We have studied electro-optic characteristics as a function of splay elastic constants ($K_{11}$) in the fringe-field switching (FFS) mode using the LC with positive dielectric anisotropy. When $K_{11}$ is increased from 7.7pN to 11.7pN, a maximum transmittance is slightly increased and rising time become a little bit fast. However, operating voltage and threshold voltage is independent. In opposition to rising time, decay time is not affected by $K_{11}$. We already know that $K_{11}$ affects tilt angle of liquid crystals. Therefore, on the occasion of high $K_{11}$, liquid crystals are mainly affected by twist deformation because the higher $K_{11}$, the less tilt angle. In the FFS device, high $K_{11}$ is favorable to reduce tilt angle in on state and thus improve rising response time.
The receding contact problem for two elastic layers whose elastic constants and heights are different supported by two elastic quarter planes is considered. The lower layer is supported by two elastic quarter planes and the upper elastic layer is subjected to symmetrical distributed load whose heights are 2a on its top surface. It is assumed that the contact between all surfaces is frictionless and the effect of gravity force is neglected. The problem is formulated and solved by using Theory of Elasticity and Integral Transform Technique. The problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations in which contact pressures are the unknown functions by using integral transform technique and boundary conditions of the problem. Stresses and displacements are expressed depending on the contact pressures using Fourier and Mellin formula technique. The singular integral equation is solved numerically by using Gauss-Jacobi integration formulation. Numerical results are obtained for various dimensionless quantities for the contact pressures and the contact areas are presented in graphics and tables.

The main purpose of this paper is to apply differential transformation method to vibration analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beam with open cracks on elastic foundation. The governing equation of motion of beam with open cracks on elastic foundation is derived. The concept of differential transformation is briefly introduced. The cracks are modeled by massless substitute spring. The effects of the crack location, size and the foundation constants, on the natural frequencies of the beam, are investigated.

The variations of the uniaxial compressive strength, the strains and the elastic constants with respect to the angle of anisotropy are analyzed in order to investigate the characteristics of a transversely isotropic rock experimentally. Total 35 specimens of 7 different angles from a large block of rhyolite presenting the flow structure obviously are used in tests. This study is composed of two reports; the elastic constants are mainly analyzed for the every individual angle in the report No. 1 and they will be discussed synthetically in the report No. 2. From the specimens of 0 and 90 degree, 4 independent elastic constants which can directly be obtained without the help of any other suggested equations, may be referred to the true values. Data variation in the strain measurements differs on the angle is analyzed. That of small angle specimens tends higher than that of large angle specimens. The relation of apparent Young’s modulus and angle is found to be M- or U-shaped. For small angle specimens, Saint-Venant approximation cannot be applied successfully on account of showing the non-monotonous increase, and E1 is analyzed out of the true value range. In the specimen of $\phi$ = 75, the deviation of strain measurement and strength are smallest and 4 all constants are analyzed in the true value range. Therefore, specimen of the angle of around 75 may become preferable if only one specimen should be used in test of a transversely isotropic rock.
The dynamic behavior of a moving elastic body system with three constant velocitics on a simple beam with an axial load is analyzed by numerical method. A moving elastic body system is composed of an elastic body and a suspension unit with two unsprung masses. The governing equations are derived with an aid of Lagrange's equation. These equation are solved by Runge-Kutta method. The damping coefficients a spring constants of the suspension unit the force circular frequency on a moving elastic body the velocity of a moving elastic body system. These effects are more important in the high modes of a simple beam.
The amounts of salt diffused into radish after immersing in various concentrations of salt solution at different temperatures were measured and the changes of radish texture by the salt diffusion were estimatedwith the viscoelastic constants of a 3 element solid model determined by a stress relaxation test. While the amount of salt diffused throught radish was increased with increasing the salt concentration and soaking temperature, the istantaneous stress, equilibrium elastic solid and viscoelastic constants of radish were decreased. Also the degree of stress relaxation and equilibrium elastic solid approached the same or zero values, as salt concentration was further increased. Viscoelstic constants as well as salt diffusion were more influenced by lower salt concentration with increased temperatures.
The elastic constants, C', of $Th_{3}P_4$-type structure compounds, $La_{3}S_4\;and\;Ce_{3}S_4$, have been analyzed on the basis of band Jahn-Teller mechanism. The distinct difference between two compounds lies in the fact that $Ce^{3+}$ ion has a f electron which produces magnetism. It is shown that the band Jahn-Teller effect is sensitively influenced by the energy splitting of f electronic bands by a cubic crystal field in $Ce_{3}S_4$, and f electrons suppress the elastic softening effect. The energy splitting value obtained from the calculation of elastic constants is found to agree well with the experimental value obtained from the magnetic susceptibility measurement.

The dynamic elastic properties of metal matrix composites were investigated by resonant ultrasound spectroscopy(RUS). The composites used in this study consisted of 2124 aluminum alloy reinforced with different concentrations of SiC particles. RUS can determine the nine independent elastic stiffness($C_{ij}$) for the orthorhombic symmetry on a small specimen simultaneously. The elastic constants were determined as a function of the volume fraction. A concept of effective aspect ratio. which combine the aspect ratio and the orientation of reinforcement. was used to calculate the initial moduli from Mori-Tanaka theory for the input of RUS minimization code. Young's moduli can be obtained from the measured stiffnesses. The results show that the elastic stiffness increases with increment of the particle content. The behavior of elastic stiffness indicates that the particle redistribution induced by the extrusion process enlarges the transversely isotropic symmetry as the fraction of reinforced particles increase. This relationship could be used for determination of the volume fractions of reinforcement as a potential tool of nondestructive material characterization.
The present study deals with the numerical analysis of the symmetric contact problem of two bonded layers resting on an elastic half plane compressed with a rigid punch. In this context, Finite Element Method (FEM) based software called ANSYS and ABAQUS are used. It is assumed that the elastic layers have different elastic constants and heights and the external load is applied to the upper elastic layer by means of a rigid stamp. The problem is solved under the assumptions that the contact between two elastic layers, and between the rigid stamp are frictionless, the effect of gravity force is neglected. To validate the constructed model and obtained results a comparison is performed with the analytical results in literature. The numerical results for normal stresses and shear stresses are obtained for various parameters of load, material and geometry and are tabulated and illustrated.
