New Model Course on Training in Operational Use of ECDIS

  • The revision of SOLAS, Chapter V, which entered into force on 1 July 2002, has firmly established the electronic navigational chart as part of the international maritime safety system. Its possible recognition as a paper chart equivalent confirms the considerable safety benefits provided by the official Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS). Elaborated by the Author IAMU Model Course on operational use of ECDIS aims to provide answers to some of the most commonly asked questions regarding various types of electronic charts (ENC, RNC, DNC) and electronic chart systems (ECDIS, RCDS, ECS). Following the earlier adoption of the International Convention STCW 78/95 and IMO model training courses, e.g. IMO Model Course on ECDIS [2], to assist in the implementation of the Convention and the associated IMO Assembly resolutions, a number of IAMU Member Universities had suggested that IAMU should develop model training courses on higher academic level to assist in achieving a more rapid transfer of information and skills regarding new developments in marine technology. The provision of model courses could help instructors improve the quality of their existing courses and enhance their effectiveness in meeting the requirements of the IAMU. In this paper the Author presents the results of two IAMU research projects sponsored by Nippon Foundation, titled 'IAMU Model Course on Training in Operational Use of ECDIS' and 'IAMU Handbook on ECDIS'.

EMC Compatibility Analysis of CEU EMC test results in the Optical Satellite System (광학위성 카메라전자부 EMC 시험결과의 시스템 양립성 검토)

  • CEU(Camera Electronic Unit) loaded in optical satellite for a high resolution image acquisition is composited with CC(Camera Controlloer), FPA(Focal Plane Assembly) and CEUP(CEU Power supply). EMC test and analysis results are explained in this paper. CE, CS, RE and RS test is performed in the 1st EMC test, RE, RS test which is not complied and influence considerably after shielding structure is performed in the 2nd EMC test. An effect due to the noise of CEU in the GPS/S-band receiving band is analyzed based on 2nd EMC test results. Margin more than 6dB is guaranteed when CEU is shielded.

  • This paper describes a computer-aided die design system of progressive die for making CPT grid. An approach to the development of the automatic design system is based on knowledge-based rules. The developed system is designed by considering several factors, such as grid geometry and punch profile. Grid, a key component of electronic gun, is formed through a sequence of many operations, among which the pilot piercing, beading, notching, bending, swaging and slotting etc. Using the developed system, design parameters are determined and output is generated in graphic forms. Therefore the developed system provides part drawing and the assembly drawing of die set.

  • For system maintenance optimization, it is necessary to establish a state information system by CBM+ including CBM and RCM, and sensor selection for CBM+ application requires system process for function model analysis at the early design stage. The study investigated the contents of CBM and CBM+, analyzed the function analysis tasks and procedures of the system, and thus presented a D-FMEA based sensor selection inference methodology at the early stage of design for CBM+ application, and established it as a D-FMEA based sensor selection inference process. The D-FMEA-based sensor inference methodology and procedure in the early design stage were presented for diesel engine sub assembly.

  • The initial token value required to the optimal performance of discrete event systems can be decided by Sum of Delay Time and Synchronic Time ratio, which are new synchronic variables in Timed Place Petri Nets. For the system consisting of two Live-and-Bounded circuits(LB-circuits) fused in common Transition-Transition-Path or common Place-Place-Path, we prove that the Synchronic Time Ratio is the initial token ratio between two LB-circuits to optimally perform system functions. These results are generalized and formulated as a theorem. The initial tokens of a specific place can imply shared resources. Using the theorem, we can decide the minimum number of the shared resources to obtain the optimal performance, and minimize the idling time of resources. As an example, an automated assembly system is modeled by Timed Place Petri Net, and the initial tokens to achieve the optimal system performance are identified. All the values are verified by simulation.

  • The purposes of this paper are the review and derivation of design characteristics for the new construction of the practical flexible manufacturing system. The basic ideas to analyze the manufacturing system which is the automatically operated are dependant on the various manufacturing procedures in factory. The practical flexible manufacturing systems have various mechanical subsystems appropriated fur the final manufacturing products. Therefore the systems have the various kinds of hardwares as well as softwares. We study the software for the practical flexible manufacturing system designed and developed in the Halla University with the related company. Specially the design concepts and using specifications of all subsystems which are composed of mechanical and electronic movements of the product are analyzed and introduced in this dissertation.

  • A tape feeder of a SMD(Surface Mount Device) mounter is a device that sequentially feeds electronic components on a tape reel to the pick-up system of the mounter. As components are getting much smaller, feeding accuracy of a feeder becomes one of the most important factors for successful component pick-up. Therefore, it is critical to keep the feeding accuracy to a specified level in the assembly and production of tape feeders.   • In this study, we designed an ARM9 compatible RISC microprocessor using VHDL. The microprocessor was designed to support Harvard architecture with separate instruction cache and data cache. The state machine was optimized for multi-cycle instructions. In addition, a data forwarding mechanism was adopted to reduce the stall cycles due to data hazards. Assembly programs were up-loaded into a ROM block for system-level simulation. Proper operation of the designed microprocessor was confirmed by investigating the contents of the internal registers as well as the RAM block. Futhermore, the simulation results clearly indicated that the operation speed of the processor designed in this study is enhanced by reducing the execution cycles required for multiplication related instructions.

  • Real-time image processing algorithms to detect position and orientation of rectangular type electronic components are developed. The position detection algorithm is implemented with the use of projection method which is insensitive to noise. Also dynamic thresholding method of projection is employed in order to distinguish between the boundary of a component and any marking on the component. The orientation is determined by Hough transform of boundary candidates of a component, which is obtained a priori by a simple edge detection method. For real-time processing of both position and orientation for a component which is not aligned well, parallel processing method of image data is proposed and tested in real-time.

  • Recently, polymer insulator and bushing that are used for high voltage application have some advantages such as light weight, small size, vandalism resistance, hydrophobicity and easy making process. The pole mount transformer installed in distribution system is acting direct role in supply of electric power and the electric power device should drive safely for long tenn. In this paper, the polymer bushing of pole transformer is designed adaptively to current assembly method, designed bushing is manufactured on basis of that result. The electric field of designed transformer is investigated by FEM program.
