Electric railway power rates inspection program and method to decrease peak energy consumption (전철변전소 전력요금 계산 프로그램 및 피크전력 저감방안)

  • KORAIL is one of the biggest consumer in electric power market so it is necessary to investigate power consumption pattern and optimize power rates. This paper presents simulation program for electric power rates define program based on billing system database. Base on the substation annual power usage DB data, the characteristic of the substation power consumption are investigated and effective electrical billing system are compared each other. Through this program it is verified that we can save more then several hundred million won for a year. Also electric train air condition power consumption was measured to figure the method how to reduce peak energy consumption.

  • The high quality power is consisted with uniform frequence, no interruption and uniform voltage. In these components, the voltage of the distribution systems affects making economic distribution facility and improving power quality. This paper describes on the voltage apportion rates of the distribution systems in KEPCO.

  • This paper shows a reasonable design standard of electric equipment capacity for office buildings, that was made by the systematic and statistical way considering actual conditions, such as investigated electric equipment capacity, electric power consumption, etc for 121 buildings. The saving of electric equiment investment, the decrease of power loss, the improvement of facilities utilization and the decreasse of electric power rates can be contributed by the application of the design standard.

  • In this paper, we proposed the reasonable design standard and countermeasures of Demand Factor for large office buildings, that was made by the statistical way considering actual conditions, such as investicated electric equipment capacity, electric power consumption, etc. So as to save electric equipment investment, the decrease of power loss, the improvement of facilities utilization and the decrease of electric rates, we can be contributed by the application of the design standard. The result of saving effect is showed to confirm the practical use of the proposed Demand Factor, and also, it is believed that this proposed Demand Factor will be useful in electric equipment operation and planning.

  • Most transmission lines pass through mountainous terrain and deep valleys, to avoid populated areas. Accordingly, the impact of climate changes, environmental conditions and system expansion have caused an increase in transmission line system fault rates. KEPCO has developed and applied phase-spacers to reduce contact faults between phases. Contact between phases represented 9% of total line faults before the devices were installed. Phase-spacers have reduced faults by up to 3.4% since the phase-spacers were installed in 2005. Also, recently developed devices provide additional economic benefits as they cost about a third of the price as similar devices introduced in foreign countries. Phase-spacers are an effective way to prevent phase contact accidents by maintaining physical space between phases. These spacers will be implemented in areas where contacts are likely to occur. They are expected to reduce accident rates and improve power quality.

  • In this paper, the power system with electric vehicles is analyzed considering the mobility and diffusion rate of electric vehicles in the smart grid environment. In the previous studies, load modeling and load composition rates have been researched and the results are applied to develop a new load model to explain the mobility of electric vehicles which could affect on the power system status such as power flow and stability. The results would be utilized to research and develop power system analysis methods considering movable charging characteristics of electric vehicles including movable discharging characteristics which could be affected by the diffusion progress of electric vehicles.

  • Battery Disconnecting System (BDS) is the important equipment in electric vehicle system. Therefore, most of electric vehicle companies, i.e. Hyundai Motors, Renault Motors, General Motors, want to have the reliability of 15 years - 150, 000 miles. Recently, reliability prediction through Siemens Norm SN 29500 is considered without testing. In this paper, we will introduce the standard and various input parameters. Also the case study will be shown for BDS. Prediction model is constructed by listing all the components of BDS. It calculates the $\pi$ factors for each components using the conversion equation in the standard and converts the reference failure rates to the expected operating failure rates. According to the result, the parts which will be improved are EV-Relays.
