  • The pseudo n-type polyaniline was prepared by doping of camphorsulfonic acid(CSA) and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid(DBSA) as the dopants in solvent of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone(NMP). The dopants in polymer structure was qualitatively analyzed using FT-IR. The influence on electrochemical properties with dopant concentration of PANI film were investigated. The electrochemical characteristics of the n-type PANI electrode that coated on ITO were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry(CV) and AC impedance method. The prepared PANI were confirmed as n-type PANI from FT-IR and CV. The charge transfer resistance of film on PANI/CSA electrode were measured as 1.14{\sim}1.09k{\mu}$by AC impedance. The charge transfer resistance of PANI/DBSA electrode decreased with increasing the mole ratio of DBSA as 27.73{\sim}8.37 k{\mu}$. The double layer capacitance of PANI/CSA electrode was showed almost constant value as $13.47{\sim}14.59 {\mu}F$ and that of PANI/DBSA electrode increased with increasing mole ratio of DBSA from 0.49 to $1.20 {\mu}F$.

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of total electrochemical cell resistance (TECR) on electrochemical impedance (EI) measurements of reinforced concrete (RC) by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) using a three-electrode system. A series of experimental study is performed to measure electrochemical behavior of a steel bar embedded in a concrete cube specimen, with a side length of 200 mm, in various experimental conditions. Main variables include concrete dry conditions, coupling resistance between sensing electrodes and concrete surface, and area of the counter electrode. It is demonstrated that EI values remains stable when the compliant voltage of a measuring device is sufficiently great compared to the potential drop caused by TECR of concrete specimens. It is confirmed that the effect of the coupling resistance of TECR is far more influential than other two factors (concrete dry conditions and area of the counter electrode). The results in this study can be used as a fundamental basis for development of a surface-mount sensor for corrosion monitoring of reinforced concrete structures exposed to wet-and-dry cycles under marine environment.

  • 3 mol% Co-added $Ni(OH)_2$ fine powders, which showed ${\beta}$-phase, as positive electrode materials have been fabricated using $NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O$ aqueous solution by ultrasonic spray-chemical precipitation and subsequent hydrothermal method, and sheet-like Ni nanopowder was fabricated by mechano-chemical reduction method. The addition effects of the sheet-like Ni nanopowder on the electrochemical properties of the positive electrode in Ni-Zn Redox flow battery were investigated. Impedance spectroscopy revealed that the addition of the sheet-like Ni nanopowder resulted in decrease in the electrical resistivity; 10 wt.% addition reduced the electrical properties by a fifth. Cyclic voltammetry showed the addition of the sheet-like Ni nanopowder resulted in decrease in the potential difference of oxidation and reduction; this means the increase in the reversability for electrode reduction. Charge/discharge measurement confirmed that the addition of the sheet-like Ni nanopowder resulted in the increase in the discharge efficiency.

  • EEFL(External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp) for LCD displays are analyzed on electrical and optical characteristics by various electrode length. The electrodes of EEFL are coated at the outside of the glass tube. Brightness and efficiency of the EEFL are affected on lamp impedance characteristic. So, the experimental models are proposed for analysis and measurements of the brightness and efficiency of the lamps according to the electrode length. The sample of LCD backlight unit is used for these experiments, EEFL arrayed BLU of 32' for commercial TV display. The parameters of the experiments were quantised for simple result reading as the length of electrodes as 15, 23 and 30 mm. The inverter was designed and manufactured in the laboratory as the Full-Bridge switching inverter. The feature of the output were measured on voltages about 1000 - 1400V at the currents of 11 - 29 mA and the brightness $15,000\;cd/m^2-40,000\;cd/m^2$. The experiments have shown that the brightness are increased by increasing of the electrode lengths which have the lamp currents increased. But at an certain conditions, the brightness and efficiency were decreased because of unmatched between the inverter output and lamp impedance. The optimum applications of the EEFL BLU of 32' in this experiments have been shown to choose the parameters for driving frequencies of 100 kHz - 150 kHz, the brightness of $18,000-19,000\;cd/m^2$ and efficiencies of 40 - 45 lm/w.

