  • Implementation of openings in beams web has been introduced as an innovative method for improving seismic performance of steel moment frames. In this paper, several steel moment frames have been studied in order to evaluate the effect of openings in beams web. The beam sections with web opening have been modeled as a simplified super-element to be used in designing frames and to determine opening configurations. Finite element models of designed frames were generated and nonlinear static pushover analysis was conducted. The efficient location for openings along the beam length was discovered and the effects of beams with web openings on local and global behavioral characteristics of frames were discussed. Base on the results, seismic performance of steel moment frames was improved by creating openings in beams web, in terms of reduction in stress level of frame sensitive areas such as beam to column connections and panel zones.

  • In these days. the finite element method(FEM) is a very common method for not only a simple vibration analysis but also the optimization of structures. Since the finite element model may contain thousands of degree of freedom, the eigensolutions require extreme computing power, which will result in a serious time-consuming problem. Thus, many researchers have challenged to find more improved modeling techniques and calculating methods to overcome such problems. The Guyan reduction method and the substructure synthesis method are typical examples of such methods. Of the substructure synthesis method, the component mode synthesis method (CMS) is widely used for dynamic analysis of structure. In this study. for the efficient analysis of jet loom structure. Component Mode Synthesis was carried out. The results of the finite element program developed are compared with those of the commercial package program ANSYS for the validation of the program. The results obtained by the program showed a good agreement with those of ANSYS. The program will be further refined and verified by test to yield more accurate results.

  • The study was performed as reduction method using finite and boundary element analysis on structure-borne noise radiated by dash panel of a real car. The radiation efficiency is used to estimate sound noise of dash panel. Curvature and edges of dash panel have effect on radiation efficiency. The simulation results of dash panel was ensured by comparison between experimental results and simulation results of a simple rectangular plate. (omitted)

  • TVs or computer monitors with speakers often have a phenomenon called microphonic which shows fringe-like dark pattern on their screens. The major source of this phenomenon is vibration of the shadow mask inside of the Cathode RAY Tube(CRT) which is caused by the sound generated from the speakers. Reducing phenomenon microphonic by modifying the structure of the shadow mask frame in CRT has been examined in this study. A 15" for computer monitor were chosen. Using finite element analysis for vibration and impact, shape of the shadow mask frame was found to reduce microphonic phenomeon. Improved 15" monitors showed good results.d results.

  • In this article, the multiphysics response of magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) cantilever beam subjected to thermo-mechanical loading is analysed. The equilibrium equations of the system are obtained with the aid of the principle of total potential energy. The constitutive equations of a MEE material accounting the thermal fields are used for analysis. The corresponding finite element (FE) formulation is derived and model of the beam is generated using an eight noded 3D brick element. The 3D FE formulation developed enables the representation of governing equations in all three axes, achieving accurate results. Also, geometric, constitutive and loading assumptions required to dimensionality reduction can be avoided. Numerical evaluation is performed on the basis of the derived formulation and the influence of various mechanical loading profiles and volume fractions on the direct quantities and stresses is evaluated. In addition, an attempt has been made to compare the individual effect of thermal and mechanical loading with the combined effect. It is believed that the numerical results obtained helps in accurate design and development of sensors and actuators.

  • The stone pagoda on the Miruksa temple site has a high value as architectural history, because this stone pagoda is one of the oldest and grandest stone pagodas which remain in Korea today. However, this stone pagoda has remained only six stones of the northeastern part, becased this stone pagoda was collapsed at past. Therefore, it is important to know the original structure and form of this stone pagoda. Hypotheses about collapse cause of this stone pagoda are presented as four cases: collapse by earthquake, collapse by fragility of ground, collapse by durability reduction, and collapse by lightning, On the basis of these four collapse hypotheses in this study, we investigate collapse phenomenon through the structural analysis using discrete element method and evaluate collapse causes of this stone pagoda.

  • Mufflers have been important elements in engineering practice, which reduce various kinds of noises because of its general capability of application. Many kinds of methods :Ire applied to analyze their characteristics and to expect their performances. Some of the methods, conventionally, are based on the plane wave assumption for its simplicity. The shortcoming of this approach is its limitation of analysis ranges and parameters related with analysis and response. This research employs the boundary element method f3r the analysis of mufflers, which considers 3 dimensional scattering effects. This method can be used more appropriately fur tile analysis of mufflers because its analysis ability for higher frequency range which can be decided by the element size of the model. And, experimental analysis using a reciprocity theorem is conducted to verify the analysis results.

  • Process design of multi-step wire drawing process, conducted by means of finite element analysis and ANN(Artificial Neural Network), has been considered. The investigated problem involves the adequate selection of the drawing die angle and the correspondent reduction rate sequence in the condition of desired initial and final diameter. Combinations of the process parameters which are used in finite element simulation are selected by using orthogonal array. Also the orthogonal array and the results of finite element simulation which are related to the process energy are used as train data of ANN. In this study, it is shown that the new technique using ANN is useful method in application to the wide range of metal forming process.

  • In this paper, we investigated the electric field distribution according to the roughness in aramid insulating paper for electric machine. Aramid insulating paper has been used to electric insulating of the traction motor and generators for large capacity. We studied the electric field distribution using boundary element method for Aramid insulating paper. As a result of simulation, the electric field increased according to the surface roughness existence. Electric field decreased due to radius of surface roughness reduction, and Electric field concentration appeared at electrode boundary and rough surface.

  • In the present work a finite element formulation using dynamic-explicit time integration scheme is used for numerical analysis of multi-stage stamping processes. The lumping scheme is employed for the diagonal mass matrix and dynamic explicit formulation Multi-Stage stamping is analyzed by using dynamic-explicit finite element method. Further, the simulated results for the panel stamping processes are shown and discussed. Its application is being increased especially in the stamping industrial area for the cost reduction, weight saving, and improvement of strength.
