  • We present a numerical code for the random scattering histories of Lyman alpha photons in the intergalactic medium. The numerical code calculates the radiative transfer under generic three dimensional density, ionization fraction, and peculiar velocity fields based on N-body + radiation transfer simulations of the epoch of reionization. The code is tested with models having analytical solutions, which have idealized geometry and simplified velocity fields. The emergent line profiles can give constraints to the ionization structure around Lyman alpha sources in the early universe.

  • Many multiagents cooperative problems, such as table transport problem, require several emergent behaviors and a proper coordination of these is essential for successful accompishment of the task. We study in this paper the genetic programming method, called fitness switching, to evolve cooperation strategies of robots in these kind of tasks and show simulation results to demonstrate its effectiveness.

  • We investigated the most effective cutting interval for underwater nutrient removal through cut off the emergent part of hydrophytes at artificial vegetation island (AVR) which was installed for the purpose of water quality improvement in Lake Paldang. We divided the planting area of Phragmites japonica into three parts according to the cutting intervals. The shoot height and relative growth rate of P. japonica, nutrient contents and biomass of cut off P. japonica were measured at each cutting interval. The amount of nutrients which were removed through cut off at each cutting interval was calculated. P. japonica showed full growth, 80% and 60% of full growth before first cut off at three-months, two-months and one-month cutting interval condition respectively. Three-month cutting interval condition showed the largest biomass of cut off P. japonica and one-month cutting interval condition showed the least. However the cut off P. japonica showed the highest content of nutrients at one-month cutting interval condition and the least at three-month cutting interval condition. The amount of phosphorus and nitrogen removal at two-month cutting off condition is the largest among three cutting interval conditions indicating that cut off the emergent part of P. japonica every two months is the most effective to remove the nutrients from water at AVR in eutrophic lakes.

  • Though acute pulmonary thromboembolism is usually managed medically with the use of thrombolytics or anticoagulants, an emergent life-saving surgery would be required. In a case of acute pulmonary thromboembolism with acute severe right heart failure and deferment of it could result in fatal outcomes in a short time. In addition, the mortality is raised considerably if it is combined with right heart thrombi. Despite paradoxical thromboembolism via patent foramen ovale was reported, few report might be presented, in which showed the thrombus in right atrium has traversed atrial septal defect into left atrium and left ventricle like this case as the evidence of paradoxical thromboembolism. We report a case of acute pulmonary thromboembolism with acute right heart failure arising from deep vein thrombosis, developed immediately after low anterior resection for colon cancer in a 63-year-old male, who was managed successfully by emergent thromboembolectomy with cardiopulmonary bypass.

  • Constructed wetland was built for industrial factory wastewater treatment with environmentally sound method from July to October, 2000. Ultimately this case study was carried out to conserve water quality of river and underground water and to provide wildlife habitat and rest place for people in the industrial area. The size of constructed wetland was 10m$\times$6m (upper area) with a treatment capacity of 2.5㎥ per day. It was supplied with wastewater 0.625㎥ at intervals of six hours. Vertical flow system was chosen to promote efficiency. Draining layer was built one meter in soil depth out of sand mixed with pebbles in a ratio of two to one. Perennial emergent plants, Phragmites communis, Typha orientalis, Juncus effusus, Iris pseudoacorus, 20 individuals per square meter were planted. In the aspect of reusing, eco-pond was created for increasing biological species diversity and also deck and information signboard were established for the education of environment. As the result of monitoring, it was revealed that the constructed wetland was effective in removal of BOD$_{5}$, COD, T-N, T-P and has being gradually improved as a wildlife habitat(biotope).

  • To decrease the damage of infrastructure from the natural disaster, initial reaction and emergent recovery are important. But up to now emergent recovery has mainly focused on the situation notices owing to the lack of technical support. In this paper, we described a web-based support system for disaster damage recovery of facility and electronic documents for requesting support of recovery resources. Recovery methods are decided using the damage recovery scenarios based on the acquired damage information, and the allocated recovery resources information is delivered to the recovery resources owner using the electronic documents. This system could readily be used for disaster response and emergency recovery.

  • Purpose: Meconium-related ileus is common in preterm infants. Without proper management, it can cause necrotizing enterocolitis and perforation requiring emergent operation. This study was conducted to describe the efficacy and safety of ultrasound-guided Gastrografin enema at bedside for preterm infants with meconium-related ileus. Methods: Between March 2013 and December 2014, this study enrolled preterm infants with birth weight <1,500 g, who were diagnosed with meconium-related ileus requiring ultrasound-guided Gastrografin enema refractory to glycerin or warm saline enemas. Gastrografin was infused until it passed the ileocecal valve with ultrasound guidance at bedside. Results: A total of 13 preterm infants were enrolled. Gestational age and birth weight were 28.6 weeks (range, 23.9-34.3 weeks) and 893 g (range, 610-1,440 g), respectively. Gastrografin enema was performed around postnatal day 8 (range, day 3-11). The success rate was 84.6% (11 of 13 cases). Three of these 11 infants received a second procedure, which was successful. Among 2 unsuccessful cases, one failed to pass meconium while the other required surgery due to perforation. The time required to pass meconium was $2.8{\pm}1.5hours$ (range, 1-6 hours). The time until radiographic improvement was $2.8{\pm}3.4days$ (range, 1-14 days) after the procedure. Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided Gastrografin enema at bedside as a first-line treatment to relieve meconium-related ileus was effective and safe for very low birth weight infants. We could avoid unnecessary emergent operation in preterm infants who have high postoperative morbidity and mortality. This could also avoid transporting small preterm infants to fluoroscopy suite.
