  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the oral health of the elderly people receiving nursing care and home care services in Chungnam. Methods: The subjects were 350 elderly people receiving 21 nursing care and home care services in Chungnam. The direct interview with the elderly people and oral examination was carried out from July, 2012 to December, 2013 after explanation fo the purpose of the study. The subjects consisted of 178 elderly people receiving nursing care services and 172 elderly people receiving home care services. Except incomplete answers, 315 data were analyzed. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, characteristics by facility, oral condition, oral care behavior, correlation by factors on oral health, influencing factor on dental caries, influencing factor on periodontal disease, and influencing factor on elasticity of gingival muscle. Data were analyzed by frequency analysis, chi-square test, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 21.0 program. Results: Multivariate analysis of influencing factors on oral health revealed that the elderly people with low education level tended to have higher incidence rate of dental caries. The influencing factors on oral health were the elasticity of gingival muscle, periodontal disease, educational level, and economic level. (p<0.05). The explanation power was 26.2%. Conclusions: Oral Health Promotion should be obligatorily established as one of the medical system and medical fee system to promote oral health condition for the aged.

  • As the number of aged people increase, hospitals specializing in elderly cares have also increased very rapidly. Therefore it is necessary to improve the quality of these hospitals for the elderly people in order to enhance the function of these hospitals not only for conventional treatment but also for recovery and convalescence. To study such trend and needs, this study researched on planning for Elderly Hospital's Atrium that provides a space for the elderly people so that they may enjoy the natural environment while being supported from diverse aspects for long term cares and sustained living, and tried to find out design solutions based on users' demand through questionnaire survey and interviews both with the management of the elderly hospital and the inpatients or the users. As a result of this study, it was revealed that each user showed his or her own respective characteristics concerning his or her expectation about the environment of their using spaces, and according to this result the strategic direction and design plan could be drawn. Based on plans for this Elderly Hospital's Atrium specializing in cares for the elderly people, useful information will be provided for caring, treatment and recovering environment of the elderly hospitals in future considering not only the conventional medical and technical services but also the inpatients' or the users' physical, psychological and social factors.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was investigate the empowerment, health behavior and life satisfaction in elderly home residents according to living situations. Method: Data were collected from September to October, 2005. The participants were 240 elderly people who lived at home. Date were collected using structured questionnaire and analysed using t-test, ANOVA, Sheffe test. Result: Empowerment in elderly home residents according to living situations was significantly different(F=3.35, p=.006). Health behavior in elderly home residents according to living situations was not different significantly(F=.88, p=.492). However, questionnaire of "only the elderly couple lives" showed the highest health behavior score as an average 3.05$({\pm}.24)$. Life satisfaction in elderly home residents according to living situations was not different significantly(F=1.67, p=.143). There was a positive correlation between empowerment, health behaviors and life satisfaction. Conclusion: Considering that the single home which only the elderly people reside is the one of general family patterns of the aged people, the elderly people shall acknowledge the difference of values between a family pattern which takes a serious view of family or sons/daughters and a family pattern which reflects a weak supporting consciousness by a nuclear family. Based on above facts, Nurses should develope the nursing strategies to promote life satisfaction in the elderly.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cognitive based programs on cognitive functions in elderly people. Methods. The participants included a group of 9 elderly people in Changwon, from the period of May 2016 to July 2016. The test tools used were MMES-K. SADL. and GDS. The statistics used was the 20.0 version. Results. According to the results of this study, the MMSE, GDS mean scores improved after implentation of the program, but no significant improvement was shown with SADL. The MMSE of the correlation coefficient was 0.785, and the GDS of the correlation coefficient was 0.916. Both of these scores were significant in their correlation. Conclusion. In conclusion, cognitive based programs were effective among mildly cognitive-impaired elderly people, and that suitable programs must be developed on a case by case basis.

  • In this research, three topics were studied for the elderly. The first was the elderly's error characteristics for tracing task and the second was for depth perception. The characteristics were compared with the young's. Twenty two old people and twenty two young people participated in the tracing experiment, respectively. In the depth perception experiment, twenty three old people and twenty two young people participated. A depth perception apparatus and a tracing one were used in the experiment. In the depth perception error, a significant difference was not detected on gender. However significant differences were detected with age and viewing distance. In the tracing error, significant difference was detected with age, also. The third experiment was push-button operation and fifteen old people participated in the experiment. As the result, operation time error was increased with the button size and the moving distance. The result of this study will be able to be considered in its user interface design to reduce the elderly's error while using a product.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the difference in gait patterns when elderly and young people walk by analyzing COP, Gait Line, Foot pressure pattern, and ensuring the original biomechanics technology of developing high performance footwear for the elderly. The subjects who took part in the test consist of 20 elderly people and 20 young people. The physical features of the elderly people that were recruited for the study are as below: 20 healthy male subjects(elderly people) with an average age of 75.43 yrs(S.D 6.46 yrs), weight of 68.10 kg(S.D 0.94 kg) and a height of 168.65 cm(S.D 1.47 cm). Foot pressure pattern data was collected using a EMED-AT system(Novel Gmbh, Germany) operating at the 50 Hz during walking. The results are as follow : COP route of the elderly leans to lateral compared to the young, and Gait Line from heel to toe is not clear and laterally curved. At the same time, a contact are aonthe midfoot is high compared to the young, and maximum force of the forefoot is low. As a result of analysis, in order to develop high performance footwear for the elderly, it is necessary to develop lasts and soles reflecting the elderly's gait patterns.

In the case of above three times in brushing tooth a day, 29 percent people are less their oral health is good. As the number of times of brushing tooth decreases, the percent feeling their oral status good decrease(p<.05). 2. The respondents who have visited the dentist within one year are less than people with no visit. Also the percent having a mind that their oral health status is good is higher in the respondents having scaling than them without scaling(p<.05). The respondents who answer that their diet is not bad is most in the ratio of people feeling subjective oral health status good(p<.001). 3. The portion of people feeling their oral status not healthy is highest in the respondents without tooth(p<.05). 4. Among the respondents answering their subjective oral health is not good, the some problem of conversation due to no tooth or denture and relation with others is issued each(p<.001). This study suggests that perceived toothbrusing frequency and periodic scaling with oral health among the elderly. The finding of this study will helpful to policy makers to design plants to increase the oral health related quality of life among the elderly.

To keep a good lift quality of the elderly, both appropriate exercise and nutrients intake are necessary for them. Dairy products are known for the good source of variable nutrients including functional components and bioactive peptides such as Ig, lactoferrin, MFGM, OPP, CPP, GMP, sialic acid etc that are required especially for elderly people. However, they are classified as the low dairy products consumption group recently. For the promotion of dairy product consumption of elderly people, variable and specialized dairy products for the elderly should be researched and developed with the strengthened publicity activities.
