  • The one of the most important issue in roll-to-roll gravure printing is increase of ink transfer ratio or printability. As the result of high ink transfer ratio or printability, we can assess the quality of the printed patterns. The rheological properties are the important factors for the printability of electrodes patterning. In this study, the rheological properties of conductive ink are controlled by adding the solvent. The inks with different rheological properties are used for the patterning of the electrodes of $100{\mu}m$ by gravure printing equipment. The various printing speed, which also affect the rheological properties of conductive ink, is applied and the printed patterns are compared for their width and aspect ratio. Decreasing in the ink viscosity as well as increasing in the printing speed decreases the printability in gravure patterning, which shows that the rheological properties are important factors for the printability of gravure patterning.

  • In order to increase the transmittance of panel, in process of FFS TFT-LCD, fine patterning process which is adopted to the optimum passivation(PVX) hole was applied fine metal line patterning process and was made with optimum efficiency of liquid crystal by using space/bar size control of pixel electrode. We fabricated 2.03" mobile FFS devices with fine patterning process. Further, this technology will be applied to the basis of other process for higher PPI or higher aperture ratio technology.

  • Laser direct patterning of indium tin oxide(ITO) is one of new methods of direct etching process to replace the conventional photolithography. A diode pumped Q-switched Nd:$YVO_4$ (${\lambda}$= 1,064 nm) laser was used to produce ITO electrode on various transparent oxide semiconductor films such as zinc oxide(ZnO). The laser direct etched ITO patterns on ZnO were compared with those on glass substrate and were considered in terms of the overlapping rate of laser beam. In case of the laser etching on double-layer, it was possible to obtain the higher overlapping rate of laser beam.

  • Self-alignment for the fabrication of printed thin film transistors has become of great interest because of the resolution and registration limits of printing technologies. In this work, self-patterning and selfregistration processes are introduced, which do not need surface energy patterning and the resulting minimum gate channel length could be down to $11.2{\mu}m$ with the sheet resistance of 2.6 ${\Omega}/{\square]$ for the source and drain electrodes.

  • We have studied a printability of synthesized silver nano solon ITO glass substrate. The highly concentrated polymeric dispersant-assisted silver nano sol was prepared by variation of molecular weight and control of initial nucleation and growth of silver nanoparticles, to achive dispersion stability and controlling the size of silver nanoparticles. The synthesized silver nano-sol was tested for printability to explore the possibility of micro-electrodes patterning on ITO glass substrate. The silver micro-electrode with 50${\sim}100{\mu}m$ line width was formed on ITO glass substrate.

  • The ionic-polymer-metal-composite actuators have the best merit for bio-mimetic locomotion because of their large bending performance. Especially, they have the advantage for mimicking a fish-like motion because IPMCs are useful to be actuated in water. So we have developed IPMC actuators with multiple electrodes for realization of biomimetic motion. This actuator is fabricated by combining electroless plating and electroplating techniques capable of patterning precisely and controlling a thickness of Pt electrode layer. The FRF analysis was conducted by a mechanical shaker and direct electrical excitation which is based on sweep sine wave function. From this result, the proper young‘s modulus of Platinum was investigated and applied on expecting the vibration characteristics of patterned IPMC actuator. The calculated maximum displacement of the patterned IPMC was 2.32mm under an applied 4mN/mm. The natural frequency was increased however displacement was decreased in according to increase a thickness of Pt.

  • With the synthesis of graphene sheets as large-scale and high quality, it is essentially important to develop suitable graphene patterning process for future industrial applications. Especially, transfer or patterning method of CVD-grown graphene has been studied. We report simple soft lithographic process to develop easily applicable patterning method of large-scale graphene sheets by using chemically functionalized polymer stamp. Also important applications, the prototype capacitors with graphene electrode and commercial polymer dielectrics for the electrostatic-type touch panel are fabricated using the developed soft lithographic patterning and transfer process.

Generally, the IPMC actuator has been fabricated in electroless plating technique, while it needs very long fabrication time and shows poor repeatability in the actuation performance owing to the variables in chemical fabrication process. Therefore, the novel fabrication methods were investigated by combining electroless plating and electroplating techniques capable of patterning precisely. On the whole, two different methods were compared and analyzed with similar thickness level of Platinum electrodes. Present results show that mixing chemical reduction and electroplating can be a promising candidate for electrode patterning.

  • In this report, high-resolution metal electrode patterning is demonstrated by using selective surface treatment and dip casting for low-cost printed electronic applications. On hydrophobic octadecyltrichlorosilane treated $SiO_2$ surface, deep UV irradiation was performed through a patterned quartz photomask to selectively control the surface energy of the $SiO_2$ layer. The deep UV irradiated region becomes hydrophilic and by dipping into Ag nano-ink, Ag patterns were formed on the surface. Using this patterning technique, line patterns and dot arrays having less than $10{\mu}m$ pitch were fabricated.