  • Grounding insures a reference potential point for electric devices and also provides a low resistance path for fault currents in the earth. The ground impedance as a function of frequency is necessary for determining its performance since fault currents could contain a wide range of frequencies. In this paper, the ground impedance of Magic rods which are commercially available has been measured in frequency ranging from 0[Hz] up to 100[kHz] and an equivalent circuit model, transfer function model of the ground impedance are identified from the measured values.

  • This study aims at compensation of the skin moisture level using skin impedance and SR factor. SR factor is related with the current diffusion into the skin layer. To efficiently analyze the current diffusion on the skin model, we used an electromagnetic simulation program called Ansys 10.0 Emag. We confirmed that the measured value decreases as the electric current gets more diffused to the layer below the horny layer. In order to conduct actual experiments based on the simulated result, we manufactured special electrodes with 24 pins by arranging 0.8mm-diameter electrodes every 0.5mm, in a $3{\times}8$ array. By simultaneously achieving both impedance value and SR value of skin with the manufactured electrodes, we compared the skin moisture level using the existing equipment to the skin moisture level applied using the skin impedance as well as the SR factor developed in this study. The correlation coefficient between the skin moisture level achieved from the existing equipment and the reference value was 0.615 (p<0.01), whereas the correlation coefficient between the skin moisture achieved from the regression equation in this study was 0.677 (p<0.01). Accordingly, it was confirmed that applying SR factor additionally improves the moisture level more precisely.

  • Negative electrode was prepared by mixing $Ti_{0.7}Zr_{0.3}Cr_{0.3}Mn_{0.3}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.8}$ alloy powder with copper or nickel powder and pressing in the air. The cycled electrodes were analyzed with SEM, potentiostat and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It was found that the Cu-compacted electrode showed better low temperature dischargeability and higher rate capability than Ni-compacted electrode. From SEM analysis of the cycled electrode compacted with copper powder, it was observed that the surface of MH particles was covered with copper grains and whisker precipitated from electrolyte after dissolution during cell test. It is found that the improved electrode characteristics are attributed to the copper layer on MH particles deposited by dissolution and precipitation(DP) process.

  • Photo-capacitor electrodes are attracting great attention because of their high capacitance and potential applications in electronic devices. Carbon capacitor, active carbon capacitor and its combination will be fabricated using simple sandwich capacitor electrode method as carbonaceous material on each type of capacitor electrodes with 20 ${\times}$ 15 mm cell size. Carbon/active carbon cell was fabricated using sol-gel process with 120oC dry temperature in l hour and using sintering process with 500oC in 2 hour. The effect of sintering temperature on carbon properties was also investigated with X-ray diffraction technique to get the best sintering temperature. The detail of fabrication process will be explained. Elemental composition in electrode material can be measured using quantitative spectroscopic as and a cyclic voltammetric technique was used to study the combined effects of electrode material and effect of annealing temperature and also time on the capacitance of thermally treated in capacitor electrode. In this work, characterization impedance technique is used to measurement of capacitance and giving complementary results. Active carbon as carbonaceous material has a better capacitance in charge/discharge process with mean thickness $32{\mu}m$ and with particle size $1{\mu}m$ to $4.5{\mu}m$ in 20 ${\times}$ 15 mm sample size of capacitor electrode.

  • Wearable ECG monitoring is regarded as one of the most essential part in the ubiquitous healthcare environment and subsequently day-life monitoring of a heart condition has been pursued especially for the elder people. However, there are many problems to accomplish this task such as; i) implementation of long-term monitoring device, ii) development of non-irritating electrode on skin and iii) stable signal acquisition. With these aims, we have focused on implementing a non-irritating electrode with an endurable monitoring device for day-life. To accomplish our tasks, we basically developed four different types of textile electrodes that are adapted by both shape and the composed material; flat or convex shape and Ag-conductive paste material or not. It turns out to be that a convex shape and Ag-paste textile electrode has the best performance in terms of both signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and Impedance/Phase characteristics. Furthermore, ECG amplifier (35 ${\times}$ 35 mm) has developed to resolve the ECG signal and transfer the signal to desktop computing device or portable one by RF serial communication.
