroshima Observatory, on UT 2015 December 17-18 and also obtained optical imaging data sets by the Ishigakijima Astronomical Observatory (IAO) and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO) taken between 2014-2015. By measuring the intensities of gas emission lines with respect to dust continuum and considering transmittance of each filter, we estimated that the percentages of gas contamination are approximately 10 percents in $R_C$-band and 3 percents in $I_C$-band. With these results, we derive the degree of linear polarization scattered solely from dust components in the coma. At this presentation, we will compare the phase-angle dependence of the degree of linear polarization with those of previous archive data in a wide coverage of wavelengths from $R_C$-band to $K_S$-band. Finally, we are supposed to discuss the spatial variations in polarization within the coma.

  • Safety operation of main pipelines is primarily provided by anticorrosive monitoring. Anticorrosive monitoring of oil pipeline transportation objects is based on results of complex corrosion inspections, analysis of basic data including design data, definition of a corrosion residual rate and diagnostic of general equipment's technical condition. All the abovementioned arrangements are regulated by normative documents. For diagnostics of corrosion-technical condition of oil pipeline transportation objects one presently uses different methods such as in-line inspection using devices with ultrasonic, magnetic or another detector, acoustic-emission diagnostics, electrometric survey, general external corrosion diagnostics and cameral processing of obtained data. Results of a complex of diagnostics give a possibility: $\cdot$ to arrange a pipeline's sectors according to a degree of corrosion danger; $\cdot$ to check up true condition of pipeline's metal; $\cdot$ to estimate technical condition and working ability of a system of anticorrosive protection. However such a control of corrosion technical condition of a main pipeline creates the appearance of estimation of a true degree of protection of an object if values of protective potential with resistive component are taken into consideration only. So in addition to corrosive technical diagnostics one must define a true residual corrosion rate taking into account protective action of electrochemical protection and true protection of a pipeline one must at times. Realized anticorrosive monitoring enables to take a reasonable decision about further operation of objects according to objects' residual life, variation of operation parameters, repair and dismantlement of objects.

  • In this paper, we reviewed the method of replacing the number of registered vehicles with the number of trips to more realistically calculate vehicle emissions. Using the Korea Transport Data Base (KTDB) in replacing the number of registered vehicles with adjusted number of registered vehicle by specific vehicle type in the metropolitan area, the results by region showed that Seoul had the widest rate of error and that, among vehicles, trucks had the widest rate of error. Also, the absolute value of deviation of registered vehicles and adjusted number of registered vehicle influenced by the calculation of the quantity of vehicle emissions showed that out of the metropolitan regional government all trucks showed the widest deviation. The results of calculating the quantity of vehicle emissions showed an average of 9% difference between the emissions based on the number of registered vehicles and the emissions based on adjusted number of registered vehicle.

  • In this study, the chemical compositions of $PM_{2.5}$ samples collected at the Redwood National Park IMPROVE site in California from March 1988 to May 2004 were analyzed to provide source identification and apportionment. A total of 1,640 samples were collected and 33 chemical species were analyzed by particle induced X-ray emission, proton elastic scattering analysis, photon induced X-ray fluorescence, ion chromatography, and thermal optical reflectance methods. Positive matrix factorization (PMF) was used to develop source profiles and to estimate their mass contributions. The PMF modeling identified five sources and the average mass was apportioned to motor vehicle (35.8%, $1.58\;{\mu}g/m^3$), aged sea salt (23.2%, $1.02\;{\mu}g/m^3$), fresh sea salt (21.4%, $0.94\;{\mu}g/m^3$), wood/field burning (16.1%, $0.71\;{\mu}g/m^3$), and airborne soil (3.5%, $0.15\;{\mu}g/m^3$), respectively. To analyze local source impacts from various wind directions, the CPF and NPR analyses were performed using source contribution results with the wind direction values measured at the site. These results suggested that sources of $PM_{2.5}$ are also sources of visibility degradation and then source apportionment studies derived for $PM_{2.5}$ are also used for understanding visibility problem.

  • This study evaluated the applicability of spacebourne datasets to the flood analysis in an ungauged watershed where is no discharge measurements. The Duman River basin of North Korea was selected as a target area which was flooded by recent Typhoon Lionrock. Topographical parameters for flood analysis were estimated from the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM). GDEM includes the shortcomings of information on river cross-section, and conducted 2 dimensional flood analysis when considering virtual river cross-section and not considering it. As a result of comparative analysis, an error occurs in the inundation area and depth, but when used carefully, it is considered that the satellite image can be used for creating flood hazard map and utilizing information for response and preparation.

