Design and Analysis of the Eddy Current Brake with the Winding Change

  • This paper is a study of the eddy current brake designed to replace the air brake of railway application. The eddy current brake has the advantage of being able to take a high current density compared to the other application because this brake is used for applying brakes to the rolling stock for a shorter amount of time. Also, this braking system has the merit of being able to take a high current density at low speed rather than at high speed, because the heat generated by the low speed operation is less than that of the high speed operation. This paper also presents a method of improving the output torque of the eddy current brake at low speed operation through a change of the winding as well as the basic design.

  • A vehicle stability control logic for 4WD hybrid electric vehicle is proposed using the regenerative braking of the rear motor and electronic brake force distribution module. Performance of the stability control logic is evaluated for J-turn and single lane change. It is found from the simulation results that the regenerative braking at rear motor is able to provide improved stability compared with the vehicle performance without my stability control. Additional improvement can be achieved by applying the regenerative braking plus electronic brake farce distribution control. It is expected that the regenerative braking offers additional improvement of the fuel economy as well as the vehicle stability control.

차량 전자 제동 시스템을 위한 실시간 시뮬레이터 개발 (Development of Real-time Simulator for Vehicle Electric Brake System)

  • This paper develops ABS braking real - time simulator to develop vehicle braking system by simulation. Recently, real-time simulation is widely used in the development of vehicles to decrease development time. In the field of electronic braking, real-time simulation is actively underway. In order to simulate electronic braking model in real time, a vehicle model, a hydraulic model, and a control S/W model are required. These models must be calculated in one platform. Therefore, in this paper, a vehicle model composed of CarSim and a hydraulic model composed of SimulationX using S/W in actual ABS controller was developed as a Simulink model base and linked with Matlab real time model. Using this real-time model, design effects of the electronic braking controller were simulated according to road surface condition to verify its operability.

고속철도차량의 EMB 적용을 위한 3상 IPMSM의 설계 및 제동압부력 제어 (A Design Method of Three-phase IPMSM and Clamping Force Control of EMB for High-speed Train)

  • 본 논문은 고속철도차량에 전기기계제동장치(EMB : Electric Mechanical Brake)를 적용하기 위한 주요 구성품인 3상 매입형영구자석동기전동기(IPMSM : Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor)의 설계방법과 이를 이용한 인버터 제어시스템의 압부력제어 시뮬레이션 방법을 제안한다. 최근 자동차에서 주로 사용하는 유압식 제동장치는 유압을 발생시키기 위해 필요한 오일류와 유압 라인의 관리, 유지보수성 및 유압펌프의 동작으로 인한 효율성 등이 문제로 제기되면서 EMB에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있으나 비용증가 및 안전측면의 보완이 지속적으로 요구되고 있다. 공압식 제동장치를 주로 사용하는 철도차량은 EMB 시스템을 적용할 경우 차량 하부에 큰 공간을 차지하는 공기압축기, 제동공기통 및 연결 배관 등의 부품이 필요하지 않으므로 50% 이상의 소형화가 가능하며 인버터를 적용한 전동기 구동방식으로 인하여 상대적으로 빠른 응답속도와 정밀제어를 통해 공주거리를 단축시킬 수 있는 장점을 갖는다. 또한, 철도차량은 다수의 제동장치가 제동력을 분담하는 구조로 설계되어 자동차와 비교하여 EMB 적용이 안전측면에서 유리하다. 본 논문에서는 JMAG을 활용하여 고속철도의 제동 캘리퍼와 제동력 출력에 적합한 모터설계 및 전자계해석을 수행하였다. 제동 압부력 제어 시뮬레이션을 위해 기계구동부는 기존 EMB 시스템에 주로 적용된 볼스크류 형태의 동작방식과는 달리 고속철도차량에 적용된 편심축 회전을 이용한 구동방식으로 모델링하였다. IPMSM 제어를 통한 제동압부력 및 제동력 출력결과는 Matlab/Simulink를 활용하여 JMAG의 IPMSM 모델과 co-simulation을 통해 보였으며 결과의 타당성은 차세대고속철도(HEMU-430X)의 제동사양과의 비교를 통해 검증하였다.

