  • In this paper, we analyzed on the characteristics of the stranded wire disconnected by repeated stress. The stranded wires that were used in the experiment are PVC insulated flexible cords(VCTFK: Vinyl Insulated Vinyl Cabtyre Cord Flat-type) of $0.75mm^2,\;1.25mm^2,\;and\;2.0mm^2$. They are used to connect the load in low voltage. The stranded wires disconnected by repeated stress were magnified with optical microscope. Using X-ray, the disconnected wire were photo-graphed. we compared mechanical characteristics of the stranded wire between disconnected tendency and allowable current. On the mechanical strength of vinyl cap tire ellipse type cords under bending stress, VCTFK of $1.25mm^2$ was the strongest of them. When it was bent $826.3\pm7$ times, it appeared the disconnected tendency that element wires of VCTFK of $1.25mm^2$ are more about 1.67 times than element wires of VCTFK of $0.75mm^2$. In mechanical strength, VCTFK of $1.25mm^2$ is higher about 1.7 times than VCTFK of $0.75mm^2$. Therefore, we found out that mechanical strength was higher, when the wire had a lot of element wires. In comparison with bending stress, VCTFK of $1.25mm^2$ is the strongest among samples, and it is the most useful in wires of movable type.

  • The high stability of the interference pattern is very important in the case of measuring interference when a phase noise like a vibration occurs in the measuring environment. In this paper, we proposed the method of phase noise filtering by BaTiO$_3$ with the characteristic of SPPCM. Also, a beam with a shape of an ellipse was incident into BaTiO$_3$ by using the tilted lens so as to improve the reflectivity and the response time. And we confirmed the result by optical experiment.

  • We propose a novel method for modeling emotional dimensions using expansion of Russell's (1980) emotional dimensions (Circumplex Model). The Circumplex Model represents emotional words in two axes (Arousal, Valence). However, other researchers have insisted that location of word in Russell's model which is expressed by single point could not represent exact position. Consequently, it is difficult to apply this model in engineering fields (such as Science of Emotion & Sensibility, Human-Computer-Interaction, Ergonomics, etc.). Therefore, we propose a new modeling method which expresses emotional word not as a single point but as a region. We conducted survey to obtain actual data and derived equations using ellipse formula to represent emotional region. Furthermore, we applied ANEW and IAPS which are commonly used in many studies to our emotional model using pattern recognition algorithm. Using our method, we could solve problems with Russell's model and our model is easily applicable to the field of engineering.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for hand gesture recognition. The hand detection method is based on human skin color, and we use the boundary energy information to locate the hand region accurately, then the moment method will be employed to locate the hand palm center. Hand gesture recognition can be separated into 2 step: firstly, the hand posture recognition: we employ the parallel NNs to deal with problem of hand posture recognition, pattern of a hand posture can be extracted by utilize the fitting ellipses method, which separates the detected hand region by 12 ellipses and calculates the white pixels rate in ellipse line. the pattern will be input to the NNs with 12 input nodes, the NNs contains 4 output nodes, each output node out a value within 0~1, the posture is then represented by composed of the 4 output codes. Secondly, the hand gesture tracking and recognition: we employed the Kalman filter to predict the position information of gesture to create the position sequence, distance relationship between positions will be used to confirm the gesture. The simulation have been performed on Windows XP to evaluate the efficiency of the algorithm, for recognizing the hand posture, we used 300 training images to train the recognizing machine and used 200 images to test the machine, the correct number is up to 194. And for testing the hand tracking recognition part, we make 1200 times gesture (each gesture 400 times), the total correct number is 1002 times. These results shows that the proposed gesture recognition algorithm can achieve an endurable job for detecting the hand and its' gesture.

  • This paper derives numerically the buckling Knockdown factors using two different initial imperfection models, such as geometric and loading imperfection models, to investigate the unstiffened composite cylinder with an ellipse pre-buckling deformation pattern. Single Perturbation Load Approach (SPLA) is applied to represent the geometric initial imperfection of a thin-walled composite cylinder; while Single Boundary Perturbation Approach (SBPA) is used to represent the geometric and loading imperfections simultaneously. The buckling Knockdown factor derived using SPLA is higher than NASA's buckling design criteria by approximately 84%, and lower than buckling test result by 9%. The buckling Knockdown factor using SBPA is higher than NASA's buckling design criteria by about 75%, and 14% lower than the buckling test result. Therefore, it is shown that the buckling Knockdown factors derived in this study can provide a lightweight design compared to the previous buckling design criteria while they give reasonably a conservative design compared to the buckling test for both the initial imperfection models.