  • We measured the time-dependent concentration of VOCs emitted from Ondol floor, furniture, and the wall made of various building materials. After obtaining results from the previous measurement, we developed the estimation equations of the concentration decay, and obtained the estimated graphs for the concentration decay under different air change rates and loading factor conditions by using the estimated equations. We conducted our tests by applying our measurements to real residences for 110 days in the case of furniture and for 40 days in the case of the floor. We also conducted experiments in the cases of various wall materials for 7 days which totaled 10 times. We used the GC/FID for experiments for real residences accord-ing to the specified procedures of the NIOSH 1501, and carried out experiments for wall materials according to the specified procedures of the ASTM 5116-97. When conducting experiments for wall materials, we set the temperature and relative humidity at $23^{\circ}C$ and $50\%$, respectively. We also set the air change rate and loading factor at 0.7/h and $1.617 m^2/m^3$, respectively. Our results showed that it is possible to predict proplrly the time-dependent concentration decay of VOCs by using logarithmic functions in both cases of experiments for real residences and for wall materials. Furthermore, we found that the concentration decay rate of VOCs increased rapidly as the air exchange rate increased while the concentration decay rate decreased as the loading factor increased.

  • There is a growing interest in various microgrid solutions that supply electricity 24 hours a day to off-grid areas where are not connected with the main grid, and Korea has many positive effects by constructing overseas microgrids as a country operating the emission trading scheme. Since it is not clear how to obtain load curves that is one of the inputs of the HOMER used to design a microgrid optimization plan, or it is necessary to examine whether electricity is supplied to the peak load level of the areas where have not received the electricity benefits from the viewpoint of the demand management, a methodology should be developed to know the load composition ratio and the shape of the daily load curve. In this paper, the relative coefficient and average load information for each load group obtained from the survey are used besides peak load and total average load. A mathematical model is proposed to derive the load composition ratio in the form of a Quadratic Programming and the load forecasting is performed using simple linear regression with future indicators. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed for the Philippine island region supported by Korea Energy Agency and the Asian Development Bank.

  • Nb-doped $TiO_2$(NTO) coated NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrogen production is prepared using ultrasonic spray pyrolysis deposition(USPD) method. To optimize the size and distribution of NTO particles based on good physical and chemical stability, we synthesize particles by adjusting the weight ratio of the Nb precursor solution(5 wt%, 10 wt% and 15 wt%). The morphological, chemical bonding, and structural properties of the NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam are investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy(XPS), and Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM). As a result, the samples of controlled Nb weight ratio exhibit a common diffraction pattern at ${\sim}25.3^{\circ}$, corresponding to the(101) plane, and have chemical bonding(O-Nb=O) at 534 eV. The NTO particles with the optimum weight ratio of N (10 wt%) show a uniform distribution with a size of ~18.2-21.0 nm. In addition, they exhibit the highest corrosion resistance even in the electrochemical stability estimation. As a result, the introduction of NTO coated NiCrAl alloy foam by USPD improves the chemical stability of the NiCrAl alloy foam by protecting the direct electrochemical reaction between the foam and the electrolyte. Thus, the optimized NTO coating can be proposed for excellent protection of NiCrAl alloy foam for hydrocarbon-based steam methane reforming(SMR).

  • We present our observational attempts to precisely measure the central mass of a proto-brown dwarf candidate, L328-IRS, in order to investigate whether L328-IRS is in the substellar mass regime. Observations were made for the central region of L328-IRS with the dust continuum and CO isotopologue line emission at ALMA band 6, discovering the detailed outflow activities and a deconvolved disk structure of a size of ${\sim}87AU{\times}{\sim}37AU$. We investigated the rotational velocities as a function of the disk radius, finding that its motions between 130 AU and 60 AU are partially fitted with a Keplerian orbit by a stellar object of ${\sim}0.30M_{\odot}$, while the motions within 60 AU do not follow any Keplerian orbit at all. This makes it difficult to lead a reliable estimation of the mass of L328-IRS. Nonetheless, our ALMA observations were useful enough to well constrain the inclination angle of the outflow cavity of L328-IRS as ${\sim}66^{\circ}$ degree, enabling us to better determine the mass accretion rate of ${\sim}8.9{\times}10^{-7}M_{\odot}yr-1$.From assumptions that the internal luminosity of L328-IRS is mostly due to this mass accretion process in the disk, or that L328-IRS has mostly accumulated the mass through this constant accretion rate during its outflow activity, its mass was estimated to be ${\sim}0.012-0.023M_{\odot}$, suggesting L328-IRS to be a substellar object. However, we leave our identification of L328-IRS as a proto-brown dwarf to be tentative because of various uncertainties especially regarding the mass accretion rate.
