This study investigated the interface temperatures for the sliding friction of three types of pins fabricated with thermocouple wires by the suction casting method. Optical microscopy was used to examine the surrounding material state at the bonding interface with the thermocouple wires. Friction tests were performed under dry sliding conditions against stainless steel 304 at nominal stresses of 1.42-4.25 MPa and sliding speeds of 0.5-1.25 m/s. Tribological data were collected using a custom-made pin-on-disk apparatus that measured the interface temperature and corresponding friction coefficient. Static tests were performed to demonstrate the functionality and reliability of the thermocouple wires-combined temperature sensor (TCTS). Each TCTS showed good linearity and sensitivity and very similar response times for the thermocouple and critical temperature during sliding friction.
Water potential which controls miosture movement in concrete is a kind of stress which causes concrete shrinks or expands. Therefore, there is a straightforward relationship between the water potential and the shrinkage strain. Explicit equations which show the relationships between the two parameters were derived through rational process. Two micro mechanisms among three shrinkage mechanisms were considered in the theory. Thermocouple psychrometer were embedded in a concrete slab to measure the water potential and also to find a correlation with the shrinkage. The test results prove the validity of the theory, and show the way to utilize the delived equations.
The acrylic resin was first introduced as denture base materials in 1937 and it is commonly used for denture base fabrication nowadays. Three different curing cycles (Conventional curing cycle, short curing cycle and long curing cycle) and three commercially available heat-activated acrylic resins (Vertex RS, Lucitone 199 and ProBase Hot) were investigated to find the curing cycle and material that showed the minimum shrinkage of the resin during polymerization process. A brass master mold was fabricated and duplicated by additional silicone impression material. Stone molds were made by pouring of type III dental stone (SILKY-ROCK YELLOW, Whip-Mix, Louisville, Kentucky). It was embedded in the flask. Strain gauge and thermocouple were embedded in the specimen. Strain gauge and thermocouple were connected to signal conditioning amplifier and data was recorded by pre-programmed software. The parameters ESmax (Maximum expansion strain), Sb (Strain measured just before deflasking procedure), Sa (Strain measured just after deflasking procedure) and Sf (Strain measured at the end of the experiment) were measured. ${\Delta}$S was calculated from Sb and Sa (${\Delta}$S=Sb-Sa). In the experiment concerned about materials, the parameters 90-ESmax (Maximum expansion strain measured during early 90 minutes of curing procedure), 180-ESmax (Maximum expansion strain measured from 90 minutes to 180 minutes), Sb, Sa, ${\Delta}$S and Sf were measured and the following conclusions were made. 1. The ESmax value of conventional curing cycle showed the largest value and the 180-ESmax value of Lucitone 199 showed the smallest value. 90-ESmax values showed no significant difference (p<0.05). 2. ${\Delta}$S values of conventional curing cycle showed the positive values. ${\Delta}$S values of short curing cycle and long curing cycle showed the negative values. All three materials cured by conventional curing cycle showed the positive values. 3. The Sf values of long curing cycle and ProBase Hot (cured by conventional curing cycle) showed the smallest values.

As environmental restriction kas continuously become more strict, machining technology has emphasized on development of environment-friendly technology. In cutting technology, it has been well recognized that cutting fluids might have undesirable effects on workers health and working environment. In this study, compressed cold air was used as a replacement for conventional cutting fluids. The cooling effect on cutting tool was analyzed using the finite element method and the computational fluid dynamics. This study focused on the temperature simulation of cutting tool by real flow analysis of cold air. The maximum flow rate and the minimum temperature of compressed cold air are 300ι/min and -30$^{\circ}C$ respectively. To compare the simulation and experimental results, inner temperature of the cutting tool was measured with the thermocouple embedded in the insert. The results show that the analysis of cutting temperature using FEM and CFD is resonable, and the replacement of cutting fluid with cold air is available.
This paper is concerned with the heat flux distribution and energy partition for creep-feed grinding. From measurements of transient grinding temperatures in the workpiece sub-surface using an embedded thermocouple, the overall energy partition to the workpiece was estimated from moving heat source theory for a triangular heat flux distribution as 3.0% for down grinding and 4.5% for up grinding. The higher energy partition for up grinding can be attribute to the need to satisfy thermal compatibility at the grinding zone. The influence of cooling outside the grinding zone can be analytically taken into account by specifying convective heat transfer coefficients on the workpiece surface ha ahead of the heat source (grinding zone) and hb behind the heat source. The smaller energy partition together with slightly lower grinding power favors down grinding over up grinding.
This study focuses on the energy partition and heat flux distribution in creep-feed grinding. From the measurements of transient grinding temperature in the workpiece which the thermocouple was embedded, the overall energy partition to the workpiece was estimated with moving heat source theory using the developed scalene triangle heat model. The energy partition was calculated as 3.75% in down grinding smaller than 5.3% in up grinding. Also, the scalene triangle heat model was confirmed as the most optional heat model in correspond to the experimental data. Then, the heat flux distribution was calculated from temperature responses. The heat flux is negative behind the grinding zone where fluid was applied. In this experimental result, the total heat flow to the workpiece per unit width obtained by integrating the positive heat flux was 0,7W/mm for down grinding.