ER브레이크 작동기를 이용한 능동 장력 제어 (Active Tension Control Using an ER Brake Actuator)

  • This paper presents a proof-of-concept investigation on an active tension control using an ER (electro-rheological) brake actuator. Firstly, an ERF (electro-rheological fluid) which has an inherent reversible feature from Newtonian fluid to Bingham fluid upon applying an electric field is composed, and its property is tested to obtain intrinsic parameters of the Bingham model. An appropriate size of the ER brake is manufactured on the basis of the Bingham model, and dynamic characteristics of the brake are experimentally identified. After formulating a governing equation of motion of the tension control system, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve a certain desired level of tension. Both simulation and experimental works are undertaken in order to demonstrate the efficiency and feasibility of the proposed active tension control method.

  • This study evaluates the strength of surface treatment parts using the hard anodizing method to the aluminum alloy brake disks. In order to achieve weight reduction of vehicles, Eco-friendly cars parts of the high-quality and competitive price is to equip. Especially while pursuing parts of weight reduction, it has to maintain the strength of the surface of the brake by nature. To enhance surface strength of aluminum alloy, we use hard anodizing technology in the surface treatment. This study is resulted of 3 times greater the hardness value of the hard anodized specimen than the aluminum alloy specimen for the lightweight parts of EV brake disk

회생제동 전자제어 유압모듈을 이용한 하이브리드 차량의 에너지 회수 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Energy Regeneration Algorithm using Electro-Hydraulic Braking Module for Hybrid Electric Vehicles)

  • In this paper, an energy regeneration algorithm is proposed to make the maximum use of the regenerative braking energy for a parallel hybrid electric vehicle(HEV) equipped with a continuous variable transmission(CVT). The regenerative algorithm is developed by considering the battery state of charge(SOC), vehicle velocity and motor capacity. The hydraulic module consists of a reducing valve and a power unit to supply the front wheel brake pressure according to the control algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) is performed. In the HILS system, the brake system consists of four wheel brakes and the hydraulic module. Dynamic characteristics of the HEV are simulated using an HEV simulator. In the HEV simulator, each element of the HEV powertrain such as internal combustion engine, motor, battery and CVT is modelled using MATLAB/$Simulink^{(R)}$. In the HILS, a driver operates the brake pedal with his or her foot while the vehicle speed is displayed on the monitor in real time. It is found from the HILS that the regenerative braking algorithm and the hydraulic module suggested in this paper provide a satisfactory braking performance in tracking the driving schedule and maintaining the battery state of charge.

실차 비교 및 검증을 통한 복합재 브레이크의 개발 효용성 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Analysis of Development Effectiveness of Composite Brake through Real Car Comparison and Verification)

  • Composite material is recently very important material for eco-friendly vehicles because of its excellent mechanical property and lightweight effect. So, many research results have been recently published for developing the composite material to apply vehicles. In this paper, new brake system is presented using composite material to response this situation. And advantages in terms of performance compared to competitive company will be discussed in depth to verify superiorities of the new composite brake. To do so, composite brake systems which have the same size as the competitive company to the same vehicle is applied. And superiorities through a variety of test results are presented. First, normal braking performances are compared with competitive company through braking effect, heat capacity and friction test, Second, circuit driving and high speed fade test are also verified with competitive company to confirm harsh braking performances for the new composite brake system. Finally, the effects of applying the composite brake to automobile industry like electric car are analyzed.

  • In DC electric railway systems, the feeding currrnt is not permitted to flow backward in almost all the substations and the pantograph voltages at the regenerating cars rise extremely by the voltage drop of the resistance of the feeder line. In order to prevent the overrise of the pantograph voltage in power regenerating cars, the squeezing circuits for the regenerative current are equipped and this leads to double losses, which are an extra worn-out of the brake-shoes and an ineffective use of regenerative power. In this study, the insertion of resistors in the feeder line system is proposed as a possible method for the effective utilization of the regenerative power in the electric railways. Also it is investigated how the output voltages of substations affect the effective use of regenertive capability. The investigation results show that the energy savings and the reduction of the worn-out of the brake-shoe can be achieved at the same time by the insertion of resistors in the feeder line system.

  • Caliper intergrated Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is an automatic parking brake system, attached to rear caliper. Because EPB uses luxury vehicles recently, the drivers of vehicles are sensitive to the EPB noise. EPB is operated by the motor and gear, so noise is generated by motor and gear. In order to reduce noise, One of EPB manufacturers uses helical gear and changes the shape of EPB housing. But these methods are not optimized for reduction of interior noise. There are many noise transfer paths into vehicle interior and it is difficult to identify the noise sources. Therefore, in this study, we performed contribution analysis and modal testing in the vehicle system. It is possible to distinguish between air-borne noise and structure-borne noise in the vehicle interior noise by comparing interior noise peak with resonance mode map.
