  • A new velocity formulation technique, which contains the advantage of UBET and the shape function of FEM, is proposed. In the proposed technique, a shape function is used to improve the unreasonableness of elemental partition and to solve the difficulty of velocity-field determination. In order to verify the effectiveness of this rechnique, T-shaped forging processes are simulated. The results are compared with these obtained by experimental measurements in T-shaped forging. In T-shaped forging, good agreements between theory and experiment are also confined.

  • Silica gel column chromatography on the ether extract from the fruits of Angelica gigas $M_{AKAI}$ gave two kinds of crystalline constituents. The following derivatives of coumarins were identified by IR, NMR spectra, elemental analysis and physico-chemical tests: iso-imperatorin $(mp\;108{\sim}109^{\circ},\;C_{16}H_{14}O_4)$ and decursidin $(mp\;60{\sim}61^{\circ},\;C_{24}H_{26}O_7)$.

  • In this work, nitrogen and oxygen functionalities was introduced to the graphite nanofibers (GNFs) and their effect on electrocatalytic performance of the GNF supports for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) was invesigated. The nitrogen and oxygen groups were introduced through the urea treatments and acid treatment, respectively. And, PtRu catalysts deposited on modified GNFs were prepared by a chemical reduction method. The catalysts were characterized by means of elemental analysis, nitrogen adsorption, and X-ray photoelectron spetroscopy (XPS). The structure and morphological characteristics of the catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). As a result, the Pt-Ru nanoparticles were impregnated on GNFs with good formation in 3-5 nm. And, the cyclic voltammograms for methanol oxidation revealed that the methanol oxidation peak varied depending on changes of surface functional groups. It was thus considered that the PtRu deposition was related to the reduction of PtRu and surface characteristics of the carbon supports. The changes of surface functional groups were related to PtRu reduction, significantly affect the methanol oxidation activity of anode electrocatalysts in DMFCs.

  • In this work, the activated carbons (ACs) with high porosity were synthesized from pitch by KOH chemical activation. The structure and surface properties of ACs were characterized by means of elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). And, the influence of the KOH-to-pitch ratio on the porosity of the ACs was investigated using the nitrogen adsorption isotherms at 77 K and a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As a result, pitch could be successfully converted into ACs with well-developed micro and mesopores. The specific surface areas and pore volumes were increased with an increase of the KOH-to-pitch ratio. Furthermore, it was found that the addition of KOH led to the transformation of the micropores to the meso- and macropores. In the application to electric double layer capacitors (EDLC), the pitch-based ACs showed a higher capacitance per weight and per volume, and an excellent electrochemical stability in the high voltage region.

  • In this study, humic and fulvic acids in soils at the vicinity of domestic atomic power plants(NPPs), located in Yungkwang(YK), Uljin(UJ), Kori(KR), Koseong(KS), Wolseong(WS) area, and in volcanic ash soils of the Cheju island(Mt. Hanla(HL), Manjanggul(MJ)) were isolated, and characterized using chemical(elemental analysis, proton exchange capacity, molecular size distribution) and spectroscopic(UV/Vis., IR, FL, $^{13}$ C NMR spectra) methods. The results were compared with one another and compiled for their DB establishments. The humic substances distribution (humic acid, fulvic acid, Humin) in the soils were also determined by IHSS standard method. Main purpose of this study was to provide a basic data needed to evaluate the effect of humic substances on the migrational behaviour of radioactive elements in contaminated surface soil.

  • Mechanical alloying(MA) process using elemental powders followed by hot pressing has been applied to some intermetallic alloy system containing ferromagnetic elements, such as NiAl and $FeSi_2$. A modified thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) technique was used to investigate the degree of alloying in milled powders and hot consolidated specimens as well as heat-treated bulk specimens. It is shown that the measurement of Curie temperatures in MA intermetallic powders and consolidated specimens containing ferromagnetic components, when determined as a function of milling and heat treatment parameters, can give some insight into the progress and mechanism of alloying.

  • A study on elemental speciation of trace metals in lake water (Lake Biwa in Japan) has been carried out by a size exclusion chromatography (SEC) / inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) system. Before analysis, the water sample was preconcentrated with a ultrafiltration technique, where the large molecules with molecular weight larger than 10,000 were concentrated. Then the preconcentrated water samples (500-1000 fold) were analyzed by a SEC/ICP-MS system. Most trace metals were found at the UV absorption peaks corresponding to the molecular weights of ca. 300,000 and 10,000-50,000, where trace metals were on-line detected by ICP-MS. The results suggest that many of trace metals exist as the large organic molecules-metal complexes in natural water.

By substitution reaction, trimethylsiloxyl-, vinyldimethylsiloxyl-, allyldimethylsiloxyl-, phenyldimethylsiloxyl-, 3,3,3-trifluoropropyldimethylsiloxyl- and tris(trimethylsiloxy)siloxylcellulose were synthesized IR, NMR, and elemental analysis were used for confirming their structures, degree of substitution (D.S.) and the reactivity of siloxylation agent, respectively. The D.S. values were 2.5, 2.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.6, 0.7 for the corresponding siloxylcellulose.

  • In this paper, the ideal standard design and construction of plant factory systems with the Green IT technologies is proposed. For feasibility and problem analysis, a container-type plant factory which was integrated with hardware and software of elemental technologies was operated as a test bed. This operation testing and research will be the foundation of the future construction and operation of large plant factories.
