  • Light flickering is caused by the degradation of power quality in electric train and can be measured by electronic illuminometer. This paper has shown the relations between voltage variations and illumination of lamps which has two kinds of incandescent lamp and 3-wavelength fluorescent lamp.

  • Energy Storage System(ESS) is installed at feeding line of railway substation. ESS will absorb regenerative energy when train braking and also charge electric energy when feeding line is no load condition. Absorbed and charged energy will be supplied when train is accelerating condition. Due to ESS the energy variation will be minimized and this effect is estimated.

  • AC AT feeding method consists return circuits of electric train inserting in parallel between trolly line and feeding line and connecting neutral line to rail and FPW. Due to increasing electric load at feeding system, collecting voltage of train and end voltage are going down. So to increase voltage between trolly line and rail, the usefulness of new autotransformer are considered which variation of short impedance and change of line voltage is simulated with modified winding ratio of autotransformer from 1:1 to variable tab.

  • In relation to the connection of South-North railway(Kyongui-Line), the operating speed of the train in Kyongui-Line was reviewed. Due to the insufficient maintenance to support on the track of north section of Kyongui-Line, it is very old. The plan that the train run in the north section faster than present time was studied. Finally, the electric power required in the north section was predicted.

  • AC induction motor equipped in electric train is driven by VVVF inverter which produces switching pulse like impuse. Impulse voltage is more dangerous than continuous alternative voltage for the insulating performance of AC induction motor. This paper has investigated PD characteristics caused by impuse voltage for stator coils inserted in AC induction motor.

  • Pentagraphs are used to supply electric power to train via trolley lines. The higher train speed is, the higher voltage and current levels 8u. Since electric power is supplied with slinding contact, localized abrasion is inevitable. It is difficult and dangerous to measure their shape manually. Measurement system of pentagraph slider with ultrasonic processing has been reported. In this paper, measurement system with image processing is proposed. The system consists of CCD cameras, image grabber board, and PC operated on Windows'95. Image processing algorithms are presented and some results are illustrated.

  • Constant load model is widely used for an electric train to perform the static analysis of AT (Auto Transformer) feeding systems. In this model, the train will be considered as a constant load model when it drives or as a constant source model when it applies regenerative brake. However there must be some constraints imposed on the pantagraph voltage in actual operations. These constraints are established for the reason of protecting the feeding facilities from excessive rise of regenerative braking voltage or guaranteeing the minimum traction power of train. In normal operating situation, the pantagraph voltage of the train should be maintained within these limits. Keeping these facts in minds, we suggest new methods or analyzing AT feeding systems using the constant power models with the conditions of voltage constraints. The simulation results from a sample system using the proposed method illustrate both the states of system variables and the supply-demand relation of power among the trains and the systems very clearly, so it is believed that the proposed method yields more accurate results than conventional methods do. The proposed methods are believed to contribute to the assessment of TCR-TSC for compensating reactive powers too.

  • While trains perform a complete precision stopping control at stop point, it is essential to keep better commuters comfort in prompt. Because a train's brake force tends to increase a brake effort in a low speed and a low brake effort, a brake force in motor cars must be increased to keep better passenger comfort, to control the special braking qua1ities and to prevent the impact of the automatic coupler rather than trailer's, Rail cars must have a special braking process for the train stopping control. In the train stop mode, the train stopping control is designed to start at 20km/h. It starts by Dynamic brake blending, and then finally stops by only the friction. If these process are not exactly activated, the train may fail a complete precision stop. In this report, it studied the electric and friction brake processing during the precious stopping control. To achieve exact test results, the speed reference has to be reduced the calculated difference. In the precision stopping control. the ways of the keeping brake force in motor car was analyzed and some solutions of controling air pressure was brought up by means of direct test in main line, This study was based on line 5 in Seoul Metropolitan subway.

  • For constant operation, Electric Railway System has many electrically divided parts of the trolley lines to avoid error spreading. FRP-Section have a role to divide Catenary trolley lines electrically. If one electric train approach to the section at the same time with partial power failure, the pantograph of train can make a short circuit with supplied part to failure part. Electric arc induced with this switching effect, can break FRP-section, and there are such error cases. In this study, we propose one method to prevent FRP-section breakdown from these reason, with detecting sensor at the sectional position.

  • In this paper, to assess and enhance the reliability of Korea High Speed Train, electric traction system is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The electric traction system is classified into subsystems and the functional block diagram and the reliability block diagram are drawn. Expressions to calculate the reliability are deduced and Mean Kilometer Between Service Failure is calculated using the trial test results on the track. Calculated results show reliability growth of the electric traction system.
